Aphrodite IX great art but page clipping
Great comic love the glossy cover and the pages are really great except for sometimes they can be clippy when the image tries to share two pages but it's not too bad there's very few pages with it and also my shipper was really goodComic-N-Stuff put my comic book in between two pieces of cardboard and bubble wrap in the packaging so it deform while shipping also put a plastic comic book cover over the comic so that was good because my mailman decided to squeeze it into my mailbox with all my other mail but managed to come unscathed that's good so buy it if you like it it's worth it.

New and interesting comic
I recently picked up the second volume in this series while I as in the city. I was at a comic book shop and just picked it randomly because the cover looked interesting. I really enjoyed that volume and started to look around for more of this character and series. This is the first volume so this is where I was supposed to start with the story but whatever. The character is really interesting. Aphrodite IX is a synthetic life form designed to be the perfect assassin but she doesn't know it yet. Her memory blacks out a few minutes after the mission is complete thus rendering her useless to police. The ideas and story are done really well and the pace keeps you turning the pages.I will definitely follow this character and series some more and see where it goes.

Love the art! Interesting Story arc!
If you're a big fan of Heavy Metal Magazine, Sci-fi, Fantasy etc. you'll love this book. David finch art is great, you can see references from Blade Runner, Star Trek, even a little bit of Aliens and Star Wars, and Aphrodite is really, really hot so the art deserves a big ten. The story is you're basic origin of the character arc, but leaves you wanting more, still entertaining though. I would buy this more for it's art and concept, but i need to see a better Aphrodite IX story that'll blow my mind.Buy it, it's worth your money, and IX is freaking hot!!!

Standard super assassin babe
Nicely done, art that rises past mere competence (was there homage to Druillet?), story that moves well. Somehow, though, the whole never added up to the sum of the parts. And, I just have to imagine some high-perfance fiber (kevlar, maybe, or nanotube composite) in her underpants, since A) they feature so prominently under her less-than-buttwidth skirts and since her bounciness and B) her athletics must strain them so terribly. Really, just a bit too much compliance with the babe standard. Fun as a story, but makes a long trip of the return to reality.-- wiredweird

not bad, not perfect
Can't say much about this one. A decent read, decent story. I would by the next one if there is going to be, but i'm in no hurry to re-read this. I did take the time to type a review for this, so it wasn't all that bad, but I normally type up must of my reviews for things i give three stars. The other stars speak for themselves

A DEADLY, GORGEOUS ASSASSIN
Normally, Aphrodite IX is the kind of book that I would rip to shreds. The main character is a gorgeous, scantily clad female. Not that I have anything against gorgeous, scantily clad females, but when a book features dozens of splash pages, many of them two-page splash pages, it's usually a sign that the book is all glitz and eye-candy and lacking any story. But a funny thing happened as I read this trade paperback collecting issues #1 - 4 of the series...I liked it. I really liked it! (with apologies to Sally Field). In a futuristic society where nearly all humans have some synthetic parts of some kind, Aphrodite is unique. She is totally synthetic and was created in a lab. Only she doesn't know it. Created to be an ultra powerful assassin and to carry out the whims of the head of the Council, Aphrodite kills without remorse or feeling and does so brazenly and with incredible efficiency. And, 15 minutes after her missions, she completely forgets them, retaining no memory of what she did or even what she is. Her first hints come when she leaves herself a recording, prior to forgetting. Then, she slowly begins to remember things in her dreams. She remembers the people she's killed and she remembers the Council and the man she affectionately called "daddy" the scientist who created her.The more she remembers the more of a conscience she develops over her actions. Aphrodite, the unstoppable assassin, fighting off security forces and a powerful cyborg named Abraxis, begins to piece together the clues of her mysterious life and finally comes face-to-face with the head of the council and learns all the secrets of her deadly past.Writer David Wohl borrows some themes from films and TV such as "The Matrix", "The 6th day" and "Dark Angel" and comes up with an effective, if not altogether, original story. I did find myself engrossed in Aphrodite's search for her background and the reason why she forgets her missions 15 minutes after completion. Dave Finch's artwork is simply striking. Yes there are a lot of splash pages but it is great stuff. He shows Aphrodite as the perfect, sexy, yet vulnerable and confused and manipulated killer that she is. The trade paperback also reprints all of the variant covers that were included in the regular comic series and a brief sketch gallery.Reviewed by Tim Janson

