Viper SmartStart Module With GPS Tracking - VSM250

I've had the Viper remote start for several years and the range of the remote is great, but there were times when in a large office buildings, airports, or when parked in a structure several blocks that the key fob transmitter wasn't powerful enough to reach the car. Easy plug and play installation with existing Viper 5301 system. Power and ground to the unit and plug in to existing 5301 system using the supplied cable. I was puzzled when the SmartStart didn't respond initially, but learned that only those licensed by Viper are allowed to initialize internet connection to the unit. (This is probably a good thing for security/safety) A quick call to the seller to provide my mobile number and serial number, and they initialized the unit remotely within 10 minutes! I've been using it for over a month now with my WindowsPhone and it and it has performed flawlessly! The WindowsPhone app could use some additional bells and whistles to match other SmartStart apps, but the basics - Start and stop engine, lock and unlock doors, trunk opener, car location and scheduled starts - all work flawlessly. NOTE TO DIRECTED: I'd love to see interior temp sensing and reporting / temp and blower controls and status reporting / and lock status in the next version of the WP app, I think that the GPS function could also be interfaced to the new version of automotive app radio to drive a "Welcome home" routine... " ~Siri or Cortana voice~ "You are now within five miles of home... Would you like your home thermostat raised and your early evening welcome home routine initiated? (Y/N)" ...but that's a little over the top for now - maybe next year?

Reception is terrible. Even in the open parking lot sometimes it's unable to communicate. If the car is in the garage, forget about it. If you want to use it as gps locator, don't waste your money.I think they are using AT&T network, so better check 3g coverage in that area. A lot of error messages, you have to send a command couple time to get a response.Simply to open a door you have to wait 10-20 sec.You are not able to see the car status, using this app.It is good idea, but still needs work.

This system is amazing! I replaced my Clifford gps unit with this one because of the ease and convince of the Viper. Once you download the app on your cell, everything you need is at your fingertips...(unlike the Clifford where it wouldn't support mobile phones, you would have to call a 800 number and choose from menu what you wanted to happen and you needed a laptop or computer to track your car cause again it wouldn't work with mobile phones). With the Viper you can lock, unlock, pop trunk or hood, remote start, or track your car all from your phone. And Amazon had it about $60-$70 cheaper than Best Buy!!!

It's ok cheaper than what a lot of the OEM's offer for an annual cost for a lot of the same features. DEI is getting ridiculous with the difficulty they continue to introduce just to force you to a dealer vs DIY.

This module is a great add on to any compatible viper alarm. I had it installed with my alarm on my 2011 Durango. Works great!! It allows me to arm/disarm my alarm via my Iphone. It also has GPS installed so I can see where my truck is at all times. It sends security alerts and vehicle status reports to my phone as well. There are so many other functions this module adds to your alarm which makes it great. I will not go into all them. Just go to Viper web site and read up on this product. I do recommend this product to anyone looking to buy an alarm in the near future.

Amazing product. I can control my car from anywhere on the planet that I have a network or WIFI signal. I especially love the ability to create boundaries and notifications for speed. You can set it so that if you car reaches a certain speed, or leaves a certain area, you get a text and/or email notification. GPS tracking is on point. It tracks my car to the exact address, and even displays my address on the GPS when I ping it.

This only works in the US

This is a great product. Good for if someone locks your keys in the car, you can unlock it. Etc. Also this model has GPS so if your truck was to get stolen, or if you forget where it was parked after a night if fun, you can locate it on the app. Only downfall it's about 100 for the year for the subscription you must have to use it
