A very in depth look at what anchor charts are, what they do for kids and classrooms, and how to make your own in an effective way! It’s very clear a lot of work went into this guide: it’s extremely detailed, going into fonts and borders and good ideas for how to use charts (like hand signals to use the bathroom, how much glue to use, etc) and even store or reuse them. It also includes photo examples of ones the author has done herself to get a better idea of the different types and how to organize them. Each example is set up in the same way: a photo of her example, purpose of the chart, elements that go into it, and possible modification options. This makes the book really easy to flip through for good ideas. She also lays out how to use the anchor charts to get kids to think critically, set up classroom expectations, how to make their own “interactive” versions (with notebooks), and many other versatile ways to get kids involved and help them actively work on their own learning process and the overall flow of the classroom environment. She explains how to get the kids involved in the making of the charts, which only makes them want to participate even more, by using sticky notes or writing their answers down and directly making them a part of the process. Overall, a valuable resource for anyone teaching children and struggling how to make it more interactive and digestible!

This is a great book showing and describing what anchor charts are. Illustrations, directions and explanations are very easy to understand. There are many inspiring ideas and resources to add to any classroom. This is an excellent book for new teachers. These anchor charts help students understand rules, routines and give directions for tasks. There are 53 anchor charts in this book. Supplies needed to make the anchor charts are easily accessible in any craft, hobby, or art store. These are great learning tools for any elementary classroom. My favorite anchor chart is “How can we throw kindness around like confetti”.

This book is fantastic. I purchased it digitally but I'm going to need to get a physical copy for my friend who is a new elementary school teacher. The anchor chart examples are super useful, as are the descriptions of how one might work them into the flow of classroom activities.

Great book

Anchor charts are the best way to use the classroom walls for a learning environment that teaches. I have always used anchor charts, but having this concept designed and organized is so helpful! I found ideas for those classroom management questions and routines that students ask over and over that I had never thought to chart, allowing students to be more independent. Along with great ideas for classroom management and community, there are sample ideas for reading to remind students of character attributes, inference and point of view among others. The anchor charts for math are especially helpful and I see students return to them often – especially when we are learning or reviewing fractions. The anchor charts for science have really helped by keeping science vocabulary posted since the words are grouped and easy for students to find. I can honestly say, if you are a first year teacher or close to retirement, Anchor Charts will organize student’s thinking, remembering and enhance their independence.
