Jerusalem Artichoke (Organic) 1 Pound - Hardy Red Fuseau Variety - (Sunroot 'chokes or Sunchoke) by Yumheart Gardens

They all sprouted and made plants that were 7 feet tall. My soil is poor but I harvested about 1 gallon of sunchokes from 5 plants. Pretty good for a first experience. BTW, they make a lot of gas :( so cooking them in acidic solutions, like lemon juice, may help reduce this effect.

1st year I was worried. I planted them in an old large round water trough. This second year they have filled it and are about 2.5’ tall rn(mid May) As a perennial the third year should be their major glow-up & I’ll never have to think about them again except to harvest.

All tubers sprouted and production was high.

I just received my order in 103F heat in early September. I was so pleased they were delivered 4 days earlier than date promised. I was very surprised by the size of the large tubers. There were a couple smaller ones but 4 large and 2 medium. Well cleaned surfaces, I noticed a couple had sprouted some fine white roots. I will get these covered up quickly. Never have grown these, so I'll have to report on that. I had eaten some other 'choke's from the market, but the markets nearby don't carry them anymore. I'll try these and see. They look vigorous and fresh. Edited Oct 14 2018. Wow! I planted the uncut tubers in 20 inch pots in potting medium of coconut coir, compost, worm castings, etc. They sprouted in days, and now are 18inchs tall with lush foliage. I'll probably have to take them out of the pots and fill in with more compost to keep tuber production going. Can't plant in ground, too many gophers and ground squirrels, so I'll see how it goes. The foliage is healthy, no sign of bugs or disease.

Arrived on time. JA's nice and plump. Was a little disappointed by how small they were. Got the impression that they were larger from the listing. There was the right amount weight-wise. I gave four stars because I want to wait to see how they will grow. It will be nice to have a purple variety.

Planted in well drained sunny spot. Not one of them sprouted.

I got these January 2021 and had no idea what to do with them. I was kicking myself for ordering them in the dead of winter. First year Gardner excitement ;) I decided to bury them in the dirt and see if they were still viable in the spring. I'm in zone 8a, it only snowed once over the winter. When I uncovered them in April, they looked great. I transplanted them into 5-gallon garden bags (4 per bags) and every single one of them grew into a plant. I sifted the bags 2 days ago (Jan 22, 2022) and have what you see in the photo - wow! That's a 23 quart pot. I had no idea I'd have this many chokes - buy w/out hesitation lol I purchased red and white from this seller. They both did equally as well.

I give this seller/product a TEN!!! I am very new to gardening, but had recent success planting potatoes starts. I was told about the health value of these tubers so wanted to try planting fir myself. To be honest, I didn't put them in the ground right away. I opened the package and placed them in my fridge for 2 or 3 days. I then set them out on my shaded porch for a full 24 hours to get them to "normal" temp before putting them in the ground--if this sounds wrong, forgive me. I really have no clue about gardening. I planted them in a 4 × 8 foot bed we had flowers in last year. I pulled out all the weeds and put in several REALLY old bags of mulch I had in my shop--the mulch was so old, it had completely dried out and there were lizards burrowed in a couple of the bags. I took a 50-foot soaker hose and wound it around the bed and turned it on and left it for a couple hours, until the water soaked through. There were still dry patches. Fortunately, it rained and it was all completely saturated. Unfortunately, the Temps in our area dropped to. I thought they might rot. Well, about 2 weeks later they began to sprout. Once they started, I could see new shoots every 1 to 2 days. They are still coming up. The smallest buds in my picture were not there last evening. I planted a few more in ground I had just tilled. In this area I through in mulch, but I tilled it into the soul. I think I only put in 3 or 4, maybe 6 tops. 3 of these have sprouted as well. I planted both beds on the same day. The only difference is mulch vs. Mulch and tilled soil.---sirry, could not add photos.
