In Sabbats, Edain McCoy reveals the eight major holidays of Witchcraft and the many ways in which they are celebrated. There are two basic types of holidays. The first come at the Solstices and Equinoxes. The others divide the time between those dates in two, resulting in eight major holidays or Sabbats with approximately the same amount of days between them. The balance, here, gives the appearance of spokes in a wheel, so this cycle is commonly called the Wheel of the Year. The holidays represent two things. First, the harvest cycle. Each holiday represents a time in the growth of crops. From planting to growth, from harvesting to letting the lands lie fallow in the cold winter, the festivals follow the agricultural cycles of ancient times. However, they also represent the eternal love of the God and Goddess, following the God's birth from the Goddess and his death before she gives birth to him again. This also follows the pattern of the Sun which moves from warm and high in the sky to cold and low in the sky. The book is filled with ways you can follow the Wheel of the Year, whether you work with a coven, with your family, or by yourself. You will learn the secrets of ritual construction and handicrafts appropriate to each of the festivals. You will also learn recipes for traditional foods for each holiday and even songs appropriate to the Sabbats. This is a wonderful, joyous book filled with color, information, and wisdom. If you are involved with Paganism in any way, this book is a must for your studies and practices. This book functions as both a resource and as a practical manual for the celebration of the holidays. I've LOOKEDUP Lots About ORIGINS of people and their history, and what one discovers is that the mysterious ways of the Celtics traditions (among the others in this world) are not giving up their secrets anytime soon. So take a breath and relax into the mystery. It's quite simple; nice actually. Ahhh the moment! That's why I've personally had to cross reference authors and establish trust based on personally experiencing the practices before deciding they arent worth my time. Luckily ( at least based on my own reflection ) I got to experience my spiritual encounters before ever picking up a book to wonder, so I've had to do a lot of accepting in shorts amount of time by having an open mind and looking for similarities. Of course Manly P. Hall would not necessarily agree as hes made it very clear in his pamphlet 'Treatise on Magic' , "don't experiment with. .." I digress, as I've learned much about putting Too much trust in an author simply because of their status. I don't care how "God like" any human becomes, we are all still equal and deserve the chance to struggle and try to succeed. Theres a little bad in the best of us, and a little good in the worst. That being said *(and I speak mainly to the uncertain ones fearfully glaring at the cover art of these god forbidden pagan books from hell ) to do more than research, and really put your faith to the test by actually trying a recommended ritual or meditation. Because why else have u been "called"? Are you not drawn to this "magick" stuff? I sense you might find you are still ok, and that no, Satan won't get you. But if that's too much, then I highly recommend "exploring the pagan path: wisdom from the elders". I feel this book is the book all witches and pagans have been waiting for and not just for the uncertain curious. It's truly a marvel in light of all thats occurring today, and this particular book by McCoy is a must have if one would not just enrich their own life, but the lives of others and the world around them in which they live. This book has lots of information and really useful I will use this book as a guide to gain more knowledge and expand my craft. This book has lots of information on rituals and modern ways to practice I would most definitely recommend this book

I have found "The Sabbats: A New Approach to Living the Old Ways" to be yet another of Edain McCoy's winners!! In my opinion, it is well-written, informative, and instructive on a level that most anyone should be able to understand. Edain McCoy is one of the best writers on pagan subjects around and anyone who is relatively new to paganism, or just studying about it, couldn't do much better for a knowledgeable, sympathetic, and patient teacher. There are many writers of books on this subject out there, but Edain McCoy is one of the very best.

A Wonderful Activity Book for the Pagan/Wiccan Family
My husband and I are very pleased with this book as a "family title". It includes all kinds of crafty celebration ideas, recipes, rituals for the major Sabbats (or Pagan Holidays). It offers several pages on the origins of the traditional celebrations and the historical significance of each. This goes much more indepth than most Pagan/Wiccan books that only mention Sabbats in passing. The activities are group/family oriented and give the reader a few ideas for new (and also steadfastly traditional) ways to celebrate our holidays of the year. Well written and enjoyable for everyone!

Not like the rest
As someone who has read a plethora of books on the subject over the last 30 years, I am shocked that I didn't on this sooner. I adore Edain's work and this is some of her finest. So many tidbits you don't find elsewhere. I was really pleased with the layout and how it reads so differently than most books like it. It is a pleasure to sit down with and in my opinion, and a joy to use for planning Sabbat get togethers for coven work or solitary alike. It's written so pleasantly. Truly, a gem amongst its peers.

Such a good read!
I absolutely love this book. It explains the origins of each one, gives you "things to do or make" for each one. You can tell they genuinely knew and loved the information they were giving you.

Great reference book
Whether you are new to the Wiccan Wheel of the Year or seasoned (no pun intended) this is a great and simple reference book. Even though I have been a practitioner for years I still refer to it because every now and then I find a new touch I can add to my celebration and besides, it's interesting to read. The author is well versed and has other books out there worth checking out.

Edain McCoy spiega ad un profano che cosa sia un Sabba, come si festeggia e perchè. Approfondisce in maniera serena e colloquiale temi anche dibattuti ma non tralascia di insegnare: come preparare gli strumenti per i rituali, come consacrarli e quando.

A mine of information. Brilliant!
This is a fantastic book that covers so much stuff! It briefly explains history, lore and legends without getting lost into too many details, so you have a good understanding of the concepts of the season. Then it moves on to practical tips, ideas, activities, recipes and crafts to bring these concepts to life. McCoy gives you so much to choose from, you're bound to find things you like, with room to make your own versions. Highly recommended!

Love this book
This is a fantastis book for anyone interested in the sabbaths... it's written in a language easy to understand and.doesnt confuse you or put you off with too much "witchy" language. It offers recipes and craftwork for your alter for specific holidays and so much more. I love it. It's a must for anyone looking a little further into Wicca without it going too deep. So glad i bought it x
