You know you are getting old when... you look forward to a vacuum cleaner being delivered.I love this vacuum cleaner. I had a Hoover bagless upright for a few years and the canister broke. Of course it did; it's plastic, it gets dumped 2-3 times per vacuuming the house, and it was a POS. That thing was so heavy that I literally sweated when I used it. Now THIS Sanitaire - *queue the angels singing* - is a Godsend. It's so light that I can actually use it on the stairs. No, it doesn't have attachments, but that's okay! I would rather have no attachments than pay for something that doesn't ever really work or is outright dangerous (my old Dyson attachments would bring that thing tumbling down on me when I was cleaning the stairs). This Sanitaire weighs less than 12 lbs. I can vacuum all day and not get tired. I even use it on the hardwood floor to vacuum up the dog hair. It's great for that. Don't get the wrong idea though; I can't vacuum up the wood chips from the wood stove or any hard objects; those just get spit back out. But the suction on this thing is phenomenal, so I can vacuum near a clump of dog hair and it gets sucked up on the driveby. It's awesome. And then on carpets it's just fantastic. Six different height adjustments. And I am really getting to know the adjustments because this thing is so powerful that on area rugs, if the height is too low, the rug will rise and the vacuum will become louder. No biggie though. And speaking of louder, this vacuum cleaner is so dang quiet. Ahhh! And when I say that it becomes loud on the area rugs at times, it's still not as loud as that Hoover I had.BTW, don't worry yourself over the amperage of a vacuum cleaner. Some companies put that in the specs to confuse the buyer. Amperage measures the electrical current going from the house outlet to the motor of the vacuum cleaner. Yes, amps does tell you something about the motor, but that doesn't tell you how efficient the motor is, or how many of those amps are powering those onboard lights that vacuum cleaners need when you are often vacuuming in the dark. What you want to know is the CFS (cubic feet per second) of suction. The Sanitaire has great suction power, and I would challenge any other vacuum manufacturer to beat it.I ended up replacing the Shake-out bag with a different bag that takes bags. It's an extra expense ($20 for the cloth bag and an ongoing expense for the disposable bags), but I think it's worth it. I read that shaking out the bag is a pain in the butt. And once I received the vacuum cleaner, I can see why. The opening isn't that big. And I know I would never have gotten out all the dog hair and stuff. Ick. So I ended up getting Eureka F & G Upright Vacuum Bags (18 pk) and the Sanitaire Upright Vacuum Cleaner Cloth Outerbag from Amazon. The disposable bags are said to last about 6 months each. So far I've had mine a month (in a 2 dog, 1 cat, 1 boy, and 1 husband household) and I can't feel the dirt in the bag yet. I'm as surprised as hell because I thought I would go through one bag per month with the amount of times (3-ish per cleaning) I had to empty that Hoover canister!Buy this vacuum and you won't be disappointed. It's old school, but hey, why reinvent a wheel that works?!

We love these vacuums. I own an office cleaning company and we buy 10 of these every year. They have a great beater bar and roller brush which lifts the dirt, sweeps it and sucks it up. It has an adjustable height setting which makes for better cleaning and easy of moving. The round style belts don’t last as long, so we keep a spare belt with every vacuum. It’s got long electric cord which we supplement with a 50’ extension cord. It’s has a shake bag so no need to spend money on throwout bags or no chance of running out of bags. Great product at a bargain basement price!

So we got almost a shag carpet put in when our long haired, black lab was like 5 months old. So we asked our carpet guys what they suggest. And literally. It’s the best suction on a vacuum ever. We also have a ton of sand and a ton of hair from our dog and it does the job BEAUTIFULY 😍We have had the vacuum and and carpet for 8 months now and it still is amazing. I literally vacuumed last night and told my husband how soft the carpet was when I was finished. Highly suggest it. I also works in concrete or tile. Seriously, best thing ever.My husband put it together very easily when it arrived. It’s old school to open the bag to dump, so it took us a minute to figure out- but super easy when you know what you are doing.Not heavy. Very easy to maneuver. It doesn’t have extensions though. So we kept our old cheaper vacuum to get the base boards and tight places.Our carpet installers suggested it and use it at work and at their homes.

I just got this vacuum, and the truth is, there is no such thing as a perfect vacuum. We have a house cleaning business, and so far, I have come to the following conclusion. This his a pretty good vacuum. Here are some of the pros and cons.Pros:-It's very light-Easy to assemble-Quiet-Awesome suction-Good ValueCons:-Doesn't work on stairs, (most commercial vacuums don't)-The shake free bag is very messy, and impossible to completely clean-Some of the parts look easily breakableMost of my friends say that they use the carpet pro light model and say that the handle breaks too often and it's 20 lbs heavier. I think for a vacuum under $200, I got a good deal.

