Beretta PX4 Storm Compact Fits Perfectly
This Pelican case just looks and feels like it could stand up to anything. It is the only case I can imagine using for transporting firearms. If you have a Beretta PX4, you know that the case it came with is garbage. This case is so much better in every way, it is amazing. The "pick and pluck" foam, as Pelican calls it, really helps get a customized fit for your gun. Be aware, the picture of this case makes it look bigger than it actually is. Because of the internal foam layout, I would NOT buy this case for a full sized PX4. I have a compact and it just barely fits. That is a good thing, as it keeps the gun nice and secure, but a taller gun would not fit. I was able to fit two mags into the case as well (three if your count the one that is already in the gun). That is about all you will fit in this case. I am reviewing the 1170 model. Please be sure which model you are ordering because when I ordered it was a bit confusing. In short, perfect case for a PX4 Compact or smaller gun, along with a couple mags. If you need more storage, buy a bigger case. But make sure that case is a Pelican.

The best you can get.
I needed a solid locking case for travel and this is the best you can get. Pelican is the go-to brand for quality cases for items that are important or valuable to you. Do not be deterred by the price, you get what you pay for, and with Pelican you get quality. It's large enough for me to fit my carry pistol, spare magazines and carry ammo. For flying in the United States this the perfect little case as TSA regulations require a solid locked case. Though I do not believe it's required, I always run zip-ties though the chamber to make it clear that the pistol is unloaded and have never had a problem or question from TSA or airport officials. Only complaint is that the Masterlock locks do not allow you to really move or adjust them once locked meaning they stick up/out at a weird angle. But they're solid and prevents TSA from opening/stealing/inspecting your case without you present so in that regards they do what they're supposed to do. Would easily fit larger frame pistols too and easily fits my other stuff as well. I've only plucked the foam out though to accommodate my CM9 since that is what I often travel with since it's small and easily concealed.

I am now a Pelican Fan! EXCELLENT CASE
EXCELLENT CASE. I want to say this is well worth the money. I almost bough a cheap case..so glad I didn't. I bought this to put a Smith and Wesson 9mm M&P Shield and 2 clips. It is perfect size. Very sturdy case and I bought the recommended locks for it and they fit like a glove. I like the fact that you can carefully take out the squares of foam to make a perfect fit and save them, because you can place them back in. I actually laid them down sideways to make the depth 1/2 of what it was as the S&W is slim. This case has an o-ring around the top to make it waterproof. The closures are real nice, they snap closed. You will not be disappointed on this purchase. I am so glad somebody in a review for a cheap case mentioned Pelican. I was reading all the bad reviews on the cheap cases, then searched Pelican and what a world of difference. I am now a Pelican Fan!

Great case, just pay attention to buy the right sized lock for it
I just received my case, and it looks to be everything I expected it to be! Very sturdy built case, the pick & pluck foam makes it easy to carve out an area to put your items (for me - a full size SIG P226 9MM pistol and the magazine separately). One bit of caution though, when selecting locks, be sure to closely examine the diameter of the lock shackle. I wanted a 4-digit lock instead of a lock with a physical key, so I didn't select the "commonly ordered with" option. Unfortunately, I mistakenly ordered a lock (MasterLock item 175D) which has an 8mm shackle diameter - which is just a bit too thick to fit through the lock holes in the Pelican case. The Pelican case doesn't specify the dimension of their pre-cut holes, but they seem to be just under 8mm. I could possibly drill the Pelican case holes to be a bit wider (I now remember reading a review where someone commented on how that was harder than they expected - I bet they ended up making the same mistake I did). Instead I'm going to pick up another lock with a slightly skinnier shackle (6mm or maybe 7mm might fit). Nevertheless, the case itself is very sturdy and is well manufactured. I'm glad to have it and give it a 5-star rating!!

