Question 1

Can i set the gain on this to 100 or will it be to boomy or will it blow? If it will can you tell me the best gain set up! I want a lot of bass noboom

Accepted Answer

Thanks to the design of the Ports of this subwoofer, you don't get focused vents of air from one port, so even when cranked up it won't experience obnoxious booming. Don't get me wrong, at 100% it's a pretty excessive amount of bass that can wash out your other speakers, but like others said, your mileage may vary.

Just remember your room has its own acoustics, so do the "subwoofer crawl" to discover the best placement for the woofer.

Question 2

Why is this subwoofer so expensive now? It used to sell for $250 now it is $590? Quality or supply/demand?

Accepted Answer

More than a year later the price is $199.99. One thing I have noticed is that occasionally multiple vendors will be selling the same product on Amazon at wildly different prices. Sometimes absurd prices. Like something that you can buy for $129 give or take from several vendors will be sold for $1999 from another vendor. Either it's a computer glitch, or a scam trap where they hope you will get the normal price in your mind, then not notice if you end up buying from the vendor with the high price (I've seen weird prices in the tens of thousands of dollars for some products that otherwise sell for less than 1% of that). Just be careful when reviewing your shopping cart, and as always, buyer beware!

Question 3

Has anyone compared the PSW505 to the BIC PL-200? Trying to decide on either of these two subs.

Accepted Answer

Both look very similar. I have not heard the PL-200 so I cannot speak to it, however, spec-wise seems like it would be sound close to the same as the PSW505. One feature on the PSW505 that I really like it the auto-shutoff and startup. I (more my wife) don't have to worry about turning the sub off and on when I turn on the receiever. I have my PSW505 in a normal sized living room and it sounds great and if I were to buy again, I would buy the same. Hopefully that helps.

Question 4

Is the PSW505 magnetically shielded so you can place it by your TV? The website says yes but the instruction manual says no.

Accepted Answer

It is shielded yes, the manual must have a typo because other manuals that include the PSW505 indicate that it is shielded as well as other sources I checked. As you may already know LCD, DLP and Plasma televisions are not affected by magnetism. Just to be safe, you should allow at least 18" of space between your subwoofer and any television, if you do notice video distortion or discoloration, immediately move the subwoofer away from the TV.
