Absolutely Life-changing Book!!!
I've been filled with Holy Spirit and THOUGHT I was experiencing a great prayer life and had a pretty good understanding of the benefits of praying in tongues. I had no idea just how much I was totally clueless about! π³π²π€―Brother Roberson's teaching on this subject is exceptional, saturated with scripture, simply taught, yet profoundly deep and enlightening.I'll be forever grateful to the dear friend & brother who introduced me to Dave Roberson Ministries. My life, my walk with the Godhead, and my relationships are forever changed and continues to abound. ππΎπ₯°ππΎ

A truly great read
I just want to start off by saying that am I am definitely not of the Charismatic persuasion. I have some real issue with a lot of the doctrines and teaching of the Charismatic movement. For example, I don't see any biblical precedent for things like Laughing the Spirit, barking like a dog, or being Slain in the Spirit. I've only attend a Charismatic Church a handful of times and have felt incredibly uncomfortable each time. I also witnessed tongues being used improperly. In the book of 1st Corinthians, Paul talks a lot about tongues. He says they should be orderly, one person speaking at a time, and there should always be someone to interpret. The services I've been to violated all of those rules. Numerous people would speak at once, and there was never an interpretation given. It was pretty chaotic. This is an issue that I have done a lot of research on in the past. To be quite honest, I didn't know what to think about the whole Baptism in the Holy Spirit thing. Most of the authors I read (especially John MacArthur) claimed that tongues had ceased and were no longer for today. They also shed light on misuse and abuse that so often occurs today. The friend I went to the Charismatic services with(as far as I know) has never been baptized with the Holy Spirit or spoken in tongues. There were many times when I would pray "Lord, if this is truly of You, I want it" but I would always be disappointed. But there was also an element of fear as well. I didn't want to open myself up to something I didn't fully understand, and that could potentially be dangerous. I've done that in the past and paid dearly for it. But I would also read authors who talked about the Baptism of the Holy Spirit. They had intense passion for God, and seemed to have victory and power that I didn't. I felt torn, and didn't know what to believe. I eventually got frustrated and just let it drop. I knew almost nothing about the whole idea of a private prayer language. I wasn't convinced the idea of Baptism in the Holy Spirit or a private prayer language was even Biblical. I had no experience with either one.But then last week, I went to a prayer meeting with a group of ladies who started talking about being Baptized with the Holy Spirit and using a private prayer language. I thought praying in tongues meant being loud, and quite frankly weird. They told me it had made a huge difference in their lives. But I told them that not all Christians speak in tongues and that I wasn't sure the idea of a prayer language was biblical. Fortunately, they didn't push me and let it go. But I have to admit, I was definitely curious. I thought I'd resolved this issue a long time ago, but this experience at the prayer group brought it back to the forefront. I was confused and intrigued all at the same time. So I decided to do some more research. I honestly don't even remember what I searched on my Kindle. But anyway, I came across this book. I ordered a sample, and was very impressed. I ordered the full book. All I can say is wow. This book does an excellent job of explaining tongues and the Baptism of the Holy Spirit. He explains it in a way that is easy to understand and acknowledges that tongues are often abused today. I always thought there was just one type of tongues, but Roberson argues there are 3 Tongues for personal edification (also called a private prayer language) Tongues in a church service, and tongues for intercession. Roberson explains all 3 very well and uses Scripture to support each of them. Reading this book made me realize that I had made a lot of false assumptions about speaking on tongues. This book helped me to put my fears to rest and to see the whole issue from a new perspective. I became very hungry for the Baptism in the Holy Spirit. Not every Christian has the spiritual gift of speaking in tongues, but Roberson says (and I came to agree) that every Christian can have a prayer language if they so desire. Before reading this book, I didn't even really know what it mean to have a personal prayer language, much less the benefits. One of my biggest fears in regards to tongue was that it would make me weird, that I would begin to pray in tongues at inappropriate tongues, or that I would no longer be able to pray in English. But Roberson makes it clear that NONE of that is true. Each person can choose to pray in tongues (otherwise known as a private prayer language) or not to. The Holy Spirit gives you the words, but it is up to the individual to speak them. The Holy Spirit won't bypass your free will. If you don't want to pray in tongues, you don't have to. Even if you do choose to pray in tongues, you can still pray in English. (or whatever your native tongue happens to be) Or you can switch back and forth between the two. You can also choose how much you choose to pray in tongues. You can pray in tongues as little or as much as you want.Reading this book created in me a profound hunger for the Baptism of the Holy Spirit. I've prayed to be baptized by the Holy Spirit in the past, but nothing ever happened. I realize now that a lot of misinformation and fear was holding me back. I read this book in one night. As I was lying in bed, I prayed a very simple prayer asking for the Baptism of the Holy Spirit. It wasn't anything fancy or profound. But God answered, with evidence of speaking on tongues. This was a completely new experience for me. Roberson makes it clear that no Christian HAS to pray in tongues. He merely shares his experiences and how the practice has blessed him personally. If you have struggled with and questioned the validity of the Baptism of the Holy Spirit, or whether a private prayer language is biblical, then you need to read this book. This book will help you deal with any fears, misinformation, myths, or roadblocks you may have. I've read quite a few books on the subject of tongues and the Baptism of the Holy Spirit, and this is one of the best. If you let it, it will completely change your life. It will help you to go deeper with God and take your faith to a whole new level. If you find yourself thinking that there has to be more to the Christian life than what you're experiencing, then do yourself a favor and read this book. You will never be the same.

