Fantastic shower radio
We've been through 3 other shower radios recently trying to get a reasonable one. The first one didn't still to the wall well and broke from too many drops and the analogue tuner constantly needed fine tuning daily, also was quite fussy on where we mounted it to get a good signal. The next two had crap reception, barely held a station for 5 minutes without drifting. This Sangean radio is fantastic - It has a backplate to mount on the wall with either screws or foam adhesive pads (I used the pads) and then the radio clips onto the backplate. This means its very solidly mounted on the wall and will never fall off but its easy to remove if you do want to use it elsewhere (Pool, beach, in the rain....). It has a typical white wire antenna and I did have to put this out but I simply hung it over the side all of the shower and it is giving absolutely perfect reception on all FM bands here in New Zealand and having a good digital tuner it NEVER drifts!!! It takes two D size batteries but the other reviews gave it excellent battery life and so far we've been using it for 20 - 30 minutes a day quite loud as its in the shower and the battery life indicator hasn't dropped one bar. It has a nice big clear display with the station freq. and the time and it also has a torch on the side (great if you have a powercut showering in the middle of the night?). It cost 5 times what my other shower radios cost but is worth every cent and more as it looks like it will last many years of great service! I highly recommend this for people who like to listen to the radio in the shower or want a good radio for beside the pool or to take to the beach as its completely waterproof (even submersible). Update: 6 months with the radio and I've just changed the first set of batteries (no brand alkalines). Still as good as the day it arrived. Don't know what they coat it with but it's never needed as much as a wipe, seems impervious to soap scum etc, we do have it high but it definitely gets splashed with shampoo etc and yet it's pristine. It's exceeded my expectations. Update: I've had this for 5 years now give or take and its never missed a beat and still looks and works like brand new - Its one of those purchases I will never regret - Pay a bit more and get something that has a quality build. Very happy with the price I paid too, I got it including shipping for about $120NZD - I found them online here and they retail for $350NZD!!!!!

Sangean H201
I think this is a great radio. I had a cheap $20.00 radio before I bought the Sangean H201 radio. The Sangean H201 is much better quality. I hated to pay $58.00 for a radio butt its worth it . Its even heavy with out the 2 D batteries that powers it. That tells you it well built. I have only used it for 1 week. I will change this review if it goes bad on me. Pros : The FM reception is vey good. I get more radio stations with this radio than with the cheap one I previously owned. There is a coiled up wire antenna in a compartment. I left the coiled up wire in the compartment because it gets good FM reception. If you can't get some FM stations you can take the coiled up wire and let it hang down from the radio. You can program 5 FM stations on your radio. This is a nice feature. If you don't like one station hit another station. The AM reception is just okay. I think I live in a area that does not have allot of AM stations. It works okay. You can program 5 AM stations on your radio. Its has a clock on it. It uses 2 D cell batteries. They are supposed to last 120 hours of listening 4 hours a day. You can get NOAA weather station on this radio. It even has a weather alert built into it. I already have one of these so I don't need that function. But they say it alerts you if bad weather is in your area. I do listen to the NOAA weather station on the radio. I live in tornado country so I like to listen to the weather if I'm in the shower. Has a light on it. If your power goes off you can turn on a light to see . You could carry this radio around to use as flashlight if you don't own a flashlight. Has a lot of mounting possibilities. You can hang it directly on the wall. They give you a bracket . Or you can flip up the handle on the top of the radio and hang it from your shower head. Its waterproof Cons: I hated to pay $58.00 for a radio. Its kind of heavy

Fantastic Shower Radio
I bought this shower radio expecting to get something that was lacking in sound and reception, basically a cheap sort of water resistant radio. I was very, very wrong! I have many radios, I collect them, and this shower radio is among the best as to reception on both AM and FM, (Even in an enclosed, tiled shower where I use it) and ranks among my best as to AM and FM reception. Further, and also shocking, was the sound. It actually is nice, even for music with its one decent speaker. The features are nice too, as it has a built in light with the push of a water resistant button if you loose power at night while bathing, and it has a "Siren" mode to push to alert someone nearby if you slip, (if you can get to it) which is about as loud as a battery type smoke detector. I hope to not have to use it, but nice it is there. They thought of the details. It even includes a built in TIMER- so you can know if you need to hurry up in the bathroom for an appointment, for work, or whatever the day has in store. This timer is surprisingly convenient and simple to use. This radio also has an accurate easy to read clock, along with the digital tuner. The durability seems very good. This has been with us since May 2010, used daily, sometimes rather moist around and on it, it keeps going. BATTERY LIFE: This radio uses 2 D cells. We have in it 2 NIMH Rechargables- and have since May- still going, have not had to charge them yet- curious just how long it can go- used about 20 to 30 minutes a day, perhaps missed a few days-but great battery life for such decent sound and reception. Overall-the wire FM antenna, (necessary to avoid rusting) actually works great, unlike most other such wires with FM radios that receive almost nothing without playing around or holding the wire. This radio really is great. The sound and reception are literally at the tops, I've compared it to the famous CC Plus radio, and it is almost that good- and clearly better than the average radio, and far better than more expensive bedside radios and most stereo receivers as to reception. It's value is clearly there-and Sangean has always been a solid brand in this house-we have many of them-all still work over the years- IF you get this, you will love it. One note--it's a bit heavier that I would have thought, a good thing really-but you will need to hang it from something in the wall that is fairly solid, a grab bar is great if you have one. It comes with hanging options, we just used the built on handle and it worked great. Enjoy it- buy it and enjoy your private time while knowing the time and catching up on news, or whatever. Fantastic buy.

