I’m really happy with this TP-Link Wi-Fi extender. I had a weak Wi-Fi signal in part of my home, and setting this up made a noticeable difference. Once I figured out where to place it, the connection was much stronger and more reliable. The setup was pretty straightforward, and I especially liked that I could connect to the extended network without having to run any wires through the house. My devices are staying connected much better in the areas where I was previously struggling with the signal. For the price, I think it’s a great solution if you have a dead spot or weak Wi-Fi area in your home. It did exactly what I needed it to do, and I would definitely recommend it.

I bought this TP-Link WiFi extender over a year ago, to provide a strong signal for devices in my home office as well as some outdoor wifi cameras that were having trouble locking onto the main router's wifi signal. Thus far, it has worked reliably; it is a set-it-and-forget-it type of device that, once you have configured it, just works, 24x7. For the price, it's very good and seems to extend quite far into the yard even through a wall (30-40 feet). You have to name the extender something different from your primary wifi network. For example, if your network is named "living-room", you would name the extender network something different such as "bedroom". Since it provides both 2.4 Gh and 5 Gh bands, you typically will have "bedroom" and "bedroom-5g". Once it is set up, the extender connects to "living-room" (to use the above example) and amplifies the signal locally. Thus, while you are in the bedroom, you should enjoy a good strong wifi signal. If you happen to turn off the living room router, of course, you will also lose the bedroom signal. For the price, this extender is a no-brainer. The next step up would be a mesh system, which is much more expensive but provides you with an even better approach which is the same name all through the building. Instead of having to log into several wifi networks on all your devices, now you would just have one (e.g., "livingroom") and it automatically handles the extender feature without forcing you to go through all this extra name rigamarole. Meshes are definitely next level. But for the tiny cost of the basic TP-Link extender, which honestly is cheaper these days than a large 3-topping pizza, you can get by very well. After over a year, my extender is still going strong, as are the two other TP-Links I have around the house. The only issue I've had is that once in a while, typically after a power outage, the extender may require a reboot, for some reason. Inside is a tiny computer (probably) running some flavor of Linux and in the event of a glitch, sometimes it does not properly shut down and thus needs to cleanly recycle. Unplug it, wait 30 seconds, then plug back in, the LED indicator lights will gradually turn back on, and it should be up and running again. You have to make sure your wifi router is already up and running, of course, or it won't have anything to connect to. If this doesn't work, press the reset button for 20 seconds, connect a phone or tablet to the TP-Link hotspot and go through the setup process. I have had to do this once or twice and everything worked perfectly once complete. All in all, it is a highly recommended device that will make it easier to browse the web in anything larger than a one room apartment.

This little guy has kept me from trashing my new, current WiFi setup, at least for now. Gigabit internet finally reached my area and I felt the need to upgrade to that, along with replacing my very aging WiFi mesh system to go along with the new service modem. I have a few devices that really shine with a dedicated 5G network so I was looking forward to moving away from my forced combined 5G/2.4G mesh setup and over to dedicated 2.4 and 5G bands. I purchased an Archer GE800 router and trashed the old system. Since I switched in May 2025 I have introduced a new level of suffering to my wife and kids trying to get this new setup to work in our two story, 2700 square foot home. Dead spots were everywhere and unless you were in the living room with the router (where speeds were incredible) each step farther away degraded connectivity quickly. It was super frustrating and I was looking at returning/eating the cost of the new setup and just going back to my old mesh system. As a last ditch effort I purchased this TP-Link WiFi extender to see if it would help. Initially the results were very mixed but after some trial and error it has helped. Here are some of the things I found: - The distance from your main router is a bit of a game. Too far and it won’t connect. Too close and I experienced some really frustrating switching between the extender and the main router on many devices, sometimes leading to them just simply not connecting to either. In the end, I found my farthest boundary where it didn’t connect and then just moved the extender closer and closer until I got full connection. It was a big improvement. - I was under the impression that I would be able to choose this WiFI extender connection out of my WiFi list. That does not appear to be the case and devices connect to it automatically. This made setup easy, but some devices tend to rotate between the main router and the extender networks which, at least until I found my ideal placement, meant some devices had varying connection results throughout the day. - The integration with the TP-Link app is fantastic and was critical in diagnosing my issues. Bravo there because having to guess which devices are connected where without it would be terrible. - In the end, the thing that ultimately made me stick with my current setup was the ability to connect one device to the Extender via Ethernet. This solved a major lingering issue for me in the home office. That connection is solid. I’m still on the fence about sticking with my current WiFi setup vs going back to mesh but for now the home angst has subsided and I’ll let this ride for awhile. 4/5 stars for now. Which I think is actually pretty amazing for a cheap extender device that is holding a many hundreds of dollars system in place.

