No problem putting this together - easy set up and looks great!
I had this dollhouse in my cart for several weeks before placing the order. The reviews talking about the difficulty in putting it together kept me looking for something better. Once the Christmas budget had been decimated on ipad minis, it became apparent that this would be the perfect dollhouse, because it fit what was left of my budget! I figured if I ordered early I would have time to send parts back that didn't fit right. Anyway, to make a long story short, I received the dollhouse yesterday and started putting it together as soon as my daughter went to bed last night. I kept going along in putting it together, waiting for the part where things got hard or didn't line up, but that never happened! I put this together in roughly 45 minutes (a little less if you take out the time it took me to install a flashlight ap on my phone, so that I could see the nut and make sure that it was lined up straight in the hole). Perhaps they have changed the instructions or addressed a quality control issue? Not sure. All I know is that it was super easy for me to put together. One tip is to have a flashlight handy. You drop these little nuts into the pre-drilled holes and you need to be sure that they are facing the right way so that when the other piece goes on and you put a bolt through, the bolt will fit into the nut properly. A flashlight helps with that - I also used the tool that was included to put through ahead of time and make sure that the nut opening was tilted just right. A couple of times it turned a little while I was putting on the piece that I needed to secure and I just had to use a screwdriver to tip it back up a bit. Anyway, just wanted to add this review because I don't want others to be scared off by the negative reviews regarding putting this together. It was a breeze and I couldn't be happier! My daughter is going to love this! ****edited**** Now that we've had this for a few weeks I do have a couple of small complaints... 1) the elevator has come out once. Luckily it was easy to get back in, but I have had to fix it a couple more times since then because an edge was starting to come out again. 2) the elevator does not stay put. It would be nice if the elevator channels had little notches in it - or something that would catch so that the elevator stays put. My daughter (3) plays with it with the roof off and she came up with her own little system - she put a rubber band around the roof pegs and "hangs" her elevator by that. Doesn't really fix it, but she likes the novelty of the elevator going up on it's own. I have a feeling that the elevator will be gone before too much longer. I think her dad can probably build some stairs and attach them easily enough 3) and this is not necessarily the dollhouses fault, but I think this is a little difficult to play with at floor level. My daughter plays mainly with the higher up levels. When she is sitting she can't really reach the bottom level (kitchen?). When we get the chance I'd like to build a little, low shelf for it so that she can reach that room as well. Otherwise I am still very happy with this purchase!

Certainly happy with the decision I made to purchase this one after much research and thought.
Pros: The house is brightly colored, sturdy and easy to move. I love it's gender neutral and is easy for toddlers to move the dolls around in the house. The elevator is adorable and easy to use. My 3 year grandson is playing with Melissa and Doug dolls, Daniel Tiger figures as well as Harp dolls in it. He has the Kidcraft wooden Hero Station and this dollhouse is a perfect addition for fun playtime while at my house. Melissa and Doug wooden dolls are sturdy, cute and easy for toddlers to play with. He also has the Melissa and Doug Professional Wooden Dolls group so he enjoys having a Police Officer, Fireman, Doctor and Chef to pretend with as well. Diffently purchase those as well. They add extra fun. There are several other type professionals as well in the package. Very small Cons: There where 2 areas that they holes where not drilled as they should have been. That slowed down the process of putting it together. I do wish the furniture was a little nicer looking. Although the furniture is sturdy Harp and Kidcraft furniture is nicer. It's big enough that I ordered extra furniture for it anyway. He likes plenty of it for all his characters etc. So really not a big deal. Very happy with purchase!

