Worth waiting for...
I loved Prince in the Purple Rain era. Then I fell out of his spell for years, only really following his radio hits, not his full albums. I bought them, but didn't enjoy them (with a few exceptions like Parade and Graffiti Bridge), and put them on the shelf. Now I'm rediscovering how great Prince was all those years I didn't listen to him. I never even knew about the Black Album until I recently started backtracking his career and getting caught up buying CD's from those days. I'm finding out that the funky music I didn't care for that much 25 years ago, I love now...and Prince does it best! The Black Album was expensive, since it's rare, but I bought it anyway, and I don't regret it. All funky dance music with entertaining and funny (and sometimes disturbing) lyrics. The only exception is the ballad "When 2 R in Love" which is also on the Lovesexy album. I agree with other posters who say this one song does not fit in with the rest of the album, but it's still a great song.My one and only complaint would be that the 3rd party vendor I bought this from (through Amazon) took 3 full weeks to deliver the CD, which seemed too long for domestic USPS shipping. But it was worth the wait.

This HAD to be good...
I remember hearing about this way back in the late 80's, before the days you could find just about anything on the internet. This was an almost legendary album that was apparently too extreme EVEN FOR PRINCE! Recorded sometime between "Sign of the Times" and "Lovesexy", I read about "Black Album" after it had already been pulled from circulation by Warner Brothers, and actually heard a bootleg cassette while in Germany during the summer of '89. Listening to it now, more than 20 years later, I don't feel it's that much worse than some of his racier B-sides. I remember searching high and low for 12" singles especially to get Prince's off-the-wall B-sides, so this is sort of like finding a collection of those non-mainstream tunes. I've read that Prince prompted the recall because he had bad feelings (?) about the project, that it was too dark or something. Even though it doesn't have any commercial type "singles", I think its very good overall. A different Prince perspective.

Excellent Addition to My Collection
Years ago, I passed on purchasing this album. I figured IF, the Artist replaced this album with another album he must have had a good reason? The album is packed with energy and emotion and has become one of the most boot-legged albums in music history. It is a piece history and essential to the Prince Mythos. I am glad not to pass up on this album, again.

Great seller, great record!
Painless, quick, easy sale. And this album is fantastic. There are some "odd" moments and choices on it, but if you've heard the apocryphal stories (or listened to the lyrics to supercalifunkifragisexy) then it might make sense, especially in context of the era.But WOW, this album is a blast. Dance funk, primarily electro, but the incomparable Sheila E. is all over this record as well. From the crazy bassline of Le Grind to the sexy love-groove of When 2 R n Love, Sheila's mind-blowing pocket on 2 Nigs United 4 West Compton to Prince's quoting Jeff Beck guitar lines on Rock Hard in a Funky Place, this record is a hot little gem. Oh, and did I mention the funky drunken-stumble horn line in that last track? It's squeal-worthy.

Great album.
I already owned one copy of this but after seeing that it is a hard one to come by, I ordered 2 more. I've had this album since 1988 when it was a bootleg on vinyl and then later on when it was on CD, and then finally a copy when it was originally released. This album is and always has been THE JAM. Every song is great and while I can understand why Prince didn't want to release it, it was still a good album and I'd pay all that money all over again if I had to do it over.

Love Prince and most of his music
Love Prince and most of his music, but I find this one of his worst albums. No real catchy rhythms here, except for the hidden track: that one is phenomenal! Le Grind and Cindy C are OK, but I find them too long and there isn't a lot of variation either (I got bored halfway). Prince IS one of the greatest artists alive and therefore I really expected more of it. I personally LOVE the Lovesexy album (of which one song is also included on The Black Album: When 2 are in love), the oldies of course, plus 3121 & 20ten.

I'm the envy of all my friends
I'm a die hard Prince fan and it has always bothered me that I didn't have The Black Album. Well, now I have it and this is one of the best Prince albums ever.Of course we know "When 2 R in Love" since this song survived the Black Album and made it to LoveSexy. But Le Grind, Cindy C and Rockhard in a Funky Place--they go hard! Love it.

A qualidade do CD e impecável. O unico negativo foi o custo dos portes de Japão que foi mais caro que o proprio CD.

Goal achieved - Authentic Copy of Prince The Black album
For years I have had some form of the black album - from a bootleg cassette I picked up circa 1987 to a later digital copy. I am a audiophile & music collector (now I only collect albums by artists I truly love & albums that mean a lot personally) - this copy is an authentic copy of the 1994 re issue - I have check all barcodes re: discogs.com & all are correct. I am now happy to have completed my ambition to an actual copy of Prince - The Black album.
