Some crimes are darker than others
Logan McRae is now working in Professional Standards (aka Internal Affairs in the USA). Though his new position earns him the disdain of his peers, it doesn’t stop him from solving crimes. He investigates the recent death of a DI who had killed himself two years before (it is complicated) and the apparent suicide of a maverick detective who had been working a missing child case. This one is dark because it deals with abducted children. Warning: this is not for the faint-hearted or weak-stomached. Inspector Steele is not a major player in this one and that is a relief. There are plenty of twists and turns and all’s well that ends well——which this one does.

Love Logan McRae
I thought I`d read them all, so imagine my delight to find that Logan & crew were back in a new adventure. I love this mottly crew...& they are all in this book, Logan, Steel, Rennie & even my little favourite Tufty Quirrel! The subject matter of the case is a bit grim but as usual Stuart McBride keeps you reading with his great dialogue. Logan doesn`t seem to do much work for his real department but its great to have him back solving crimes. Oh & its also good to see the weather doesn`t change either. A great read...& another one to come I see :)

A very engaging lead character.
Frankly, I find Logan McRae one of the most disarming and engaging characters in fiction. I think I've read all but one of the McRae novels, and the only one I missed is that I wasn't able to get to England that year! Delighted that Amazon is carrying the series!

Kiddies for Sale
Logan McRae is back dealing with Rennie, Tufty, and Steele, while they cover a baffling case. Kids are being snatched and sold at something called the Livestock Mart. And DI Bell turns up dead in a crashed car. Only didn't he kill himself a while back? This time, he's been stabbed too. There are many twists and turns in this novel that gets better with every page. I recommend this to all the fans of Logan and his cohort.

As with all the Logan MacRae series it is great.
As with all the Logan MacRae series it is great. Read them all so far. Stuart MacBride does a great job of telling the story with all the twists and turns you would expect from MacRae. Great series, keep them coming.

Stuart McBride home runs again.
This is an outstanding series and this book is no exception. What I love about it is often I break out laughing despite the serious theme in it. Actually, it’s beyond me how they get any crime solved, but McRae always dies despite all the help he gets from his “team”. And what a team they are! Sometimes the keystone cops comes to mind. Cannot say enough good things about Stuart McBride and his character Logan McRae. Highly recommended reading but it would be best to start at the beginning so you can meet all the characters.

Vintage Logan McRae Adventure
Yes, I admit it..I am a huge Logan McRae fan! This addition to the series is terrific. It doesn't get an better than this. The characters blundered around in their typical behavior patterns trying to solve horrific crimes. As usual McRae is the hero! This addition to the series has one particular child nearly steal the novel. I just loved that! Will we see this child again? I hope so and look forward to the next in the series which will be out soon!

Read and enjoy
How can anyone describe this as dull, boring, puerile, silly etc; is it distaste for the subject matter? Overworked and understaffed Inspector Logan (!) is given two seemingly simple cases whilst the rest of the constabulary are involved with child abduction, drug raids, a G7 type meeting etc and of course get nowhere and, equally of course, Logan solves the cases and gets injured again. Customary speedy plot, silly nicknames and childish humour what’s not to like? Roll on the next one.

Logan Vs Battleaxe Steele and the dark humour are everything I have come to love about this series. 5*
The Blood Road is the latest in the Logan McRae series. It revolves around the murder of DI Duncan Bell. The only problem is Bell died two years ago and was buried with full police honours. So where has Bell been? And who is currently in his grave?‘Why would Ding Dong fake his own death?’The police are currently under the midst of a media frenzy, due to a local child abduction case. Ellie Morton (4yrs) has gone missing and she becomes the first in a long line of vulnerable kids going missing from Scottish streets. Who is taking these kids? And why?Logan must tackle the Bell case and begins with Bell’s former police partner DS Rose Savage. Coincidentally their last case together was that of a child abduction. Aiden MacAuley (3yrs) went missing and was never seen again.Whilst Logan begins the proceedings to exhume the Bell’s grave. He must also dodge Roberta Steele. Something which is written with brilliant humour, despite the dark themes within the novel.Logan must dig into past cases and risks ruffling the feathers of present police detectives. But to get justice for the victim’s Logan must ask questions. There are various spin-off threads within the novel. The author has a clever way of leading you to believe you have it all figured out, only to pull the rug from under you!I really enjoyed this edition, to an already outstanding series.Logan Vs Battleaxe Steele and the dark humour are everything I have come to love about this series. 5*

Annoying
I’m usually up to date with my favourite author’s books, so I was surprised to find that I hadn’t read this one from Stuart Macbride, 22% in I remember why I had to dump this author. I absolutely HATE the constant stupidity from Rennie, I hate that Logan allows this stupid person anywhere near a crime scene and to ask for him to be made SIO on the death of a colleague is just ridiculous! Don’t get me wrong I understand the need for gallow humour in a thriller book, and other authors have managed this exceptionally well but Mr Macbride takes it too far, this book is about child abductions for goodness sake and just sometimes the writing style has to be adapted to suit. Another gripe of mine is the horrible Steel, what a course, vile creature she is, rude, disrespectful and permanently aggressive. I know I’m in the minority here but please tone down the crass comments.

A gory road.
Yet another triumph. A brilliant read, deserving of the term 'thriller'. The gorgeous Logan bestrides Police Scotland like a colossus. The only sane man around. He is achingly funny, dedicated in the face of incompetency, getting on with job whilst dealing with his team of daft Rennie, even dafter Tufty and the divine monster Steel. It is the rainy season in Aberdeen. Appropriately the skies are weeping because tiny children are being stolen for sale at a paedophile market. Throw in a police officer who dies twice, a demented grieving mother and a bunch of would be A Team heavies trying to be heroes, Logan's by donation weans , weird cat and delectable lady love and you are in for a nerve jangling ride. The usual criminal horrors clutter up the pages and how our lovely Laz survives it all is a tribute to MacBride's superb writing. Not a word or a greasy chip wasted. Couldn't recommend it more.
