Works well , wish it had a third speed
I bought this for my mother who isn't as sensitive to noise as I am but even she says it's kind of loud. Her place is bigger so it's not much of an issue but I tried it in my apt. on the lowest setting but couldn't take it.This machine is fine for my MCS and would be perfect if they added a third lower setting.Update: My mother has had the one in her living room for at least 2 years running on low 24 hrs a day. This thing is a tank, the motor is still as good as new. The noise level is not as bad as I thought and acts as kind of a buffer noise from the outside. We actually bought one for the room I sleep in when I visit and started using it at night without a problem.I decided to give it another try for my bedroom because the Blueair 403 I bought has smelly filters and makes a whiny noise and it's going back. If it still seems too loud I will use it during the day and turn it off while sleeping. It's a solid little machine that doesn't give off any odors at all-right out of the box, plug it in=clean airUPDATE-I've been running it 24 hrs a day in my bedroom for over a year and the noise doesn't bother me.The filter will only last a year if I take the filter out and vacuum it after 6 months, which is fine.Keeping it at 4 stars because the machine isn't very effective against dust. I'm thinking about getting an inexpensive HEPA purifier to run during the day in the same room and turn it off at night.

Replacement filters are $120 w/shipping each!!
Be prepared to spend more on three filters with shipping than you did on the original unit. Super expensive replacement filters. Reminds me of ink for printers.

best air cleaner for chemical sensitivity
I've been using Aireox air cleaners in my home and cars for about 16 years and wouldn't buy any other kind. I have severe chemical sensitivity (from an on the job incident) and they do the job for me. They are simple, easy to clean (open, vacuum the outside of the filter, replace), and quiet. Buy a new filter to replace the one inside it when you can again smell stuff that it didn't clean out of the air (about 1 year). I run mine 24/7 on low and have for 16 years straight. The only problem that some of my older ones have had is with the switch (max setting didn't work after a while). My newest one, just purchased from Amazon, does not have that problem. It wouldn't bother me if it did because these air cleaners are the best in any case. Cleans everything out of the air (formaldehyde, mold, gasses, smoke, etc.). During the horrible fires in California a while back, I just ran my Aireox and kept the windows closed and had clean air in the house.I highly recommend these air purifiers. I own three at home, one for my husband's office, and one for the car. The newest one replaces a 16 year old one which finally bit the big one. All my others are old and working just fine.

$ 600.00 week to run it.
Confirmed my worst fears. If your trying to remove smoke or chemicals, charcoal filters do the job. The problem from myexperience, you need about 10 lbs of charcoal. This will last only about 48 hours max of use. Yes, thats it! Of course all these cleaners will tout6 months +++ of use. In my experience that is a complete falsehood. Yep, sure enough, this was effective for one weekend. Now - it needs a new filter. That's $ 100 dollars - you do the math. Or $ 300.00 for one week.

I'm using this but not sure how well it is working and if it is actually keeping VOCs out of my air. There is not way to know besides not having reactions. With they came with a built in indicator, or a test kit.

excellent and safe product
Aroma Thyme offers a good price on this product, from what I found during comparisons. We put it in the bedroom and it effectively cleans the air. I think that I smelled some of the permanganate, so the manufacturer is sending me, free of charge, 100% carbon to replace the existing filtration with permanganate. Customer service is awesome. I am going to see if the strange smell goes away. My husband has no problem with the faint smell that appeared after about a day. I am very hopeful about using the 100% carbon because the owner of this business said that some people pick up the permanganate smell. For a lower priced, small portable purifier, that actually absorbs VOCs, this is a pretty good product. Have not tried it yet in a yucked up hotel room.

Works well. I think it can use a better design, such as adding a HEPA filter and moving the power cable to the base.

Worth it!
We bought one of these over a year ago after purchasing a couch that promptly began off-gassing in our living room. While I have no control for comparison, I do think this purifier shortened the off-gassing period. Either way, it definitely kept the chemical odor(s) from wafting all over the apartment.Another use we've found for it is in our bedroom at night; if you find your room gets stuffy by morning, run the Aireox on low all night. Zero stuffiness!Update 6/4/18: Over five years later and the Aireox is going strong! Would buy again in a heartbeat, but I doubt I'll ever have to.
