When first introduced in the 1997 Corvette, GM's LS1 engine shook the performance world. Its combination of massive power, light weight and impressive fuel economy set new precedents for performance engines--and continues to do so generation after generation. The latest version, the LS9, makes some 638 hp from just 6.2 liters, far eclipsing even the mightiest big-blocks from the muscle car era--while meeting modern standards for emissions and fuel economy. It’s no wonder, then, that the LSX engines have become some of the most popular for high-performance applications. For those who want to build or modify their LS engine, this book provides the most detailed and extensive instructions ever offered. Whatever your performance goals might be, How to Build and Modify GM LS-Series Engines shows you what modifications are needed and how to make them. Premier LS engine technician Joseph Potak addresses every question that might come up, covering topics including crankshafts and piston assemblies, cylinder heads, camshafts, valvetrain, block modifications, intake manifolds, fuel system, header selection, and setting up ring and bearing clearances for particular uses. In short, this book is the ultimate resource for building the ultimate LSX engine. Good book - very informative
i'm a newbie to the SBC as well as the LS Engines. I think this goes into good detail on how to build your LS engines. It goes into detail about differences between Gen 3 and 4 engines which is nice including the LS7 and LS9 engines. It does dumb it down pretty good for those that don't understand (like myself). It's very complete in the a-z on build-up of a short and long block. It does not go into very low detail and assumes you have some knowledge. I wish the book went more in detail on how to modify. Such as what packages work well, what cams, intakes, porting this or that, or which exhaust manifolds etc. the pictures are very details and the pages thick. good book to add to your library.

Excellent book
If you work on or do mods on your LSx engine, then this book is a must-have, regardless of whether you're a raw novice, a seasoned pro, or a tech who works on these engines for a living. The book has substantial content fitted into the standard Motorbooks format/size, and contains many, many color pictures with detailed explanations and procedures that do not appear in the GM Service Manual. This book can be read either way: from cover to cover, or at random pages, or even backwards; it is layed out very well. The edge of the pages have a color coded section "tab" so you can quickly thumb to the section of interest. I can't put the book down, good job!!

Highly recommended by a picky gearhead
This book is awesome. The pictures are numerous and high-quality color. The substantive content is amazing; the book even contains a year-by-year, highly detailed spec sheet for every LS engine ever produced! The only substantive error I saw was an incorrect bore x stroke = displacement specification for a certain engine, and that error was easy to spot and was probably just a typo. Typos, mispellings and poor grammatical usage are my pet peeve in technical books of this kind. However, only a few of these are scattered throughout the book and I did not find them overly distracting. They did not detract from the excellent and understandable technical content.

LS everything.
Whow what a book, being a diesel mechanic by trade i've seen and read plenty of workshop manuals, but this book has all the information laided out in a logical format, from block to crankshaft and so on, this sounds normal but trust me it's not. The attenion to detail about each component in a LS engine has been a great help, in what to buy for power increase's and what can be left as stardard or stock has been great. I highly recommened this book to anyone who wants to rebuild there own LS engine to produce reliable horsepower or know what potenial they contain. Enjoy Revheads.

Awesome book, incredibly detailed
I bought this book to help me build a monster LS2. When it first came in I sat at my desk for two hours reading everything. I have a bare block without any additional parts so every picture and detailed explanation is greatly needed. I like that they go over a few of the common aftermarket parts such as the Callies products and Eagle crankshafts and the difference in designs. I am using this book in conjunction with another similar book to rebuild this engine and I am fully confident I can get it done without any hiccups. It is also quite interesting to read for the enthusiast as well.

Calidad del producto
Me gusta muchisimo las fotografias con su descripción, muy bien explicado. Lo que me hubiera gustado mas es que incluyera reseñas de los motores 5.3, 6.0 y 6.2.
