Omnipage 18 Standard [PC Download]

Warning - the only problem I had is that Amazon sells a version which will not on windows 8 and I have windows 8. As noted in other reviews, I called Nuance tech support for Omnipage and they sent me a link to download the correct version. And I am very happy Omnipage. I bought a scanner which came with Omnipage 4 SE. Of all the OCRs I have used, Omnipage performs the best. So now that I have upgraded my computer and scanner, I purchased Omnipage 18 from amazon. So just for the fun of it, I scanned two very complex documents together, sideways. Omnipage read them and yielded an almost perfect text document of each page. The only problem that I found was that the page numbers of the documents were not perfectly centered. Other that that, it was perfect.The speed of conversion was fast. I have a laptop made to work very fast. Some software can slow my computer to a crawl. But with Omnipage, it takes less than one second to convert a page. I am impressed.Since Omnipage sells for $149 on other sites, even if you have windows 8, I would buy the software from Amazon and have Nuance update it. And don't worry, the techs at Nuance receive many calls regarding amazon and know what to do.

The version that Amazon sells is 18.0 which has a bug which causes a bunch of script errors when the app. starts. I researched on Nuance's forums and found out that if you call support they will give you a link to download ver. 18.01 which fixes the problem. You will have to have the serial number from the 18.0. Since this is not the current version Nuance does not provide this update on their support site or withing the software update screen that runs the first time the program is run. Still, once this hassle is gone through the program seems to work OK and it is a whole lot cheaper than the current version, which is $99. I asked Nuance support why Amazon is still selling this version and they said they didn't have any control over it. Whatever, be forewarned.

Fabulous. Not compatible with Windows 10.

This is a warning to anyone using Windows beyond XP It is a piece of crap. The reviews I read gave this product high marks as late as an Aug 2017 review. I never got it to do much of anything on Win 10 lots of bugs connection failures etc.. Trying to update it I get a message that the app is out of date and directing me to the Nuance website to purchase (at greatly reduced price) their Ultima. Well it works with win 10 and the total cost of the two was about as expected to pay for one app. But the one feature that made me choose -- conversion to ebook formats just isn't there in either and the Nuance website is a disaster to try to find help.

I paid $47 for this badly "refurbished" version. I have managed to use the standard OCR workflow but things do not work if you try to customize your own workflow. The program also runs several script errors when starting. They are asking me if I want to update/upgrade my product for more money. But it seems like extortion to me at this point. They gave a bad version for 50 dollars and now they are basically asking me to fix it for more than double that money. I am not sure you are getting a good deal here. I am sure there are other OCR softwares that are more userfriendly and as accurate as this Omnipage.

I purchased it knowing about some of the problems I read in the reviews. After installing, I experienced the problem of a script error with the error message saying it couldn't find a page on the internet. I solved this problem by editing the "C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts" file and inserting these two lines:# [Omnipage script block] 127.0.0.1 www.ocr.comI also read that there was a new installation file so I contacted Nuance customer support and in less than 10 minutes they had emailed me a link to get the new installation file. I then had to uninstall the software downloaded from Amazon, reboot the PC, and download and reinstall it. After doing all this, the program seems to run quite well. It looks like a very sophisticated program. For simple OCR activities, it is quite easy to use. For more complex OCR activities, there is a learning curve. Overall, I would say it is an incredible value for the price of less than $30. I do think Amazon should have the version of "Omnipage Standard 18" that actually works available for download. I don't think one has to make the changes to the system file I mentioned above IF you have the latest version of "Omnipage Standard 18". I might also add that there is a new release of this software but it is not even called "Omnipage Standard 18" and costs considerably more.

I bought this product to convert a PDF presentation to a Microsoft Word document. The presentation was 20 pages with a lot of embedded graphs, pictures and font changes. I couldn't believe how fast and accurate the conversion was. I highly recommend this product especially for the price.

It has worked fine for me since I bought it last month. Easily converts a hard copy that I scan to OCR, and into an editable Word document.
