So I’ve been on a fragrance journey that started with me wearing basically different variations of Dolce & Gabbana’s “Light Blue”; woody aquatic, crisp, fresh. For years, I absolutely hated anything floral or floral dominant. Most recently I’ve decided to step outside of my olfactory comfort zone and experiment with scents, from the fruitiest of florals to the muskiest incensed oud and everything in between. This little gem, Anais Anais has been a delightful surprise. Upon first impression I found it rather sharp and somewhat baby powdery, HOWEVER the dry down of this is gorgeous; opening with hints of honeysuckle, hyacinth,and lily-of-the-valley followed by an earthier undertone of amber, cedar, oak moss and sandlewood. I’m not a fan of the baby powder scent but thankfully on me, it dissipates rather quickly and what’s left is a soft vintage white floral. It has a nice balance, and for an EDT it has good longevity and the sillage is somewhat better than other EDT’s. Just keep in mind this is a reformulation of the 1978 version so of course this will smell different to those who owned the original. Happy sniffing!

One of my favorite scents.

When this went on sale, I decided to buy it and see if it still captivated me as it did so, so many years ago when I was young. I decided, standing in a drug store in 1974, that I should have a perfume to wear as I started university. This was my first perfume purchase and became my signature scent while in college. Verdict: it was lovely then and lovely now. Thankfully Cacharel has not altered the DNA of this scent. So many other companies ruin their original recipes in a continual attempt to capture new customers. Sadly, they don't seem to worry about the satisfaction of the legions who are heartbroken when their adored fragrances turn into something they can't recognize any longer. This fragrance is clear and real. It's lilies in full sun. It's charming and a bit sensual but never naughty. It's an expression of a young girl knowing she is on her way to some amazing moments and adventures. Hoping for connection. Hoping to find her place in a new environment. Hoping it will help people remember her in the nameless crowds. It is good to wear all year but it shines when it's spring and nature is shouting joyfully for attention. There's debate on-line for those perfume diehards, about the start of this little beauty. All I can say is that it was available in 74, so it's been around and mostly forgot for far too long. Buy it, spray it, and all day you'll catch a trace of something delicious and happy. That's Anais Anais. No matter how old a woman gets, the young girl she was, the girl who hoped she was pretty and wanted to do all the glamor things adult females did, is always waiting to be seen and felt once more.

It’s smells horrendous. Definitely not the way it smelled many years ago when it was the “IT” fragrance. Also, the size of the bottle is basically a toy size bottle. Definitely disappointed as I was really looking forward to it smelling amazing like it did back in the 90s. :(
