Memorex Sport CD/MP3 portable Boombox with AM/FM Radio and Digital Display/ AUX input

For such a small unit the sounds is pretty good. Will work great for a small gathering as backround music or for personal listening like in the shower or something. The Bass Boost button does add some bass...SOME. People complain that this radio and others like it are made of cheap plastic. I didnt expect it to be made of steel.. did you? It has to be light... its portable. With that said, I will say that it's BUILT cheaply. The "function" button to change between AM/FM and radio broke right out of the box. I turned the dial to test it and it worked the first time. When I tried to turn off the unit the dial just turned and turned - nothing happened. I took the button off to inspect it - pops right off. I noticed that the button literally had tape on it to make it thicker so when you insert it into the whole, it can catch on the sides. Seemed like something you do after you've had the unit for years and its starting to mess up. But nope.. thats how its made. SAD. Takes a few tries, but I have to force down very hard on the dial so it can catch. All the other buttons work fine. I don't know why, but when I took it out of the box, I could hear something moving around in there as if something broke inside...might have something to do with that broken dial. Overall it's not worth more than $30 bucks.. 20 something would be nice for the quality. Good Luck.

This is the second Memorex Sport CD/MP3 portable Boombox (AM/FM Radio) we have purchased. It works well. It is rated with 5 stars because the sound quality is better than most purchased in this price range and the first one has lasted over six months. Typically the less expensive (and unfortunately $45 to $65 is now "less expensive") Boomboxes do not last for very long. It is light weight and easy to carry. We have a small to medium gym and the music is heard above the "busy bodies" who are part of our therapy program - so the loudness aspect is pretty good as well. The knob which switches from CD player to radio is easy to use, but a little "off centered" when connecting to the CD player. When switching to the radio, however, it is on the mark. This is the same as the first Memorex Boombox we purchased. We primarily keep the dial at CD player, so it is not a problem for us. Hope this is helpful.

Decent sound for the price. My mother loves to listen to her CDs on this and has very arthritic hands. This is easy for her to use and carry from room to room. My only complaint is the knob that turns on the player and switches it from CD to radio is very tiny and hard to tell which selection you are on. Not only is it hard to see what selection you are on, the different selections are so close together you can't really tell when to stop turning the knob until you hear the radio to know you are on the radio selection. The display does light up nicely.

Cool little boombox! I was looking for something for my 9yo, that was the cheapest (but decent) item I could get. I had a list of things that I wanted it to contain, and although it didn't have everything (nothing did for <$100!), this one was the closest and best match. It comes with a cord, that detaches, and then also runs on 8-c batteries. The radio moves by turning a knob, BUT, the display on what station you are on is digital. The handles are within the shape of the product, not an external product. I think the antennae is cool. It actually extends out fully, about 6", but completely hides away back into the device when done. (Ah the years that I broke antennaes as a kid!! haha)

This is a very good cd player that can also play mp3s. This was purchased for me 5 year old son to play music and use his cd that we made for him with his favorite songs. It has held up well to my 5 year old and 3 year old using it and they both like being able to play their songs when they want.

Positives: It is compact with a decent sound at a very reasonable price. Simple controls.Negatives: Could use some more bass, even with the "boost." The radio tuner looks digital, but it's just a tuner wheel with a digital display. I hear some crackling from the speakers when switching modes or pressing the bass boost button, which suggests poor electrical connections inside.

This was for my Mom. I was not that happy with it. Mainly it was a dial in tuner for the radio and it would not stay on the frequency. My Mom is too old to mess around with the tuner to try and get a good setting. I eventually replaced.The MP3 CD replay was good, but the controls were just too small for my Mom to see. She needed a more basic type Boombox. I just bought the wrong one.

memorex did not put a lot of quality or engineering in this piece, and to make myself an even bigger idiot, I cheaped out and bought it used.Nothing here is resellers fault, but it became in a short period of time--useless junk. First the old time dial for the radio broke, then the cd player began to get temperamental, never playing a full album or just refusing to play at all.When it does work it sounds pretty good, but as stated that is a rare occasion. In my humble opinion, if Memorex had invested another $3 or so in quality up to date raw materials, this could have been a winner.I think Memorex has withdrawn this product from the market, but if you do come across one, avoid it and pay a few more bucks for a better built more modern product. Just this guys opinion.
