This book is too superficial to be useful for studying for any of the board exams -- writtens, orals, or MOCA. It has only basic coverage of topics with information that i would consider at the level of a mid-year CA-1 anesthesia resident. Furthermore, some of the information provided is just plain incorrect. The chapter on regional is particularly poor, with very little clinical information provided about individual block coverage, risks, or anatomical approaches. I had high hopes because i remember the first aid series being helpful for the USMLE exams, but this falls very short.

This is a decent book with format of first aid books I used to past the steps. It does not cover everything needed for the board. I use the margin to write in my own notes. It will be useful when you try to cram for ITEs in one weekend.

If you're going into Anesthesia as a Sub-I or CA-1 I'd recommend it. I'm not sure how correct EVERYTHING is because I've used it for my Sub-I rotation, but it does help you look like a stud during downtime in the OR.Like the book, like the FA series. Glad I bought it.

I picked up this book a month prior to my ITE and found that the book was a waste of money. It does not belong in the same league as the other books in the First Aid series, which in my opinion, are a must read for the USMLE steps. This book covers topics in a very superficial manner, nowhere as high-yield as other books that have been included in the First Aid series. If I could do this again, I would spend my money on something else.

It is a good book for CA2 & CA3, but it is not for CA1, you should read a text book before you start reading this book.

Not only does it give a cursory overview of complication topics, but the information in many sections is just flat out wrong. A combination of typos, outdated information, and just factually incorrect information make giving it 1/5 stars a no-brainer.
