my 8-year-old loved it - everything she wanted to know!
I was really impressed with this book - great conversational tone, with excellent, accurate drawings (to the reviewer who was appalled by the lack of a clitoris in the drawing -- it's there, just without any attention called to it, which seems OK for this age). My daughter could not wait to read it with me for the couple of bedtimes it took us. It was perfect for what she wants to know and what's going on with her at 8 1/2. I wish I had been more prepared for puberty and known more about body as a young girl, been more prepared for getting my period, etc. -- and this book helps me achieve that for my daughter. To those who commented that this book was too graphic, etc. for this age... it's bodies. There's nothing "graphic" about your own body. It just is. If this is your child's first introduction to her own body, then sure, it could seem like a lot -- but she's got to learn, and wouldn't you rather she learn with you by her side? This is a great, non-opinionated, fact-based book. Doesn't get much better! Now, if I could just get her younger brother to have any interest at all in the boy version for his age... ;-)

Perfect, great for Christians!!!
Perfect starter to learning about the body. Just enough info to teach girls about their changing bodies but not so much that they cannot grasp it. I also LOVE that this doesnt really dive into the monthly periods as it allows one core subject to be discussed at a time... in this book it is literally the basics of starting to develop breasts, hair and so forth. I appreciate properly detailed illustrations that are 'clean' And without super graphic images. Images are simple but anatomically correct. Really thankful for the author and publishing company who took care to make this book. Oh... And there is NO discussion about needing sperm/egg to make a baby. I wanted it this way. Seriously, one topic at a time works best for kids. Even the super smart kids need the ability to learn about their bodies in smaller segments. I cannot say enough about this book. I'm SO happy about it. Also, fyi, it's clean for Christians as well. If you desire a Christian based anatomy type book... this is the one for you! It lacks biblical teachings BUT doesn't bring up 'same sex', gender issues and so forth. Its just a clean, simple and sweet way to talk about the body of a growing girl.

Good for younger kids
This book is pretty basic but it was just right for my 8 year old daughter. It covers breast buds, pubic hair, body odor, etc and has drawings that show and label the body parts. Some of the other books I looked at were way more in depth and too verbose for a young kid. This answered my daughter's questions without giving her too much information to overwhelm her. It does not go into periods but the next book covers that. It also does not address sex, which was fine for me because I really just wanted a puberty book.

Period cliffhanger spoils the stages of learning
I like these books to help me explain puberty to my daughter. My changing body is good, but in the end it briefly states they will have menstrual periods soon/later, but then says we will talk about that later. Problem is the kids won’t accept that and want to know now! Either leave it out or tell them the whole thing in this book. My daughter is only nine (and a young nine at that) and not ready to learn about periods. I want to teach her incrementally and wish they’d left this last page out. I feel like I can’t use this book yet because of that but I want her to know all the other parts leading up to but not including periods! Ugh!!

Perfect book for having "the talk"
Last night my 9 year old read this to her 7 y.o. sister (and me :)) and it was perfect! They had started talking and joking about puberty over the past several months and I couldn't wait for them to actually read about it themselves. It has great child-friendly (but proper anatomy) language and very clear illustrations. Of course they giggled but read it with excitement and interest. I'm so glad I didn't wait a day longer to introduce them to these topics in a more thorough and child-friendly way than our conversations have been until now.

Perfect for accurate and age-appropriate discussions
I bought this book for my 8 year old daughter, and it's absolutely perfect for what I was looking for. It explains the beginning stages of puberty through a cute story line, with three girls (not all white, which I appreciate!) and their interaction with a family friend who is a doctor. It's scientifically accurate without going into too much detail, and doesn't introduce sex or intimacy, which is something my daughter isn't quite ready for, yet. I definitely recommend it for parents/guardians wanting to start paving the way for these important conversations.

Helpful puberty illustrations for early education
My daughter just turned age 8, and I wanted to get a book to teach her about early puberty. I think the best part about this book is the illustrations, and the basic information about the upcoming changes to a young girl's body. The thing I didn't like is it was presented as Dr. M. talking to three girls and the girls were saying things like, "Okay, now I am very uncomfortable!" My daughter is not uncomfortable or embarrassed about her body now but I think these kinds of unnecessary comments in the book will plant that seed. We are a body positive household and talk openly about all body parts on a regular basis. I wish the author would replace those comments with the girls saying things like, "Wow, my body is amazing!"I also thought it was weird that the book started out with two girls playing video games, and then picking up their other friend from the skate park. In our lives, these are not the generic activities that my daughter or her friends would be doing in their free time. I actually associate both of those activities much more with boys. I will be adding another puberty education book to our personal library to help with the conversation.