Great Quality Product.
I've only owned this radio for a few days now so the following are my initial impressions, if anything changes in time I'll update. This thing just screams quality. Certainly not the cheapest, but well worth the added cost. There is nothing flimsy here, and nothing that I don't look at as a design engineer with 10+ years of product design experience and say "I'd be proud to have designed that". A few examples: The carry handle is stoutly built and works in such a way that you can pass it through a loop, over a hook, etc. When the handle is fully extended the open end reengages with the housing so that both sides support some of the load, this is really nicely done. Similarly the battery door is held closed by a second swinging latch. You close the battery door, then fold this latch over the free end of the battery door. This latch-action cams the battery door very tightly closed, open it back up and you'll notice a rubber gasket molded around the perimeter of the battery compartment (you won't notice it until you look for it), on the back of the battery door is a matching rib which presses into the rubber when the door is closed. This gives a very robust seal and shows a quality of design and manufacture not usually found on consumer products. The buttons, screen, speaker, etc. all give the same kind of quality feel. If I sat in a brand new car and saw this kind of quality in the controls, latches, etc. I'd be impressed. As a radio it does what I want. Reception is better than you'll get from basic hand held stuff. So far if I can pick it up in my vehicle this thing can tune it in inside my house with minimal tweaking of antenna position, nothing else I've tried can pick up some of the weaker stations I want to listen to from inside my house. Most of my experimentation so far has been on the FM band. I've also verified that I can pick up weather broadcasts loud and clear. I bought this to put in my shower so I don't spend 20+ minutes in there half day-dreaming half asleep and wind up late for work (NOT a morning person). Just having the clock to look at seems to help, and if that's not enough I can set the timer to get my attention. The combination of clock, timer, and radio in a water-proof package is what I was originally looking for, this thing delivers. A few other features I wasn't expecting: It has a built-in flashlight on the side near the controls and screen, you wouldn't buy this for a flashlight, but it's nice to have It also comes with a detachable carry strap and a mounting plate for attaching to the wall. I've not tried either of these but they're their if you want to use them. It also has a plug for an AC/DC adapter. (3VDC, 0.5A). Radio does not come with said adapter, and honestly I'm expecting 2 D cell batteries to last long enough I don't care, but if you wanted to this thing running all day every day, or hate having batteries, you do have the option to plug it in if you buy a converter.

Great radio w/one small problem (2 problems if you would prefer a rechargeable device like me!)
This is a fantastic radio. I'd give it 5 stars if it didn't have one flaw. See those horizontal lines on face of the speaker? That's where water accumulates and sits. Those lines should be at an angle that allows for quick drainage. 45 degrees or so. It's hard to hear the music clearly, between the water in your ears, the white noise of the shower, AND water muffling all the high- and mid-range notes. I bought my first one in 2012. And my second one in 2023. It still worked, but it had become infiltrated by scum/mold(?) since I had not opened it to clean it in 11 years. Live and learn. It would be even better, if it didn't take batteries at all, but was rechargeable instead. Batteries have come a long way in the last 14 years since I first bought it. Time for an upgrade Sangean!

Excellent radio for the shower
Dec 2, 2012 Update: ------------------- My original Duracell D batteries used in the radio lasted over a year at an average of about 20 minutes a day of use. Not sure if this is a statement about the battery brand or that the radio is more efficient at drawing power, but I think it is the latter. That is certainly a plus. Also, after changing the batteries I noticed the radio retained both the date/time setting and my memorized channels across the battery change. Very happy with this radio. Original Review: ----------------- Finally decided to replace my circa-1996 Sharper Image shower radio with something a bit more feature-rich. Looked at several replacements on Amazon before choosing this one based on its features and positive reviews. Conclusion: --------------- So far I am very happy with what this radio provides. If you are looking for an AM/FM radio with time display for your shower, this is an excellent unit. A bit more detail - Now that I have had the radio for a couple of weeks, here are my pros and wishes: Pros: ----- 1) Digital tuning, stored presets, and external antenna - local stations all come in crystal clear and are very easily chosen. No drifting tuning that results in stations sometimes sliding slightly left or right of the actual station frequency. 2) Auto-off can be set to differing times and once set, will always use that value - I prefer a 20 minute auto-off so I don't have to fumble with the radio after jumping out of the shower/finishing up - this radio allows you to pre-define the auto-off time in five minute increments. Once set, you easily recall it the next time you invoke auto-off. 3) On-screen battery life indicator so you can easily tell at a glance when the batteries are getting low. Cons: ------- None yet. Wishes: ------- 1) Built-in MP3 player - Adding an MP3 player with an external USB port (that could be made to be water-resistant) would make this great radio even better. 2) Better anti-fog capabilities of the display - not really a big deal but my display fogs up to the point where the display is not easily readable when not looking directly at it. My previous radio never fogged up. Too soon to tell: ---------------- 1 Battery life. Unit uses two D batteries so I am hopeful it will see at least four months of daily use at 20 minutes a pop. 2 Ability to retain settings across battery changes - I haven't experienced a battery change yet so I am unsure if the unit is able to retain presets and time settings across battery changes - my last radio did not and required me to move through the time and date every time I changed the batteries.

