Simple, compact, and fast
This is a great fax machine. It's sleek, and compact, making it easy to place on any desk. It's made by HP, people known to make printers (in fact, my current all in one printer is by HP), so you know you're getting a good fax machine. The price! It's one of the main things that drew me in! It's so darn cheap for what it is! Ok, perhaps this isn't a high end office fax, but for home, this thing is near perfect! It even uses printer ink cartridges which are easy to buy and find, instead of those fax printing films that are expensive and can be found in certain places. Not to mention they print real quick; receives and sends faxes in a instant, while keeping quiet! Now for the cons. The fax can only hold 15 8.5x11 standard papers. That may seem a bit on the low side for some people. Also, it has a small LCD screen and a few buttons for system navigation. This perhaps maybe very frustrating. Especially for those that aren't on the machine/computer literate side. Lastly, there's no answering machine. I suppose this is optional, but I was so use to my old fax machine having one, that I was kinda disappointed to find that this one didn't have one. Overall though, it's for home faxing, I must say, this thing is a steal

Perfect for our needs
Perfect for our needs. Nice and compact; fit right into our small office space. Great quick scanning steps to store the document in the system and then send it out with immediate acknowledgment. Great price at the time we purchased it on Amazon (less than $60). Well worth the cost since Kinko's charged us about $1 per page.

Never worked and is defective
I bought this last year because I needed a good middle of the road fax machine on short notice and the reviews at the time seemed halfway decent. Bad mistake. The out of box setup was simple enough, but after that I ended up wasting a whole day and a half trying to get it to fax to the test number and that never worked. You could hear it dialing out but it never gave me a conformation. I then tried to fax to the number I was in a hurry to give information to and that didn't work either. So I had to drive 5 miles and pay $12 at a copy place to get my document faxed in a hurry! The problem seems to be that the pages scan but there is no data transfer to the receiver whatsoever. I am completely disgusted with this fax machine, the lack of HP customer service help, and with Amazon.com for not allowing me to return it. Now it is an expensive $70 paperweight! Beware of this fax machine!

EASY TO HOOK UP AND USE
I BOUGHT THIS TO REPLACE ANOTHER HP FAX THAT I WAS RELUCTANT TO CHANGE BECAUSE OF THE INK AND THE LEARNING CURVE. AS IT TURNED OUT, NO PROBLEMS WHATSOEVER WITH THE INSTALLATION. I DID NOT HAVE TO SPEND TIME READING THE MANUAL AND EXCEPT FOR TAKING THE INK CARTRIDGES BACK FOR CREDIT FOR THE NEW INK CARTRIDGES, NO WASTE OF TIME. THE INK CARTRIDGES FOR THIS ARE PRICEY BUT WORTHIT.

for home office
as a telecommuter filing expense reports is a pain in the back side. The forms were created in one program, saved under yet another and when I opened and printed them, they saved under my program...The 3 programs are mutually exclusive. ended up with an four page form that would not e-mail because of size limitations, Even scanned images were poor. I could print the form, as long as I did not open it to fill it out...what a waste of time. So basically I was reduced to snail mail or hand delivery.. I finally got one copy of the forms needed from accounting (Picked them up) I scanned them to note pad and now I open them in note pad fill them out print them and fax them. This little fax is fast and easy, I do not worry about ink as there are no returned faxes. Is quick and quiet.

Pro Quality FAX is Great
Have had this machine for a few weeks now and use it often. It is perfect for sending documents, etc. to and from Doctors or Businesses that require a FAX or that can not send you an e-mail due to confidentiality rules. The only drawback that I have found is the included ink cartridge is only a starter so I had to buy a regular one. It should last a very long time but HP could do better by including a real one with the FAX. Had one like this at my office and it never gave any trouble so I purchased it to use here at home. The quality is excellent on the output print and the features are all useful. It does not have a "received tray" but a cardboard tab to catch the incoming FAX under the machine does the job if it's on a shelf. On a table or desk, that is no issue. I would highly recommend this machine to anyone needing a home FAX machine at a reasonable cost. Just go ahead and bite the bullet and buy a regular cartridge when you get it and you're done.

Expensive Ink, loud, and annoying
There is a good reason why this fax machine costs $65. You will be lucky if you can receive 100 pages before the tiny black cartridge runs out. Even on Amazon this cartridge will run you $40. That's $0.40 per page. This is on top of the fact that it does not give ANY indication that it is running low on ink. I went to lunch one day and five pages had been faxed, the last two were blank, and there was no indication on the screen. This fax also allows misguided spam calls to ring constantly until it finally realizes that it is junk and makes an even louder beeping noise. When printing pages it sounds like my old ink jet from the 90's and it doesn't print fast either, one page can take up to two minutes. I seriously had to move this thing into another room the sound was so annoying.I have since brought my wireless Lexmark all in one printer from home and it works a hela'va lot better (quieter) and gets 500 pages for five bucks.
