Digitally re-mastered 21st anniversary edition.Perfectly capturing the wit of P.G. Wodehouse's novels, this impeccable series traces the insane shenanigans of Bertram Wooster and his faithful butler Jeeves. Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie are simply perfect in the roles of the steadfast butler Jeeves and his dapper master Wooster. Set against a 1930s backdrop of Hooray Henries and splendidly indomitable aunts, Jeeves battles against Wooster's relentless list of prospective brides to hilarious consequences! This is a simply enchanting series which has been digitally re-mastered and with over 19 hours will not fail to entertain.

Delightful
An absolutely wonderful adaptation of P.G.Wodehouse's stories about the wealthy layabout Bertram Wilberforce Wooster and his personal Gentleman's Gentleman, Jeeves. Or, that is to say, while Jeeves and Wooster are the central characters in every episode, the real story is as much about the peculiar mores of well-to-do society in England in the 1920s and 1930s, as conjured up by Wodehouse with impressive doses of warmth, humor and keen insights into human psychology. It all clicks, from the introductory jazzy tune by Anne Dudley and the accompanying art deco animation, which immediately tells us where we are in time and style, to the simply brilliant casting of Stephen Fry as Jeeves and Hugh Laurie as Wooster. Fry glides through the scenes, amused and totally in control (except when Jeeves is confronted by unexpected and ungentlemanly wardrobe choices), while Laurie gets most of the lines and can ham it up as the amiable and essentially generous and decent Bertie Wooster, who, while clearly one of more intelligent members of the Drones Club, is nevertheless not quite as clever as he imagines himself to be, and inevitably will require the supreme manipulative abilities of Jeeves in order for everything to sort itself out by the end of each episode. The story will very often turn around an engagement, either due to the machinations of one of Bertie's aunts and their desire to see him married off (and Bertie's desperate and not very well thought out plans to avoid the intended fate) or a similar predicament involving one or more of his fellow members of the Drones Club (and Bertie's not very well thought out plans to assist his friend). The 23 episodes are collected in four series of two DVDs each. One mildly irritating bit is the inability of the producers to retain the actors playing the various recurring characters from one series to the next, with the exception of Fry and Laurie. Recurring characters like Gussie Fink-Nottle, Madeline Basset, Cyril "Barmy" Fotheringay (Fungy) Phipp or Bingo Little reappear with different actors playing the parts, which is a minor letdown in that it makes it slightly harder to immerse oneself in the universe, being constantly reminded that these are just actors. But that is a niggling and decidedly minor quibble. Otherwise the evocation of the time period, the sets, actors and entire production gets it all right. In the middle Laurie and Fry inhabit their characters perfectly, and suffusing everything is the crisp and simply supreme dialogue written by P.G. Wodehouse. The image and sound is excellent, but there is no extra material on the DVDs. You get the series and that's it. But what a marvelous series.Highly recommended

What ho!
I say Jeeves, some chap has gone and and popped a set of TV progs about me onto some of these bally old DVDs. What jolly cheek! I've never even met the blighter. Have you seen them? Are they any good, will they be spinning in their seats at the Drones?Well Sir, I have indeed. It was with some approbition that I embarked upon the perusal of this set of digital video disks. It had occurred to me that Mr. Fry may not appear, in some circles, to be ideally cast as the Gentleman's Gentleman, due to his apparent nescient lack of experience in the capacity of such a position. Additionally his stature may seem somewhat incommensurate to some with such a position as a gentleman's valet. However, having viewed the series of television programmes, upon reflection I would be inclined to proffer the opinion that this does not appear to be the case. Mr. Fry performs the role most admirably and has gained the respect of many for his munificent rendering of the role.Mr. Laurie was never in doubt as an ideal candidate for the role of Mr. Wooster. Those of us who have previously viewed Mr. Laurie on the television may cast our minds back to his superb performance as King George in Blackadder III, in which his faultless interpretation of a bumbling fool is widely applauded. It has been observed that the episodes do not portray the comical vignettes with the pedantic rendition and exactitude that true officianadoes of the Wodehouse genre of humorous literature may have preferred, however as a televisual diversion it is highly amusing. The combination of Messrs. Fry and Wooster as the central characters is highly appropos, and the scenic rendition is without fault. It is highly regrettable that when the director concluded the series he did not extend his attentions to the Blandings series. Richard Briars would perform admirably in the role of the Earl of Ickenham were it bestowed on him, not least because of his experience in the Good Life of quadrupeds of the genus Sus and in particular the domesticated variety scrofa. Penelope Keith would no doubt excel if cast as Lady Constance though I fear that there is an element of truth in the rumours that she is in fact of a lower class than a lady of a landed Shire family. It has also occured to me that a bespectacled David Walliams would delight audiences as Rupert Baxter. To summarise, this collection of is one of televison preogrammes is of the highest calibre, and I would deem it a great shame if the opportunity to view them were foregone.Would that be all sir?

What ho! Forty-seven ginger-headed sailors!
Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie seem to have been born just to portray Jeeves and Wooster (seriously, I see their faces whenever I read a Jeeves story). I cannot believe how well Clive Exton adapted Wodehouse's books onto the little screen (except for series four), and Anne Dudley's theme sets the tone perfectly. The crew, too have done their jobs well in recreating Wodehouse's 1920s and 30s, with excellent sets, costumes, and music selections for Wooster to play.Granada Ventures' release of the complete series blows A&E's release out of the water. This is the collection to have. With the interactive and stylish menu, a play-all button, and subtitles, life is good... I just wish they didn't force you to watch that anti-piracy thing at the beginning of EVERY disc (there are eight discs!). Of course, it would be even better if they provided a synopsis of the episodes, even a descriptive title like "Jeeves Saves the Cow Creamer" (the only thing A&E did right). I mean, "Series Two, Episode One" is hardly helpful.Okay, as near as I can figure with this programme, actors change. Often. It seems the only actors to remain constant are Stephen Fry (Jeeves, duh), Hugh Laurie (Wooster, duh), and Robert Daws (Tuppy Glossop). Scheduling can't always be helped, but it's okay. It can get confusing sometimes, but once you figure out who's who, it no longer matters and the farce continues. However, because television networks can be fickle, it appears that Clive Exton used up the good bits in the first two series. He takes some liberties in series three (it's okay), and lots of liberties in series four (...). Nevertheless, with a few "selective omissions", this rates five stars. More than five stars. And yes, I think Wodehouse would have approved this adaptation.

These were sold as used dvd but besides a little wear and tear on the DVD box it’s tough to tell that it’s was pre owned. Very quick shipping all the DVDs are in great working condition.

delicieusement british...

Wodhouse

Favolosamente fedele all'originale
