Ok Product.
I have purchased this product before and for the cost, it is a great value. Granted, you get what you pay for. After about a week, the case for the connector end broke apart. The product still worked and all I had to do was glue it back together. I still use it today. The bad part is when the power supply broke like that and shorted. It managed to kill my hard drive (nothing on it anyways) and fry the power supply. I'm hoping that this time it is a little better built. As for ease of use; none what so ever. It took me about 2 hours to get my first hard drive to connect to my computer, mostly because of the power supply. You have to connect them in a very specific, time sensitive sequence(All cables together, power supply into the wall and usb into the computer quickly). Though, it does offer great compatibility, it is very limited on speed because of the fact that it does use usb 2.0. I'm sure that with the rise of usb3.0 in the near future, we will see the product replaced by one for that interface. All in all, if you are just trying to save data from an old computer in a computer repair shop, don't use the included power supply. Use a bench supply or another supply from a running computer. It makes it a lot easier to use. It really is a great product, but it could use some work to make it 5 out of 5.

Data Recovery for Under $10 USD!!!
I read the other reviews before buying this adapter and was a bit concerned if it would work with PATA devices. However, buyers should know that it works with all types of hard drives: laptop, desktop, SATA, PATA (IDE)... you name it. It doesn't come in a fancy box but would you rather pay an extra $5-10 for a box? This thing is plug-and-play. Just connect the adapter to your drive (and plug power in where needed) and plug the USB end into your machine.Windows 7 x64 recognized this device immediately. It shows up as a SATA/IDE to USB Bridge. All drives come up as "Mass USB Storage Device"I've tested this with PATA/SATA desktop drives and a laptop drive as well. They all work.I have two complaints:1. the box came in a little bashed up. I'm a neat freak so I like to have my package come in sparkling new but I'll live.2. the adapter feels a little weak. I think the plastic is a little on the cheap side but only time will tell in terms of its durability. I'll just go easy on it.Another note: don't expect to use this as an alternative to an external drive enclosure. This unit does heat up a bit. Also, you leave your drive open to the elements without a case.

I can't say that this would work for everyone but it worked well enough by me and I am extremely satisfied. I plan to keep these
If I could give this thing 10 stars I would. My 5 year old 1tb external hard drive spontaneously just stopped working. It still turned on, the fan still blew but my computer would not recognize it. I'm only slightly tech savvy but I knew that the drive was not irreparably damaged. Just not cooperating with me. I live in the boonies of Arkansas so I decided to send it into a data recovery facility for an evaluation. They told me it would cost several hundreds of dollars to recover the data and put it on a new hard drive. Knowing this was unlikely I asked to have it sent back. After much arguing. They finally did. I ordered this cable set so I could do some evaluating of my own. Took my external hard drive out of the case, plugged it up, and lo and behold my computer recognizes the drive no problem. Inferring it was the case that was the issue (PCB). So instead of being scammed out of several hundreds of dollars, I saved tons by buying this and recovering the data myself. I can't say that this would work for everyone but it worked well enough by me and I am extremely satisfied. I plan to keep these babies on standby for the future.

Roasted my hard drives
That's right, plural, I was dumb enough to try twice. It roasted a hard drive, made a loud crackling noise and them smoke started shooting out. Tried again with one of those older hard drives that's less important for me and the same. I am disappointed it had to happen to one of my better hard drives but I am glad to have confirm it's this product and not my initial hard drive using a lesser one.Transparency:This happened awhile ago. I bought this and forgot about it. Used it, it didn't work, it didn't even bring my hard drive on screen or anything. Shook it off since I didn't remember where I got it, then tried it again awhile later and instead of doing nothing, it cooks my hard drives.

Back-ups for my laptop
It allows me to back up my laptop using Norton Ghost 9 backup software installed on the laptop.I have a bare IDE hard drive designated specifically for the back ups and it's all done on top of my desk.Have not used the SATA connectors but assume they work also.Created a "boot disk" using an SD memory card in a USB "thumb" drive using the Ghost software.Backups are slow because you are using USB but leave it for a few hours and it's done.Make sure you plug in the hard drive, then the power supply before connecting the USB to the laptop.Likewise, make sure you unplug the USB and unplug the power supply before disconnecting the hard drive.Thought about giving it 4 stars because the black molex connector from the a.c. power supply (not shown)was quite hard to put into the white molex (shown). Had to to trim the corners down a little bit so it went in easier. But for the cheap price, and because it had the power supply, I had to give it 5 stars.I have experienced no problems with the power supply as seen on other reviews.

Cables paraconexión
Simplemente cables. Valen para conectar equipos con otros y no tienen nada de especial. Precio un poco alto para lo que es.....pero es lo que hay.

First class and affordable way to retrieve data from old hard disks
Had a bit of difficulty until I realised that the HDD disks I was trying to use had to be set to "Master". Once this was done, everything ran smoothly.Connected to laptop with nor problem and data speed was fast.Highly recommended if you have any old SATA or IDE disks that you want the data off.
