The treatment is not a surface coating; the entire stone is treated, which means that even if the stone is cut down to a smaller size, it will still retain the whiter color. Charles and Colvard Forever Brilliant® Moissanite’s are grown in a laboratory setting and are not mined. Moissanite gemstones are actually more brilliant and have more fire than diamonds. On the Mohs scale, a diamond is rated to have a hardness of 10 Mohs, while a Moissanite is nearly the same at 9.25 Mohs. Moissanite gemstones have a VS-2 clarity with no visible flaws.
