The Finest Wines of Germany: A Regional Guide to the Best Producers and Their Wines (Fine Wine Editions)

A Valuable Addition to my Wine Book Collection
This book is part of a Fine Wine Series of Books. This is the first book of the series which I have purchased as most of the other wine areas / countries which have been written about have been well covered by other books. (In this regard I look forward to a book on Portuguese table wines, which to my mind are very poorly covered by existing wine books). This book is well edited, has high quality paper, photos, binding and is of a smaller dimension suitable for casual picking up and putting down. The book focuses on the best producers from the main wine areas of Germany in the opinion of the writer - some Mosel producers in particular which in my opinion make some of Germany's finest wine are not included here. Never mind that is not the reason why the book does not warrant 5 stars. The maps of the wine areas are on a regional scale - I constantly tried to refer to the maps to find the location of a village / town mentioned in the text but to no avail. Additional more detailed maps would have greatly enhanced the book...enough to warrant that 5th star.

Interesting and informative
This review is two-fold. Firstly , the seller did a first- rate job of filling my order! The book itself is very informative, quite interesting for anyone interested in the science involved in wine producing. Being somewhat of a neophyte , I have learned quite a bit from this publication and have already found and tried some of the wines from vineyards mentioned within!

Not Enough Info
Finding good books about German wine is hard. They really do not exist. The information in this book is good-but there is not enough of it.. To be really great this book would need to be at least twice as long as it is and cover many more producers than it does. A half-step in the right direction when two full steps were needed.

Intelligently conceived and written
The only weakness is that the wine reviews of almost each producer are very limited and only from recent tastings.

Updated info on the current state of wines in Germany
needed updates on wine from the greatest white wine producing country on earth. Cannot top a German riesling from a quality producer and the author highlights many of them.

A complete choise
This book is a good choise to learn about germany wines with history, terroir, classification, regions and producers, but the author could write more about the wines of each producer.

An invaluable book for lovers of German wine
Do not expect Reinhardt's book to be a comprehensive encyclopedia of all German wines and districts. It is though an excellent overview of present day wine-making and wine makers, written for those of us lucky enough to have an interest in German wine already. It takes in, as the book's title suggests, just a few of the finest examples of this countries' very underated and misunderstood wines and their makers. For once, the book introduces the producers by name and with informal photo portraits to make it a more human experience. It is clearly compiled for those who wish to expand their understanding and experience of this delightful subject - it is a door opener to wider appreciation and discovery, not an end in itself. Enthusiasts should not hesitate in getting a copy of this invaluable and well presented book.

A 'finest' wine book
An excellent introduction to Germany's wines. Beautifully written and illustrated, it is a great addition to the series.

Must for German wine lover
Focus on description of selected weigut , will be more interesting to see if the tasting was more comprehensive

OK regional guide to fine wines of Germany
Perhaps a good guide to regional wines is hard to produce and this is no exception. There are lots of facts, but it is hardly riviting reading and there is nothing equivalent for tasting the wine.
