My favorite hair dye. Bright and vibrant, lasts a few weeks.
I have been buying Arctic Fox hair dye for a couple of years and keep returning to it due to its reliability and long-lasting colors for a semi-permanent dye. I've had different experiences with the different colors, having tried purple rain (now discontinued), virgin pink, and sunset orange colors. I will focus this review primarily on my experience with the virgin pink variety, as it is the one I purchased from this site and the one I am including photos of, but I will briefly touch on the other colors later in this review. I absolutely love the shade of virgin pink! It is a bright, electric pink. I lightened my hair to a level 8-ish light blonde using the bleach kit by Arctic Fox beforehand (not included with dye purchase). I found this to be a suitable level to start with, as I've tried dyeing over "virgin" (unbleached) brown hair before and the color didn't show up very well, though with a lighter brown I would assume that the pink would still show up, though perhaps not as vibrantly. The pink dye did temporarily stain my sink and some skin, but I was able to completely remove it from all surfaces using acetone-based nail polish remover for solid surfaces and oil-free makeup remover for skin. I only dyed the bottom half of my just-longer-than shoulder-length hair, and I used the whole 8oz bottle of dye. My hair is also pretty thick, so even after dividing it into 4 sections and applying dye to one section at a time, I had to be careful to make sure all strands were coated with the dye. When I've dyed my hair before, I don't remember using that much dye, so it's possible that I overdid it and possible that I dyed less hair in the past, but using the whole bottle seemed to achieve the shade I wanted and evenness I wanted this time around. While my hair was dyed, my hair care routine consisted of washing my hair about 2 times per week. I am fortunate enough that I did not require more than this. I used Arctic Fox shampoo and conditioner, purchased separately. For the first few weeks, I only applied the conditioner (no shampoo) to the ends, where the dye was concentrated. With the virgin pink variety, I could visibly see the water run pink in the shower each time I washed my hair, and the color did fade over time. I had no issues with dye staining the shower. I only once had dye stain a towel, and it washed out with regular detergent and oxygen bleach (note: oxygen bleach is not the same as standard laundry bleach). The week after dyeing my hair pink I spent a substantial amount of time hiking in full sun exposure, and the color appears even more vibrant in the sun. I did have some dye bleed onto the neck of a couple of shirts due to sweat that week, but it all washed out, again using detergent and oxygen bleach. I would not count on dye washing out of fabric, and I think I was lucky in this regard, but it's worth noting that I didn't have a problem with minor amounts of dye washing out of clothes when treated quickly, and this only happened that first week of having it dyed. It lasted about 2.5 months between when I first dyed it and when it had faded back to blonde (almost) entirely. It did not fade evenly. Personally, I did not mind this, and I liked the pink/blonde look. By my rough estimates, my hair was "completely pink" for 4 weeks and "mostly pink/some blonde" between weeks 4 and 7. It faded more rapidly after that, washing out each time I washed my hair, and I decided to redye my hair a different color after 13 weeks, at which point there were still a few pink streaks but my hair was mostly back to the bleached shade. I had a similar experience with purple rain (now discontinued) in terms of vibrancy and how long it lasted. After the virgin pink I tried sunset orange color and it's far surpassed the others in terms of duration. I am going on 4 months with sunset orange and it's still even and obvious. I have maintained the same hair care routine with the orange that I did with the pink, and the only difference that I can think of is that my hair was pink during the summer and orange during the fall/winter. Unsure if the season had an effect or if the orange is just longer-lasting. Either way, I was pleased with my experience with virgin pink and would purchase again. I would recommend this brand and color.

Well I’ll be damned (ps this is long but very infotmative)
Starting this off with my hair is in the type 4 category and I wash my hair once a week. I usually use demi-permanent hair color from Sally’s. It’s get my hair black don’t get me wrong but I mean this color is BLACK. It’s a blue based black and my god does it stain stuff when it washes out, my tub was massacred (fun fact, spray sunscreen will get dye out of countertops and bathtubs with enough patience and rubbing). It got on my skin and I looked beaten and bruised. Hated the smell but it’s sweet like bubblegum and chemicals. I saw all these comments about they staying power and was like well damn. Saw another beautiful lady say how she leaves it on her hair all day long just for it to keep its color longer and I thought I did not have the patience or will power to do that. So in my great beautiful stupid brain, I looked at the instructions and saw you could use heat and thought now what if I use heat for longer than it says? Dear lord. I probably left it in my hair for like an hour? I would heat it and let it cool then heat it again because I knew it was going to “fade” faster than demi. It bleeds like sucker. When I first washed it out I was amazed at the pigment but then the novelty wore off and it would still bleed. It’s been 5 months and my hair is still black, like you would naturally assume it’s my actual hair color. You can barely tell the difference between my new growth and the color unless you are all up in my business which please don’t be. It’s not the intense black that it was when it was freshly dyed but she’s still there. She still bleeds but it’s hardly noticeable. Part of me wants to dye my hair again for that intense black but the reality is my hair genuinely does not need it. I’m gonna be real honest with yall and say I do not know if or when it will come out. Side note, I did not use all of the dye and in fact use it to dye my eyebrows. I’ve been using Just For Men since 2016 but this has a lot better staying power. Just make sure to lay a base of Vaseline or something on the skin around and on your eyebrow throughly. Leave it on for no longer than 15 minutes if you’re really brave or you will have stained your skin black. Washing my face helps with that and it fades it a good bit but by the next day it’s gone. Overall 10/10 experience but maybe don’t be like me.