Excellent!
I only give 5 stars if I feel that I would definitely buy the item again and not even shop for anything else. This is a 5-star radio. I'm doing some house hopping and needed a radio. While I'm showing, grooming, dressing, etc. I like to listen to NPR on the radio. I missed my radio this season, so I decided to try this one for the snowbird location. I am a happy owner of a Sony Tap Tunes radio that is probably 30 years old. If Sony still made that radio, I would have purchased it. I'm a big fan of Sony radios (I also own a Sony transistor radio that I bought in 1966 that still works perfectly) but they let me down this time. I realize prices have gone up, but $300 for a radio? Nope, wouldn't do it. So, I started shopping around and came across this Sangean radio that had good reviews. I've never heard of the company, but I thought I'd give it a try. Lucky me, it was the right choice. I am more than pleased. I bought the H-201 model (w/o Bluetooth). I live in a ex-urban area with iffy radio and tv signals, but this radio found my station and the FM signal is perfect. Got the radio up and running without reading the instructions (yes, I'm a Boomer), no problems. No worries. Excellent sound. The size is good. The volume control and tuning are easy to use. If you need a radio, I highly recommend this one.

A Great Shower Radio
I purchased the Sangean AM/FM Digital Shower Radio about two months ago. Previously I have owned the Sony ICFS79W Weather Digital Shower radio and it worked well for me for about six years, but the top of the radio was made out of a material that cracked over time and the radio simply wore out. I had it hung from the shower door when I owned it. When I was researching radios I knew I wanted something different than the Sony, simply because the Sony wore out too quickly for my taste. The review here is comparing the Sangean radio to the Sony since this is my only frame of reference. This review also must take into account that I have only owned the radio for two months. I purchased the Sangean radio based on the reviews on Amazon. In the photo the radio looks cheap but when it arrived I was surprised at the size of the radio and the weight. This is a substantial unit. I liked the sleek design and I really liked the wall hanging attachment that was included. I mounted the radio up above my head and next to the shower head because the vents in the speaker point down and I thought that this would provide me with better sound. The radio was easy to program. The buttons are sturdy and feel like they will last longer than the Sony. The radio is intuitive to use and there are five presets for AM and five for FM. Since I am a creature of habit the radio is usually on one preset station. The only minor complaint I have is that when you turn on the radio the clock is not present and there is no way to tell what time it is. I can turn off the radio and the clock immediately comes on. The sound is also more substantial than the Sony. It has a deeper base sound and for one speaker produces a pretty nice sound for the shower. The volume buttons (there is an up and down) work well and it is easy to find a setting loud enough to be heard over the shower and quiet enough not to wake up the rest of the house. The only thing I did not understand is the light on the side of the radio. It is like a miniature miner's helmet light and in the shower it really serves no purpose. I imagine if you took this radio out on a boat it could come in handy some way. This radio also comes with a strap, which I attached, and you could theoretically hang it over the shower. I simply mounted the radio on the included wall mounting unit so the strap itself is redundant to me. I would highly recommend this radio to anyone looking for a solid, well-built and nice sounding system.

5 Stars
For years I had a shower radio that made me a little crazy every morning. I had to adjust the dial to get my sports channel to work properly. Yeah I could of switched to another channel, but my preferred station worked, even if it did cost me time to fiddle (and curse) every day. I recently decided to change my approach with the Sangean and it works perfectly. I live in the country, and many stations are elusive. So I needed an extra sensitive tuner. I also wanted digital, so I could use push buttons to lock stations. I hung it up on my shower head, and it works perfectly with my favourite station. I know I should have done this a long ago. But maybe I was being cheap. This radio costs about $100, which in hindsight is a fine price to pay for something that works so well, and sounds so terrific. Other things I like: can charge up the radio or run it on batteries; there's a built-in light; there is an easy to use timer; and, there's a clever hook that slides out and attaches radio to the shower head. Yes, you have to pay extra for the charger. which unsurprisingly, I won't do. But I found the otherwise perfect shower radio.
