Very impressive design, and build quality is excellent. After assembly, the carrier requires NO tools to open and set up, and NO tools to close. When closed, it easily fits behind the seat of the truck inside the cabin, leaving plenty of room for other stuff. Plenty of tie-offs to secure the load. The width perfectly accommodates two sea kayaks. So, is it legal to carry such a long load? Yes. I made a formal inquiry to our state DOT, and they confirmed it. In my state (Arkansas) the load must extend no further aft than 4 meters (13 feet) from the center of the REAR axle. Our two kayaks are 14 1/2 feet long, and they fit with 18 inches to spare. We can legally haul two 16' boats, or 16' lumber or PVC pipe. Flags are required, and adequately securing to kayaks required rope and ingenuity. And speaking of ingenuity, you will need it to put the carrier together. The instructions are very inadequate; hopefully my picture will help.

easy to use and solid
I am very happy with this hitch. At first I had a hard time deciding between this one and another mode. This one is heavy and could easily handle the weight of my double Kayak or my solid Paddle board. I found this much easier to use than having to strap the items onto the roof. It is easy to install, add a couple straps and a flag and you are ready to go.

Pro Tip - Read below after review
First the bad: Product arrived with box completely torn off on one end and numerous scratches and dings on the finish... Luckily, itโs a sturdy chunk of steel and itโs for a work/play vehicle so I donโt really care. I can just spray paint it if the finish gets bad. Other than that, the product is pretty great. Mostly well designed and seems like it will last forever with proper care. Love the folding action. Seems very sturdy and would definitely trust it to carry building materials or kayaks. Definitely would recommend this to anyone who wants to extend the bed of their pickup. Pro Tip: There is a decent amount of play in the folding action. To remedy this I added a 1/2โ x 2โ fender washer to each side of the hinge bolt (inside the hinge frame, see photos). These cover a lot of surface and really make the whole assembly a lot more solid. You can find these at any hardware store. You can also add one on either side of one of the bottom bolts to sturdy it up even further like I did (to do both of the lower bolts, youโd need smaller 1/2โ washers). I also moved the small washers at the base of the folding arms to the inside of the hinge to remove the play, then added a locking washer on the outside (see third photo). The frame feels way more solid and sturdy and doesnโt rattle around. You could probably do the same thing inside your hitch receiver around the hitch pin if you have too much wiggle room there. Just would need the right size washers. Mine fits pretty snug though. Either way, best of luck!

Functional
Works great for intended use. Mostly used for hauling lumber but is also very handy for hauling my kayaks in the bed of my truck.

4 feet between eyelets
Received in a box that must have fallen apart in shipping Box looked like it was taped up in the fedex delivery ground truck Full of holes I figured half of the stuff would be missing Being a holy box But the box gods came to the rescue Everything was in the box I looked at various cargo extensions before purchasing this one My main reason on this one is The measurement between the tie downs is 48โ So a 4x8 sheet of plywood can be carried flat on this unit All of the others were less the 48โ wide Folds up. A very nice feature for storage, and has handles for carrying Others manufacturers do not fold up or are 48โ wide Seems to be made very well Price of this item is a bonus I would recommend this item

Truck extender
Iโm going to use this truck extender mainly for my 11โ6โ (YUKON) kayak. This tool is a perfect fit , using foam noodles cut to fit , thatโs helps the kayak to load up easier ๐๐ฝ๐๐ฝ

Almost perfect but manufacturing defect required creativity for storage
The bad: The instructions were more how to use once assembled and warnings than how to assemble. The video on Amazon made it really easy to assemble. As I worked on it, I realized that it came with what I am guessing is a manufacturer's defect because it is so hard and sturdy that I can't imagine it would have been damaged this way during transport. The brackets that are intended to secure the frame when folded to be able to lift and move were spread apart at the top more than they should be. They are so far apart that the pin that works to keep it open doesn't reach to lock it closed. I guess if one was to be damaged, this is better. Unfortunately, if I were to replace the part, it would be the largest part. We went scavenger hunting in the garage for how to secure it. We used a washing machine transport screw (that I don't know why I saved when I got my washing machine delivered) and the packaging for a chisel to put on the tip of the screw for safety (since it is so sharp). The bracket is bent enough that although the screw reaches, it doesn't enter directly, however it just so happens that I can screw it in and it gets past the bend. You can see in the attached photos the way that I "McGuyvered" it with a comparison of just how short the included pin is and why it wouldn't reach. I may look for a replacement pin that is longer than the supplied one, or I may just leave it be, since it is for storing that I am using the screw and not when in use. The good: I got this to take kayaks on trips with my mom. It really seems super strong. There is no way that I can bend it back. It is heavy. I am better sharing the weight with my mom to carry it. We like that it can be folded down and put out of the way. The folding action has no play in ours. I don't have enough space for a washer as advised by another reviewer, which makes me further believe that the manufacturing processes are not very precise. We will be mounting it and taking Kayaks out this weekend and are very hopeful that this is exactly what we needed. I would buy it again, but I am guessing there will be toss ups what defect could be received.
