You must remove the ballast or rewire for direct wire application. No ballast required
My only complaint with the product is that I had to rewire the cabinet for direct wire application. But other than that quality is very good and very bright.

All four lights defective and one started smoking
Lights do not work. When they all stopped working, I noticed smoke and discovered that one appeared to be smoking/was scorched inside the bulb fixture. This happened to four separate bulbs and two different light fixtures.

Great replacement for HO style bulbs
Replaced old HO style lights in local church sign, worked great, plus I was able to rotate the bulb to direct light forward. Just wire around the ballast and snap bulbs in.
