Very Solid pump
Uodate -- 11/2012 --I purchased and installed one of these pumps to replace the 10 year old one. I also purchased a new backflow preventer, and the instructions had me drill a hole in the outlet pipe about 6" above the pump. I thought this was strange, but I researched it and this is to prevent air lock, which I guess has flooded a few basements. I drilled the hole, and aside from the stream of water that shoots out in the sump when the pump is running, everything works great.I forgot to also mention that this pump is quiet. I don't really hear it running even when I am in the equipment room with it.Love it!I had one of these in my sump for the last 10 years and it worked flawlessly. It was completely covered in rust scale, and the little handle had rusted off but the pump kept on working. I just replaced it with another exact unit..as you can't argue with success. This unit is assembled in USA, a plus, and is a serious pump that you want to have in your basement especially if it is finished. The installation instructions could be better; They are filled with cautions and warnings but little substance.Great pump. Definately recommend.

Strong Pump
This exact model pump originally came with our home that was built in 2001. Recently, over the past year or so the switch was beginning to stick and the pump would stay on as others have noted. In the past year I cleaned the diaphragm on the switch a few times which got it working again. The last few weeks the Midwest experienced some major flooding in areas and our switch finally stuck permanently closed. The pump still runs great. So I looked online and noticed that the replacement diaphragm switches are about $80. Realizing this is half the cost of a new setup I decided to just buy it. I feel justified in my purchase as I am keeping the old pump in case the new one goes out. Although it could be a long time as other have noted that theirs gave 18+ years of service. Be aware that shipping this item fast will cost you a pretty penny. I would suggest getting a vertical switch in the interim at a local hardware store if you need to fix yours asap. I ordered this pump online with free shipping and it got to my home in 3 days.

Excellent pump
Excellent pump that will last 10-15 years. Crappy diaphragm switch that will probably last 3-4. Do yourself a favor and purchase a spare switch. The dps 41 has a 4" range and the dps 81 has an 8" range. I prefer the 81 so the pump doesnt run as often.

Great price and good shipping
I still can't believe I could buy this on Amazon. It was exactly what we needed, came at a good price, works well, and was shipped nicely. Our old Hydromatic lasted ten years and it was the pump switch, not the pump, which failed. Unfortunately the cost of a new switch is nearly as much as a whole new pump! So we bought one. Reliable and solid.

Long lasting pump from Hydromatic
I just replaced my 20+ years old Hydromatic pump as switch failed first time. Pump works fine in manual mode and I believe it is DA1 model. It is so rusted and I could not read the model number. I wonder if they introduced DA1 20 years ago. Replacement is 5 min job as I was able to use all old pipes including old check valve. It took me more time to test it. You need to put lot of water for pressure diaphragm switch to activate. I thought of replacing check valve too but the old is better than new one as it is not leaking any water backwards where as new one dripping slowly into pit. I am going keep the old one as spare in case I need it use it as spare. I need to figure how to get all that 1 inch layer off rust and dirt out now. Our sump pump pit is dry if there is no water. It runs only when ground water sweep thru during spring and snow days. I hope this new one also last like the one I just replaced.

A little disapointing
The pump only lasted 28 days before it stopped working. Not sure what the problem was. Amazon did issue me a full refund upon return of the pump. I had this brand pump previously and it lasted about 5 years before it stopped. I decided to try a different brand just to see how long it would last. Could have been that I just got a bad one.

Diaphragm Switch Failed, Again.
Pump is OK but the diaphragm switch failed. It seems that the switch only last 3 to 4 years. Mine stuck on for who know how long. The pump was running empty for long period of time until I discovered the pump running empty. Still better than switch stuck off. Meaning my finished basement will be under water....

I just replaced it with this same pump in perfect working condition (except the switch
This pump was in my house when I moved in 9 years and several hurricanes ago. To be cautious, I just replaced it with this same pump in perfect working condition (except the switch, see below). It is heavy and solid. Speaking of solids, it has some solid pumping capability, which is useful since lots of sediment ends up in my pit. Like others mentioned, the diaphragm broke after about 7 years. Mine failed by not letting the pump on, while others report that it failed in the on position. Instead of buying the expensive OEM switch that others report will break again, I bought a little giant for much less. That was removed with the pump still working after 4.5 years. There are also two other versions of the same pump with different switch mechanisms based on floats if the diaphragm makes you nervous.
