Is there much difference between youth and adult size?

Shock Doctor actually makes a cup in a teen size which is a size between the youth and adult and is blue in color. Would an xs work for an 8 year old ?

Perfect fit for a junior youth - my Son is 9 years old - because it is slimline and not a massive triangular wedge. Soft moulded edges that are spongy to touch and with ventilation holes too.
