Not very water resistant.
I bought four of these in June and really like their appearance and the way they cast light in my garden. But we had an unseasonal rainstorm here in northern California in late June and one of them has become intermittent. Most of the time it will not turn on at night but if I give it a rap it does turn on. After a couple weeks of this I opened the electronics to see if there was any obvious moisture but found nothing. I removed the battery to tighten the contacts then put everything back together. It worked fine for a few days but then resumed the intermittent behavior. Now when the light turns on it is dim, as if the battery is undercharged or the contacts are bad. Maybe a section of the photocells has shorted out but it probably isn't worth the trouble to try to fix it. I wonder what will happen in the winter season when we get frequent rain storms but still use the gardens. We would like to have year round utility; if they continue to fail I'll have to rate the product lower. I'll try to remember to update this after we get some winter rains.Update March 2016: We love the lanterns but they don't hold up to winter rain in Santa Rosa. We have four hanging on posts around a spot in our back garden and we get about 2 years out of one before it dies. I've opened them up and the problem is corrosion- water gets inside and rusts the battery, connectors and parts of the control circuit. I suppose I could try sealing everything with silicone but that seems quite a bother. The problem is we really want the lights in winter when the nights are long, but that is our rainy season. Probably will give up on them after this latest round of replacements

This was an awesome addition to any motif really this is a great and beautiful little solar lantern which really did the trick on accenting my curtains it’s like to the touch and it turns on with a very heavenly kind of dim light which adds a lovely affect indoor or outdoor but if you’re going to put it out to her and make sure that it’s covered because it’s not waterproof. Make sure that you put it out in the sun each day if it’s indoors it will stay on for a full eight hours

great looking day or night
I picked up a 4 of these many years ago and when two of them finally died. I was looking for replacements and came back to these, purchasing 4 more. They create a nice pattern on the deck at night and look good duting the day as well.

Love this lamp
Such a clever idea! using solar to light this lamp. Tyvek definitely makes this durable and long lasting. The pattern is lovely. I've had this for years and it still works. I have this hanging in a solarium where it gets charged all day long and gives off its lacy patterned light for hours at night, especially in summer when days of light are longer.

MADE by BROOKSTONE. I have to say they can really take a beating. I bought mine 4 or 5 years ago, and years later I just had to replace 2 out of 5 batterys in my 5 lanterns. They've been rained on, baked by the sun, blown across the yard in our yearly santa ana winds (when they swung off the hooks I had them mounted on) and they still hold a charge like no other solar lantern I've ever purchased. At night I don't think you can really tell the difference in color-but I've only bought the bronze and white. The new red could be promising..update 8-13-2015..The new ones I bought are very cheap and not made the way they were 4-5 years ago. The batteries have rusted and/or just stopped working-I recommend not wasting your money

Bought 2. Brought to caribbean, only 1 worked.
These lanterns are cool (I already had 2 and hang them from my boat for perfect after dinner light). BUT recently I bought two more (individually packaged) and brought them with me to the caribbean. One worked great but the other wouldn't hold a charge and neve lit up for more than 1-2 seconds. Of course I didn't want to cart the thing all the way home on a vacation so I through it out and and can't return it. Real bummer on our vacation though as never night we had a single lantern hanging from one side of the boat. Check that yours work AND that they stay lit for 1+ min in the dark.

Bronze lantern glows a cool BLUE
If you're going for a warm lantern light, steer clear. The bronze lantern is lined with a cool grey color and the LED is blue. I find blue light to be harsh and not cozy at all. They've been making warmer LEDs for years now, I wish Allsop would change the color of the bulb they use. Also, I found the assembly pesky as the ends of the inner support wire tend to catch on the Tyvek perforations. Can't speak to durability as they just went up today. I think all the Allsop lanterns are really beautiful designs. Seems like if they could make them more durable and change to a warmer light, they'd really be hitting it out of the park.

One of the Best Solar Lanterns Out There
I have purchased and used a lot of solar lanterns, and this is one of the best. It's lightweight, easy to assemble, and didn't have any setup complications such as "Remove the four small screws in the lid and turn the switch to On." (This was the case with at least three of the lanterns I purchased. Two were returned because the "small screws" were so jammed in that I couldn't get them out to turn the light on.) The lamp emits a lot of light compared to other solar lanterns I've purchased. The perforated shade makes pretty patterns on the deck below. I'm very happy with it.