So the easiest possible way to get this up and running properly is going to be as follows. Follow step one of the manual - You want to initialize the connection to your router to the closest outlet you have. Don't worry this is just to simply signal transmission. Once you plug it in leave it be until its solid green. In the meantime it might be a good idea to make sure that Mesh is enabled on your router to keep this brief. Now once its glowing green you are going to want to skip to the arrow pointed in the last image I uploaded of the manual; connecting through WPS. This is going to be the fastest way to confirm the two devices want to communicate. First press the wps button on the router, some models will let you do this through the browser configuration somewhere in the wireless settings. Once WPS button is pushed on router, go to the extender and press the WPS button on it in order for them to link. It will be the only pressable button on the front of the unit. Just pressing for a single second will do. Give it a minute or two to fully connect to your network and from there you will be able to relocate it. Next relocate it to whichever outlet in your living space you originally intended for it to be. It will load up by itself but give it a minute or two. If you are intending to connect an ethernet to the bottom port and lead to a device now is the time to do that once its solid green again. You're technically done at this stage but for security I advise you do one more step. Log back into your local router ip on a web browser. Look to see the device is discovered and it should even be in the mesh segment of your router. It will show up but your hard-wired connected device isn't going to necessarily correspond as a direct link. In the same menu of the mesh segment, simply click on the extender device along with the info displayed with it. This allows you the opportunity to assign the IP of the hardwired device you set up to be linked to the extender. Make sure its the right device, and then it should automatically take you to the ip page of the extender itself. Now once your in the UI for the extender you will want to do a few things and your good to go. Since you configured using WPS the account/pw will be the same for your router. Feel free to go through the settings, but it's only relevant to see that the two devices are connected. Note the IP of the extender. Make sure you're signed into your TP-link account, and navigate to the system settings. Simply set the time zone to the correct setting. After that, in the same, system category, you are going to want to go to firmware and click upgrade. This will go through a rebooting process that might boot you out of the account, in which case clear your browser cookies, close the browser, and re open it. Type http:// whatever the ip address of the extender is and you will be back at the menu to sign in. The last two steps are to first, bind your TP link account to the device, so you have administrative control over it. Lastly, go back to system settings and create a backup of the configuration you just did and store it a folder you will remember. Once that's done you're good to log out and not only the ethernet powered device, but other mobile devices on your network will now be able to utilize the Wi Fi extension. You are finished setting it up here. I still like to go back and log into my router through the browser, to verify that connections are being made to the extender and it is displaying numbers with and up and down error, meaning that it's working. The installation part is quick, but taking the extra step to make sure it is properly configured for its use case, its firmware is up to date, and that you have administrative ownership of the device, is well worth the extra steps. This isn't the most powerful product Tp-link has to offer, but it does do its job in broadcasting Wi Fi from a different point than your router through your electrical system. This will be the easiest way to get this up and running in a secure manner. Hope this helped. Enjoy the new purchase!