Easy to Use, Definitely Not Permanent, Cute, Fades Well!
This is so easy to use and such a gorgeous color! As someone who has never dyed my own hair (beyond the shampoo dye that you basically just lather all over your head in the shower), this was pretty straightforward and turned out so cute! I will say that it faded pretty fast for me, but I was in the world’s most chlorinated pool and the lake several times only a couple weeks after dying it. I bought the Periwinkle shade, and it did turn out more blue than the color on the front of the bottle, but when you look at the guide to see what the results will look like based on your base hair color, it was actually very accurate. I have medium length, slightly buttery platinum ends and light brown/dark blonde/level 7 roots with super fine straight hair and a lot of it, and one bottle was JUST enough to cover my whole head. If you have long hair I would imagine you’d need more than one bottle. It smells kind of like grape soda or something similar, but in a pleasant way. So far it has faded mostly blue-to-silver, with a bit of aqua-ish woven throughout, but not quite green, so that’s good! Definitely recommend Arctic Fox and I can’t wait to try more colors!

Gorgeous color but have some reservations about the new packaging and formula
Love this color! Finally a cool-toned dark blue that won't fade green! I've been mixing a similar color myself but it took like 4 different shades. I still added about 3 drops of Transylvania and a decent squirt of Purple AF to make it a bit darker and more of an electric indigo shade, as I needed to cover my double-process bleached and toned overgrown roots, the faded patchy blurple from my previous mix, and some weird lavender spots on my ends where the toner from my last bleaching sessions took a little too strongly. It covered everything perfectly except for a mini band where I didn't want to overlap where I'd previously bleached toward the front of my head, as I'm a natural level 2 with super healthy compact cuticles and it requires multiple lifts just to get to a level 7/8. I waited 2 days after bleaching (and deep conditioning) to wash my hair and let it air dry before coloring and as usual with Arctic Fox my hair feels healthy and back to normal. I like the tube format but wish it came with a key to avoid product waste as the metal is thicker than even some of my medication tubes and won't flatten and push the product toward the opening on a countertop edge like some other metal tubes do. Sorceress and the other colors I've seen in the new packaging is a bit thinner in consistency than OG colors in the plastic bottles but I personally like the thinner formula as I have very thick hair and it helps make sure I can fully saturate every strand. I only hope at this point that the change to make it thinner doesn't alter the strength of the color and make it fade faster or stain my tub and towels. I wish they'd gone with a full 6oz tube, especially for the price, as opposed to 5.6oz, as I need 4oz to cover my short thick blunt bob (with full undercut - I have a ton of hair) and still need leftovers to add to conditioner. I also have some concerns about the colors possibly changing over time inside the metal tubes, especially once opened. The one downside of Sorceress is that the grey hairs I have in my undercut - which are actually white and I love them and can't wait till I'm 100% white - don't take the color but stand out even MORE and look even whiter/brighter against my near-black hair. This also means my colored conditioner (I do at least 50%-66% dye mixed into the conditioner or else it won't stick and looks pastel, especially if applying to damp hair) which might tint my roots a teeny bit when they grow in - I dunno if it will show up on level 2 hair at all but I doubt it. However it DOES mean it will brighten my white/grey roots so they're even more noticeable. I think that Sorceress would make a great toner if diluted for those of us with very dark hair lifting to a 7/8 to neutralize the yellow-orange tones whereas most traditional toners are either temporary like shampoos/conditioners or require hair to be a level 10 to work properly.