great dollhouse for toddlers
we bought this dollhouse for my daughter's 3rd birthday. i would normally not ever have thought to get her a dollhouse as she does not play with dolls but prefers dinosaurs, cars, and snakes but our local library has this exact dollhouse and she loved playing with it there. she loves the elevator and likes to put her dinos in the house and make the elevator go up and down. i like that it is an open sided house so she can get to it from 3 sides. it's really great for imaginative play. so far we have several dinosaurs and a few guinea pigs in our house (no people ha ha). we ordered our dollhouse a few weeks before her birthday but did not open it until the weekend before so my husband could put it together. He did not have any issues putting it together and it took him just over an hour. What we did find is our box was missing all three people it was supposed to have and one of the roof pieces did not fit right. I emailed Melissa and Doug on a saturday night and i heard back from their customer service by mid Monday. They asked me to call them and told me what info i would need. I dont think I managed to actually call them until Tuesday which was my daughter's birthday. The rep on the phone was very polite and apologized that our box was missing pieces, took my info and said she would ship out the missing pieces and a new roof panel and it would take about 10 business days. we gave our daughter the dollhouse on her birthday without the people since we knew she probably wouldnt care about the people. we got the missing pieces probably 2-3 days later. so my advice to people is if you are giving this to a child who would care about the dolls just open the box early to make sure you have all the pieces. if you dont the customer service dept at Melissa and Doug is great. no complaints from me. it turns out it wasnt the roof panel that was wrong but we think the pegs on the dollhouse itself that hold the roof panel on are not in the right spot on ours. im guessing we could probably trade in the dollhouse itself to get one that fits right but we kind of dont care. One roof panel is slightly askew. My husband might try to drill it a bit to make it fit better. my daughter really enjoys playing with this dollhouse, i like that it is wood rather than plastic and i like that it is gender neutral and colorful. i also dont know how many dollhouses that have a garage which is kind of fun!

Adorable doll house for a young child. I would buy it again!
I bought this as a Christmas gift for my 2 1/2 year old. This was extremely easy to put together. I suspect in the past every single piece had to be put together, but the one I received I only had to screw the floors to the front piece back piece. The elevator, door, garage...everything else was already assembled. When I read the reviews from the past, it seemed like people complained about having to assemble those pieces; so I think the company has started completing that step to make it easier to assemble. The dolls and furniture are cute and seem well made. I think they will be perfect for a young child. The only reason I gave this four stars is because the garage door kept coming off when it was extended open. The frame was slightly too large for the door. I improvised and put a little piece of plastic in the front part of one of the holes that held the door in and that fixed the issue. UPDATE: I contacted Melissa & Doug regarding the garage door. They sent me a entire replacement front piece for the doll house just to have in case my garage door fix doesn't last. They shipped it quickly to my house and I will just hang on to it, just in case. The customer support at Melissa & Doug is fantastic. Can't say enough good things about this company. That is why I upgraded my review to five stars!

This house is amazing, when can I move in?
Bought this for 4 yo daughter (although my 7 yo son also likes playing with it). It is large enough for 2 kids to play with. You can "design" your own rooms (where do you want the bathroom? bedroom? kitchen? living room?) and the colors are gender neutral and bright. It is high quality and I'm not worried about my kids breaking it. It would NOT be good for Barbies (not that big, and honestly that's the wrong "audience"), but it is good for creative, imaginative, open play. Kids have used the dolls that we got with it (Hape and M&D pieces fit perfectly), but have also used Lego people, Paw Patrol figures, Little People, etc to live in there. Currently the "car" in the garage is Catboy's car. I took an idea from another review and added button LED light onto the ceiling in one room for a "room light"--my daughter was immediately smitten with the idea. Sturdy enough that I can move it from room to room (but I wouldn't want to do it all the time). Is it weird that they get everywhere by elevator? Sure, but honestly it frees up a ton of space in the house and the kids don't seem to notice how weird that is. So, I love it, they love it, and if you are looking for a "play house" then you and your kids might just love it too.

Excellent value for what you get!
Santa brought this to my daughter and she has played with it every day since Christmas. It is nice that the house comes fully furnished. We purchased a wood nursery furniture set from a different mfg on Amazon the size and colors match perfectly. The color scheme is nice since it is bold and gender neutral. It has a lot of pieces, but also lets the kids improvise and do lots of imaginary play. The construction is very durable and high quality. It took me (by myself) about 2 hours to build this on Christmas Eve, the instructions were clear, I just found the screw mechanisms a bit hard to install. Overall, I highly recommend this product.

Great house, with one minor damage. But overall very pleased.
I got this house for my 2,5 year old son. I spent a lot of time comparing this house to the almost identical Hape house. One thing that I did not like about the Hape house, is the "wasted" space on the bottom. Where this house has a garage, the Hape one has a panel, half the height of the garage door, with some trees on it. The space behind the panel cannot really be used for play, unless you use it is basement - storage! : ) My son like the garage option on this house, and I liked that all the space here is used well. I did like the Hape furniture a bit better, but this furniture does what it is meant to do, and of a good quality. House was easy to put together and took me under an hour with my 2,5 year old and 6mo old "assisting". My only complaint is that one of the parts came damaged, and now we have a hole in the floor on one of the levels. It was not significant enough to return the whole thing over it. My son enjoys playing with it, and once my daughter is old enough, it is a good size for them to play together.