Aphrodite IX
The comics is well drawn and the story has its catches, but sometimes I just got lost because I didn't knew where I was. Why wasn't Aphrodite with Burch? Why was she in a new mission? When did this happen? It was a little like time-travelling, jumping through the story, until you catch the ride and wave it and then it all flows gracefully until the last page that leaves you in awe and wanting to know more. Is there more? The bad part of it is that I think that some of the characters need a bit more of development. I suppose that if it's not a short serie and it gets on the characters may have (or may not have) some more depth. Especially the secondary characters. Also, I would like to know why Aphrodite decided to leave herself a tape to enlighten her about the fact that she loses her memory after every mission. And why Burtch did what he did? All of it?I don't know, I liked the comic book, but I think it lakes a little more of development on the characters department, and maybe a little more elaboration in the overall sense (continuity of the story).

great art/concept plot not so much
created by david finch and david whol, aphrodite IX tells the story of an android with amnesia struggling to understand the world and a complex conspiracy. the concept is great, the character is also great and the art (finch's at least) is stunning. unfortunately by the end the obviously-disjointed production (it only ran for 4 issues over 2[?] years) means the plot meanders to a disappointing and formulaic conclusion and the replacement artist for finch finishing the book is not as good (the colouring in particular gets worse, not necc. the pencils). also the editing is shocking - aphrodite takes damage in numerous battles, but in the next panel is pristine again - no explanation is even hinted at!? still all the covers are included and the package is well-designed and presented. i'd love to see the character again, perhaps reinvented slightly as the original conept had echoes of "alias" and "dollhouse" well before either tv show was invented.

great , a bit controversial , story
I loved Aphrodite IX. Not for the explicit visuals, as the dark, dystopian cyberpunk setting was a much more interesting plot device for me. The main protagonist being an eternal amnesiac with no clue to her origin is a very good tool for creating a deep and details story line. Does seem a bit 'jumpy' at times, and some plot and story line (especially when it comes to drawings) would have benefited from a bit more elaborate use of panels - more would have been better and less confusing in certain scenes. Recommended non the less. (and Two Cows as well! same as Darkness!)

Excellent read and images.
I tend to like characters that have less exposure in the comic world like Magdalena, Velocity and Aphrodite. So i was very pleased at this graphic novel that was quality in read and images. Aphrodite is an unusual character as she is a little mysterious assides the obvious killer protocol and genetic implants etc. This GN i found intriguing and the best cover of the Aphrodite character yet.Buy it i gtee you won't be dissapointed. Also i'm looking for my next tattoo after my Magdalena tat! Just maybe : )

SEXY ASSASSIN WITH A CONSCIENCE
Futuristic scenerio where almost every human has been implanted with some or the other prosthetic/mechenical part.Aphrodite IX is a gorgeous gynoid who was created in a lab and is entirely synthetic, something which sets her apart from the rest. She is an assassin with super strength, speed, healing factor who loses her memory after 15 minutes of carrying out her mission each time making her a perfect killing machine for hire, one who will not fail and won't give away her masters if ever compromised. After every mission she is taken home by her contractor Burtch who tries to make sense to her after every mission. However something has changed as now after each mission she recalls fragments of her past missions as dreams, the atrocities she committed which disturbs her and so she sets out on a quest to find out who she is and why was she created.Always hounded by the police and her enemies for her acts she constantly finds herself amidst battles which majorly end up with Aphrodite leaving her opponents in a bloodbath, mutilated or decapitated. She goes on a rampage trying to find out about her origins while dealing with amnesia, meeting a special friend along the way who she wants to trust but can't.The story is entertaining and keeps you glued till the very end. However it does have some loose ends but David Wohl makes up for it with relentless action and Aphrodite's badassery and sex appeal.Needless to say the artwork is a treat for one's eye.The panels are beautifully drawn by the mighty David Finch with a lot of double page spreads.Aphrodite looks as hot as a furnace and the art gets you a complete feel of the sci-fi futuristic world. All in all a very good book.A must buy if you enjoy lush artwork and scantly-clad badass chicas with loads of mayhem.