Soft, shiny, and just the color I needed.
I had recently gotten my hair colored at a salon to be a dark cherry cola using a demi-permanent solution. Absolutely loved it, but I want the color to pop a bit more until the next appointment later down the line (in this economy? it’ll be a while lol). Mixing this shade - Ritual - with some conditioner (plain white kind) was just the solution I needed as a weekly helper. I just added a few good squirts down into the bottle and shook it/mixed it really well. After shampooing, I lathered it in and combed it through to get every strand, covered it with a shower cap to finish showering (left it in for maybe 10 minutes or less), and then rinsed it with cool water. I know Arctic Fox’s line of semi-permanent colors are very gentle, but it paired with the conditioner I use made it feel so silky smooth. I used to use a lot of their purple and violet shades in the past to do this same thing with platinum blonde hair to keep brassy tones at bay without always using toners with developers to minimize damage. Worked really well, so I knew this would do the trick. Just that little bit was enough to make it pop again. Love it. I’ll be grabbing another bottle in the near future to keep on hand because it’s more affordable (compared to paying for conditioners that do similar pushing double the price), smells great, and the color is lovely with just the right amount of red hues without being TOO red. I highly recommend the Ritual shade if anyone is looking for a deep wine-colored tone that stands out. NOTE: If you end up doing this type of mixture like I did as a refresher, but you go to a stylist for coloring, be sure to let them know beforehand so they’ll know you added a semi-permanent color conditioner mixture on top of it (as they often use demi). It’s obviously a vegan formula that is safe without any harsh chemicals that washes out easier where most will do their own coloring at home using this bottle and be done, but your stylist still needs to know since you’re essentially adding a stain to the hair on top of the color that they used that penetrated the hair cuticle using demi-permanent dyes. That way if you ever want to change your color up or even refreshen everything and do root touch ups, they’ll know exactly what needs to be done to get you that color by knowing what is put on the hair.

Grey toning
I've been using this dye for about 3 months. I have some grey, and my hair is brown but on the lighter side. I try to use it every 2 to 4 weeks, apply and leave in for 2 hours. Over time it has toned my greys so that they arent as stark white, and blend better into my natural hair. It hasn't changed the color of the rest if my hair. My goal was to add some pigment to my whites which it does but it takes several applications and you have to keep using it because it does wash out. So in short it will not give you a drastic change unless your hair is bleached very blonde, and for grey coverage you are going to need several applications. I wouldn't call it coverage but more of a toning effect, which is what I was looking for.

Vibrant color for a week with tub/linen stains that last forever.
I bought the color "Ritual" and loved the color. I have black curly hair and usually colors don't show up well on mine. This time I decided to bleach my hair first and then dye it a week later for dramatic effect. It was my first time using this dye. I like how it's a direct dye and I didn't need developer or anything else. I kept it on a full hour with a shower cap. As other reviews have said, be careful to wear gloves and cover any surfaces you don't want to get stained with dye. In that way it's pretty powerful. The color looked good and showed up on my hair nicely, especially because my hair was lightened prior. I want to emphasize that the dye will stain most surfaces easily. Please be careful to wash your hair in a stainless steel sink or something that the dye won't penetrate so easily. I rinsed my hair in the sink u til it ran clear. I completely dried my hair and was able to sleep without staining my pillow (as instructions mentioned). The next day I washed my hair with shampoo/conditioner in the stainless sink again and was surprised how much more dye came out. Again I rinsed the shampoo and conditioner out until the water ran clear. I was satisfied I would be able to wash my hair in the shower without staining it for future washes. I was wrong. More dye continued to come off every time I showered and stained everything. I would completely dry my hair before laying down to avoid staining pillows and sheets. Days later I washed my face when my hair was dry and I got a little piece of hair wet. I didn't notice it at the time and went to bed. I woke up with my pillow and sheets stained. It's been about 6 days since I dyed my hair and it continues to come off every time I shower continuously staining my tub even more. It's not like a typical dye that eventually stops coming off after shampooing your hair several times. My color is also mostly gone now. It seems every time I wash, the dye that I'm seeing coming out is coming right off my hair. I believe it'll all be completely gone in less than two weeks. I'm giving the dye 3 stars for being a pretty color and ease of using it. I subtracted 2 stars because I've never had dye stain my tub or linen and I'm a henna user! I'm super careful about making sure the bulk of the dye/color has fully absorbed into my hair before moving to the shower and fully drying my hair before laying down to avoid staining linen. I did all that this time and it still ruined everything. It was extremely short lasting for my type. I have darkest black hair with type C curls. I've ordered some barkeepers friend and I hope that removes most of the stain in my tub. I think the linen is cooked.

Decent
I love that this didn't have a strong smell, but the dye is really thick so it was a bit of a pain trying to get it out of the bottle. Luckily, this was for my son so one was enough. His hair is naturally a medium blonde & the dye turned his roots green while the rest of his hair is more dark blue with a greenish tint. We will probably switch to a permanent dye to achieve the black he wants, but he does think his hair turned out pretty cool with this. Just not black lol. I will also agree with other reviews on the staining. Skin stains washed off in a couple of days but the shower is still a mess of blue & purple so that will take some work to remove.

Ottimo
Davvero consigliato