I will start by saying I have been a fan of TP Link products for a while now. I have had several TP Link USB Wifi Adapter for PC that all worked perfect. I will also say if you are using it for a PC/laptop or maybe a phone you probably will not have many issues (internet went slow now and then and took 3-5 seconds to load pages then would come back to regular speed). In this particular case, for me personally, this is a "you get what you pay for" type of situation. I saw the reviews and the price on sale and bought this for my spare room where my office is. Intent was to use it to extend my current wifi extender for the very best strength I could get for my working laptop. Setup was pretty simple and straight forward. And yes in the room I did excellent signal strength on both bands. The issue is that when using it my work VPN would keep dropping, cutting out all of the programs I use. I also used it with my Roku TV in the same room and it also worked well but about once an hour or so the channel would lock up and repeat what just happened then continue on. I thought maybe it was that I was trying to extend another brand of extender (Netgear) so I reset it and took it to the actual router and tried extending that instead but had the same results. The router is 70 feet away from my office and yet even though the strength is only good and not excellent My VPN and Roku work fine off of it. The VPN still had a hiccup here and there with the other extender but it was much less often. Maybe once every few days instead of 3-4 times a day with this unit. So I just unplugged it and used my current network and no issues with anything.

Two techs later and an hour on the chat and still no answers. WOW and this is a simple error message that their own app is giving. The techs have NO idea what to do or how to fix anything if it is more than "press the reset" button. Highly recommend you buy another product because this one is a total fail in my experience. Works perfectly. I recently switched to a new internet provider & it came with 1 eeros router. The signal covered about half of my home. I could’ve rented another router for $10/month or purchased one for around $100. I chose to try out this $16 extender & now the signal covers my entire home. Easy set up. Create account & connect!

Time may tell, but I just set this up and was pleasantly impressed. I just moved my office to a sunroom on the second floor of the house that is almost as far away from our modest router as it could be. We pay for 100/10 basic internet and the router does an adequate job, but I noticed that in this new room the signal was weak. I was skeptical about devices such as these knowing that mesh networks are the way to go, but given the price I decided to try it just to see if it might help. Before setting it up I tested my internet and on my 2.4ghz wifi was getting 9.7mbs download/10mbs upload. I set the extender up, which was very easy and took only a few minutes, retested with fast.com and my speed has jumped to 81/11mbs - a substantial and surprising leap. The 5ghz network likewise gained at least 25-30mbs more on the download. I tested with Ookla Speedtest just to make sure there wasn't bias through fast.com, and while the numbers were a bit more humble (~10/10 - 41/11), it is still a significant and noticeable boost in the quality of the signal. For now I am impressed - it does exactly what it says it is supposed to better than I thought it would.

I picked up the TP-Link AC1200 WiFi Extender (RE315) to eliminate dead zones in my home, especially for my office and living room. After some testing, here’s what I think about it: Pros Seamless connection: Works great with TP-Link’s OneMesh system. My devices now switch between the - router and extender seamlessly without dropping the connection. - Improved coverage: Eliminated dead spots, and I’m now getting full-strength WiFi in areas that previously had weak signals. - Easy setup with WPS: Plug it in, press WPS, and it pairs with the router in minutes. - Affordable: It’s budget-friendly compared to other extenders on the market. Cons - Slower speeds on extender: While the main router hits 600 Mbps, the extender maxed out at around 90 Mbps down, which is expected for a WiFi 5 device. - Not ideal for non-TP-Link routers: Performance and compatibility issues may arise with other brands like Bell or Rogers. - Setup struggles: The manual isn’t clear, and I had to rely on tech support for help during the initial setup. - Limited speed improvement: If you’re expecting speeds close to your router’s performance, this extender may fall short. The RE315 isn’t perfect, but it’s a reliable solution for fixing weak WiFi spots. It’s a great option if you’re using a TP-Link router with EasyMesh and value budget-friendly gear. Just don’t expect blazing speeds or flawless performance with non-TP-Link setups.
