Watch the Video
I kept this in my cart for months not sure if I should try it. I'm so glad I did. My stone fireplace looks great. Easy to apply, easy to clean up. I do highly recommend watching the video from the manufacturer to see them apply and clean up their sample fireplace. If I had not watched that I don't think it would have worked as well for me. I wound not have understood the process as well. You do need some scrubbing and it is extremely important to keep it thick otherwise it will not peel off properly. My fireplace had deep grout and if it had been thinner the product would not have pulled out of the deep crevices.

Works well, take your time, not cheap
Guests at our vacation home frequently fail to open the flue, causing staining above the fireplace. This works like a charm to remove the stain, but is not a cheap fix.

Some difficulty getting it off all the way.
Cleaned the brick very well, easy to use, no smell. There are still spots that I cannot get off, will have to scrub it or try to go over it again to see if I can peel it off.

Great product, high cost
This is a good product to clean most of the soot from around the fireplace on the brick. It even removed a varnish stain left from the mantle. It does not remove all the dirt from the hearth. However I did found a way to clean the hearth. Initially I clean all the brick with a vinegar and water solution. Then I applied the Paint and Peel. After removing the film, there was still dirt and soot in the deep pores of the brick. I then took a solution of TSP and water and scrubbed the hearth. After rinsing and drying, the hearth was practically clean.A few suggestions to others. Do not "paint" this product on but smear it on thick and work it into all the pores. Work on small areas at a time to make removal easier. Also, for the edges, use painter's tape (the blue stuff) to give you an edge to start peeling it up. If the stuff does not completely come off and you have small pieces stuck on, use a vinegar and water solution and a scrub brush to loosen it up. It is water base so the water will soften it up and it rolls right off. This helps if the stuff gets into cracks.I only gave this product 4 stars because of the high cost and the word "paint" is misleading. But for a good cleaner, this seems to be the best. Any better and you would have to have someone come in and blast the surface with dry-ice. (fire restoration contractor)

Don't Waste Your Time & Money On Paint "N" Peel!!!
In my opinion Paint "N" Peel is a complete waste of time and money! I spent over $100.00 on this product and it did not work nearly as well as I was lead to believe. In my opinion Paint "N" Peel is similar to those infomercial products that seem to good to be true. Bottom line - It is terrible!!! I followed the instructions very carefully. I spent a couple of hours applying "Paint "N" Peel" exactly as described. I let it dry a full 24 hours. It peeled off perfectly. Unfortunately, it removed very little soot. I ended up having to purchase Quick 'n Brite spray soot cleaner for only $16.99 The Quick 'n Brite spray soot cleaner worked great!!! A little elbow grease, Quick 'n Brite and approximately 2 hours of my time and our fireplace looks almost brand new. Thank you Quick 'n Brite! Paint "N" Peel I would love a complete refund for the $100.04 I paid. Unfortunately, I won't be compensated for the time I wasted applying and peeling off Paint "N" Peel.

Creosote remover
This product removes burned in creosote from the fireplace stone face. It does take a few repeated applications to do this. It removed every trace of black creosote from the stonework. It doesn't remove every trace of creosote from the grout between the stone work, but its not bad though. Overall, it does the job!

It works!
I should have taken pictures of before and after. The first day it was tan colored. 2nd day it was dark color. First, I thought our contractor poured water on it, but NO it was because it absorbed up all the soot. Really neat. The key is to put a thick layer over the stone. It took up 80-90% off the soot. We probably could have done a 2nd round but decided not too as it still looked so much better.

Product works well on years of soot
We waited almost 48 hours for removal, and it peeled off lole a sheet of flexible vinyl. We used 4 gallons which was not enough, which you csn see our coverage area in one photo. We plan to buy more to complete the job.