Life saving book from God - I am a testimony!
I had been seeking God for His purpose for my life. Oddly, instead of finding that purpose, I was being led to teachings and books on tongues which I rejected as unscriptural back then.Only on hindsight I made the strong connection: The way to my God-given purpose is by praying in tongues. After I had learnt of this gift of God and began giving very specific time to praying in tongues and in understanding also, things began to move fast (when compared to ONLY praying in understanding before that). Now as I look back, I am so much into doing the fulfilling works of God that come with much provisions since He who calls He shall also equip.Of the many books on tongues that I read, I personally find this the very best and the only one that I need to go back to again and again. It's always refreshing to re-read it and to even see new things. This book so resonated with my spirit and answered MOST questions I always had in addition to that on finding one's life purpose mentioned above. I will give just one example:Before I started praying in tongues, salvation for my parents seemed so far-fetched. Prayers in understanding had been regularly offered by me, my ex-Church's sincere leaders and fellow believers that did not believe in tongues. Attempts to convince my family members of my belief always backfired. I honestly saw no result or the slightest change for 6 full years. After I was led to attend a Spirit filled Church and read this book that changed my perspective, I began to pray in tongues regularly and very specifically for my parents' salvation (time was short as I saw them ailing in health). And guess what, suddenly the mountains just moved and both my parents (& other extended family members one by one) came to Christ! It literally became easy and fast with prayers in perfect tongues or divine mysteries of God when compared to those previous labouring in prayers with very limited understanding! The suddenlies of God began within the year of me praying fervently in tongues very regularly! "Suddenly" doors of their hearts were opened, suddenly I got the divine opportunities and wisdom to speak into their hearts. Suddenly, I found myself having love I never had for my parents and doing things for them willingly - the relationship that was distant for 2 decades improved supernaturally.Suddenly, I heard my extended family members talking about their friends, teachers or classmates sharing the gospel with them and inviting them to Church. I was awestruck! Christianity was no longer a religion or cliche, God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit became real to me, His word too began to come alive. There are other progressive changes in finances, health and my walk with God after praying in tongues...all taught in this book which is made free by the selfless author - this can only be God! I bought the paperback copy some years ago, now I started using kindle app, so recently i got this soft copy version for easy access on my mobile. Anyway, his website has the printable version and other small booklets on other subjects too, all FOC. God sure delights in this generous soul that blesses His peoples tremendously!

Probably good teaching, IF you speak in tongues
This book is for Christians who speak in tongues; the author assumes this all the way through. There is an appendix at the end which lists hindrances to receiving this gift - but it is assumed that you bought the book because you already have it, and want to learn more about it.The first few pages were fine, even quite inspiring. But it wasn't long before I started to have misgivings. (Excuse the list.)1. The author frequently uses the term "the Holy Ghost". This is really more of an irritation than a misgiving. He refers to "the Holy Spirit" as well, and I assume he believes that they are the same person, although this isn't always clear.2. As I said, he assumes that the reader speaks in tongues, there is no advice for those who don't have this gift, or have questions about it.For myself, I can't speak in tongues. I am certain that the gift exists and is for today; I have asked to receive it, and haven't. This used to bother me a lot, and I'm certain the devil was happy with that - he could focus my attention on my disappointment, and hint that I wasn't good enough to receive it. Now, however, I am sometimes glad that I don't have this gift, as I can focus on God and not on a dramatic gift. I believe absolutely that tongues are important, beneficial, may help the believer communicate with God and release his power. But I refute the implication that anyone who does not pray in tongues does not know their gift or calling or is just "playing" at it.3. I am certain there are more than 9 gifts of the Spirit. Reference is only made to 1 Corinthians 12 and Ephesians 4. What about Romans 12 and 1 Peter 4 ? What about the OT, where the Lord says that he was specifically giving gifts of craftsmanship to people so the ark of the covenant could be built? We are created by God and in his image. Why would an awesome, all sufficient, diverse God limit himself to having only 9 gifts?4 The devil may well tell us that tongues don't exist or are not for today, but he can also counterfeit this gift. Nothing is said about this.I tried to stifle these misgivings for a while and read the rest of the book. But I soon came across Roberson's belief that God does not want us to be either sick, or poor, and we should be able to defeat both, and the misgivings became alarm bells - loud ones. I do not agree at all with such a teaching; the implication is that Christians who are either sick, or poor, are not demonstrating true faith or glorifying God. I had enough of that teaching when I was ill with M.E, and some people said I would never be healed with so little faith. Well guess what? God did heal me and I still believe it. What's more, I learned a great deal during those 18 years and wouldn't change them. There doubtless is some good teaching in this book -about persevering in prayer, for example , but I'm afraid that these issues were enough to make me skim read the rest of it. If I start to speak and pray in tongues, I may get back to it. In the meantime, however, I will probably delete this from my Kindle.

Dare Christians write bad reviews?
Theologically I found this book to be based on good and practical teaching. But for me I found it just a little on the heavy and hard to read side, - 6 pages where 2.5 may well have covered the points just as easy.I would speculate if a lot of this is reproduced sermon material. Again nothing wrong with that. The lack of stories and anecdotes again made reading something of a chore at times. However I am grateful to God that we have the freedom in the UK to criticise fellow believers with out fear of recrimination or worse.Plus that such a wealth of resources are freely available to us.These are my personal views and opinions and I respect those that may have said different.
