Happy student, clear loud recordings
Well after a weeks use on campus I figured its time for a review! The recorder itself feels sturdy. There is enough weight to tell you its well build. I personally prefer a metal body, but this plastic seems good. The moldings are solid, and the device has very little "creek" when you mess with it, and none if your just handling it normally. The menu system is simple and easy enough to navigate. Some may call it "old school", but I think updating the device to have an OLED screen and touch options would yield a much higher end user cost. As far as how well it records. Once Ive put WAV on my laptop and converted them to V0 mp3, lecture voices are loud and clear. It does a pretty good job of reducing other voices. Misc stuff. It comes with regardable rechargeable lithium batteries, I find this nice since many companies now are making you get your own. THe ubttons are all sized well enough for average hands, and respond with a good "click" feel when you press them. The downsides, to which aren't a big enough deal to deduct a star: 1. Recording modes jump from 192 kbps, to WAV. I'd like a 320 kbps or better yet,V0 recording. 2, No way to disable "auto-off". The highest you can set it is 1 hour. Its not a huge deal, but I'd love to fully disable it. 3. the data cable it comes with is pretty short, maybe 5 inches. Overall: I'd recommend it.

Performs as expected
I read reviews for the top voice recorders, and this was number one. You can see comparisons on other websites showing how the philips DVT/5000 measures up to the competition. It is easy to operate and understand. The sound quality is good. I also purchased the Sony Tie-clip (ECM-CS3) mic and it works and sounds great. No need to change input settings. It works right away. I also purchased the Sony telephone mic (ECM-TL3) and it is also compatible and sounds great. For the price, I think it is worth it.

Problem recognizing voice recorder through a USB port connected through a USB HUB.
It was difficult to plug the USB cable connecter into the mini port on my voice recorder and even after I finally appeared to get the cable plugged into the mini port my computer would not recognize the voice recorder. I filled out the Amazon DOA forms, received an RMA number and requested UPS pick up my voice recorder. Which they did the next day, and Amazon sent me a replacement two days later. After receiving the replacement I found the USB cable connected fine, but my computer would still not recognize the voice recorder. …so I tried connecting the voice recorder through other computer USB ports. I discovered the USB ports on the front of my computer are attached to my computer through a USB HUB and my computer will not recognize the voice recorder when it is plugged into these ports. However if I plug the voice recorder into the USB ports on the back of my computer, which are not connected through a USB HUB, my computer will recognize the voice recorder just fine. All my other devices (Amazon Kindle, Garmin Nuvi, ASUS Transformer, and multiple manufactures flash drives) work fine when connected through the front USB ports, but I seem to recall reading something ,a long time ago, about other devices not working properly when connected through a HUB. So, I guess my voice recorder is probably working correctly. I just thought I should say something about this problem. Maybe someone from Amazon or Phillips could comment on this situation. Otherwise I am happy with the voice recorder and would buy it again..

good quality used only for lectures
I bought this in nov 13 and its worked well. clear sound, good quality used only for lectures. My big problem with it, even if its off, if you touch the record button will automatically go on and begin recording. I have to delete files with 5-11 hrs or recordings. NOW, in feb 2016, it gave up the ghost. Screen became jumbled alth i think it still could record. Will use my iphone and skip the cost of another. BTW it outlasted all my previous Olympus models.

Good sound quality but missing key functionality
I previously owned a Olympus WS-801 which costs significantly less. This recorder does produce better recordings with less background noise than the Olympus. However, there are two major issues with the playback: 1) Playback speed only has 3 levels: slow, normal, and fast. My Olympus could do any of a tenth of a recording playback speed, so for instance I could play back at 1.3x, which was fast enough for me to take notes but not too fast. The fast playback speed of this device is too fast for notes 2) Fast playback speed has no pitch control. So at fast speed everyone sounds like the chipmunks.

Great Device
Great sound quality and sensitivity. I owned Sony ICD-UX71 and I was in love with its sensitivity and quality, but the features were few and it was not easy to navigate the menu, and it was working fine until it's stopped working one day. I was looking for something with good quality instead of Sony because from the reviews I can see that Sony new products are not as good as before. So, I was looking for alternative vendor, Olympus, TASCAM, and others. Finally I found this one and look only gives you the impression of the manufacturing quality. As for now, it is great device, many features, noise reduction is cool, wind filter is also great. I think Auto Zoom is great feature but it needs some more improvement " I don't like it when it disables noise reduction and wind filter automatically". Voice activated recording is great feature. Manual sensitivity is cool too. I think it needs more playback speeds. The radio is good and can be recorded with good quality. I suggest that the bag will be bigger a little bit. Finally, it is a great device for it's purpose (voice recording). But I think it is not designed for music recording, you may go to Yamaha which has good products for this purpose. If you need a device for lectures, dictations, and distant recording, this one will be the choice. Thanks,

Happy Dragon User
Works right out of box. Long time Dragon Naturally Speaking user. Got really tired of being tied to computer with headset mike.Bought and sold a wireless mike (too error prone). Decided to try the Philips DVT5000. After finding the Philips and Nuance literature I jumped on board with a 9 minute training dictation. It turned out wonderful. Now I have all the freedom and vlexibility that I hoped for out of Voice to Text applications. I highly recommend the DVT5000 and encourage others to give it a try.

Digital Voice Tracer 5000
DVT5000 has excellent range and fidelity. Very nice with good earphones. Rated at 6 or best for Dragon 12 Voice to text but the audio output clips a bit at full level so it needs some back-off for Dragon 12. It lacks a way to scroll thru long files. I have some which are more than 1 hour each. They are externally sourced voice files which cannot be split and must be run in the music channel. Of its 5 channels only the one music channel will run externally sourced MP3 files. A thru D are internal only but work well for programs recorded by the DVT5000. It would not be useful without the mini USB connection to set up files etc. Charging is slow but a must have. I use a USB hub so the computer can be turned off. SH

ottimo prodotto

excellent pick up from a distance and loads of storage
I am not particularly at ease with any technology but I am learning to use this voice recorder. It has a very large capacity and can pick up sounds from other rooms - you can also cut out background sounds ......it is easy to transfer the recordings as MP3 files on to a computer. it is a pity that this model did not come with a telephone conversation recorder lead1 I bought one separately and have not tried this yet.

Gruss [email protected]