Perfect, BUT may be overkill for TSA if...
I bought this as a first-time checking a firearm flyer. Lucky for me I live 10 minutes from Detroit Metro and was able to stop in and with this case and my EMPTY Sig Sauer case (yes, both marked "EMPTY" with bright orange tape) carrying through the terminal. I asked TSA what was acceptable. Obviously they said this was -assuming you abide by both TSA and your airline's rules, and the Master locks everyone recommends are indeed perfect. They also confirmed, there is NO SUCH THING as a TSA approved lock. They will cut off any lock if something needs to be opened. To my surprise they noted 2 important things. The first being that my Sig Sauer hard case (for my P938) was perfectly acceptable with the locks. Secondly, what I didn't think about which made me glad to have purchased this was that this leaves no indication of what is inside. As some "sitters" by the luggage would quickly snatch up a case labeled "Sig Sauer" across the front. This case is discreet and tough it may contain a really sentimental five dollar bill or in my "case" an $800 pistol WITH ammo. If in doubt and your alternate case is labeled with what may be inside, dish out the money and get this with the 2 recommended Master locks (they really are a perfect fit). Thank you Pelican, Detroit Metro TSA, and reviews for the suggested locks. Happy travels! p.s. TSA allows live ammo in the same case as a firearm as long as the rounds don't touch (basically your standard 50 round box of Winchester Ranger-T series 124gr +p in the box was fine). The airline itself is what you need to check with. Allegiant had to call it in and get approval to allow it in the same locked case, but they let it fly.

Best Case for 4-6 Dive Watches
After much research, I determined that this is the best Pelican case if you are looking to store 6 watches. The latches scream quality from the first time you open them, and the whole case feels bombproof. While banging around mechanical watches is never advised, I think they'd be quite well protected in this case. I currently have 6 Seiko divers in mine, and it looks fantastic--rugged storage for rugged watches. Using toothpicks to mark the corners, I cut the foam in 5x3 rectangles with 2 squares between each. (Pick N Pluck is a deceiving name; you'll want to use a knife.) I fit four watches vertically in a top row, and 2, horizontally, across the bottom. The cut-out pieces can then serve as pillows without any further modification. I probably could have fit more watches in there if I so desired, but the box looks great in this layout. Then leave a bit of space in there for a few silica gel packets to keep everything dry. You might be tempted by the Pelican 1200, which a lot of people also use as a watch box, but the overall depth of that case is 4.87", versus just 4.37" for this case, which is the perfect depth and makes the case a bit more svelte (if that is even possible for a Pelican case.) So choose the 1170 instead. For a more extensive watch collection, you'd be well served to look at the 1495 laptop case which features a combination lock and a shoulder carrying strap an has briefcase-like dimensions.

This case rocks...
I've obviously not had an opportunity to sample every gun case that is offered for sale on Amazon, but I can say with confidence that this case is better than any I have seen at the local gun and sporting goods stores. The first pleasant surprise that caught my eye when I opened the box is that this case is made in the USA. The second thing that caught my eye is that the exterior has a very pleasant texture and the latches operate with a very solid feel. Thirdly, the hinges and the handle feel very solid. Overall, this is an excellent case, but a couple of things prevented me from giving it 5 stars. These things may not bother everyone, so proceed accordingly. While this case is being used for firearms I don't think that it was designed specifically for gun. This is evident by the fact that the case is just a touch too small for a full size pistol. If anyone at Pelican reads these reviews they should consider making the case about 2 inches wider and 2 inches longer. The depth is fine. Making the case just slightly bigger will allow the comfortable storage of full size pistols along with 2-3 magazines and perhaps an autoloader.

Awesome case for flying with a firearm.
This case has been just awesome for me. I carry concealed so I take my weapon with me when flying. This has removable foam inserts you can pluck the blocks out to hold what you want. Honestly I took out the top layer of the inserts and just threw my Glock 19 pistol in there with two spare magainzes and it fit just fine or a gun and a small box of ammunition. It might be able to hold a bigger weapon even that way. If you want to spend the time to pluck out the foam it holds things really well. Depending on wear I go I may put a different pistol in there so I didn't customize it. No problems and no complaints, meets TSA guidelines for firearms once you put a lock on it. The case is very sturdy, easy to lock up, fit in my luggage just fine, and its a PELICAN!

Nice and strong
This ended up being a bit small for what I wanted it for, but I have kept it because I know it will come in handy for something else in the near future.