Great vacuum for the price. I also have the SC899F, which has the 7 amp motor. This vacuum with 5 amps is more than powerful enough for all the carpets I've used it on (I clean carpets for a living).The SC899 is a little over-powered in some situations (not in a good way), but the SC679J has just the right balance between power and size to be more maneuverable, and ample power (with very good airflow) to clean carpets that the larger SC899 tries to eat.The wood brush roll (with bushings, not bearings) works well, but can be difficult to re-install when taken out for cleaning. This is solved by applying WD40 to the rubber end cushions and carefully re-inserting the brush roll until fully seated in the body again (the wood can swell in certain seasons, and shrink in others so it can vary in size slightly).The shake-out bag system is fairly easy to clean, just take it outside and carefully turn it inside out, vacuum it with a hose and brush, or gently sweep the dust with a whisk broom to clean the fabric. Turn it back right side out and clean the outside. It only takes a few minutes when you get the hang of it.These "dirty air" vacuums rely on airflow to work so resist the temptation to try and create a seal by lowering too much (leave a small gap for air to be pulled into the vacuum above the carpet), and you'll see small particles being drawn in from a few inches in front and around the vacuum head.While perfect as it is for home use, I recommend upgrading the brush roll at some point to the VGII for an improvement in overall performance, but again this is optional if you use this vacuum frequently.BTW, this one does not have the quick clean fan chamber (where two screws reveal the fan and the chamber for easy cleaning and replacement) so when eventual cleaning must be done, you have to remove the motor, which isn't a big deal, there are videos online to demonstrate this if you look for them.It does come with an extra belt, but I've cleaned with mine for weeks now and am still on the original belt, so if you don't run the vacuum too low the belts can last a long time.This is an exceptional vacuum for the price, but it takes adjusting to using this type of vacuum if you have been using the more common plastic vacs which have the motor behind a bag (or dustcup and cyclone) and must pull through all that and hoses to get to the cleaning head. This motor is right down by the opening, and uses airflow (with a large fan) to create a negative air pressure to pick up dirt. So you have to fiddle with the height adjustment to ensure a balance of airflow and agitation. This is easy to learn and creates superior deep cleaning when you get it right. Don't be fooled by the price, this one is worth at least twice the price they're asking...

I had an older Hoover Caddy Vac that I thought did a decent job. The Hoover served a long life, but the brush roll and other small parts were getting worn, and impossible to find. I looked forever to find a vacuum that would be durable and serviceable. I hate throwing things away if they can be fixed, not just because I am cheap, but it is a waste of resources. Last, I wanted an upright vacuum with a paper bag. I wanted a vaccum that would be good for dog hair. I didn't need attachments, gizmos, or expensive bags/filters that need constant attention. I don't particularly want to see all the dirt in a clear container like many vacs have nowadays. (YUCK)The Sanitaire fit all the criteria above and was cheaper than the newfangled bagless vacuums. I bought a F&G conversion bag, an upgraded Vibragroomer II brushroll ,and it still was cheaper than a low line cheap plastic vacuum at most stores. Sure this vac looks low tech, and it probably is, but performance doesn't depend upon looks. I actually like the looks of it, it reminds me of my grandmas and mom's sweepers from the 1970s.Now onto the performance, it is terrific. I completely FILLED a F&G bag in one sweeping on about 800 Sq Ft of carpet that had been vacuumed regularly (couple times a week) with the Caddy Vac! If you have ever seen a F&G bag they are HUGE, probably twice as big as most normal sweeper bags. I could not believe how much dog hair and other junk came out of the carpet. In the week since, I have swept daily since I got this sweeper and I have almost filled another whole bag. The Vibragroomer brush has brought back the nap of the carpet. This carpet was fairly new when I moved into this house about a year ago, and it looks like new again.Needless to say I am extremely pleased with this sweeper! I would encourage people to take a look at this inexpensive yet strong performer. This is my second Sanitaire. The other which is about three years old is used at a commercial janitorial account and has been great. I am a carpet cleaner and this one was purchased to pre-vacuum carpet cleaning jobs. I also purchased the bag that uses paper bags because I am not a fan of the shake out bag, it's messy and doesn't filter quite as good.These vacuums generally last many years and unlike the cheap "throw aways", you can easily buy parts to keep them running.You will go through belts on these regularly, it's just part of it and not really a big deal.The brush roll is good and works, but not great. An upgrade can be purchased for about $15 and will turn a very good vacuum into a great vacuum.Bottom line - Even with upgrading the brush roll and the bag, you will have an excellent vacuum that will outlast those "big name" vacuums out there.

UPDATE: I absolutely hate this thing. About 3 months after purchase, I started feeling some resistance while vacuuming, and smelling something burning. I took it apart, cleaned it, and replaced the belt, and it's never worked the same as when I first got it. It has now chewed/burned through 6 replacement belts in a couple of months. The belt slips, the rollerbrush doesn't get pet hair out of rugs anymore, it kicks most stuff out of the back instead of sucking it up. It's basically useless after less than six months of use. I contacted Sanitaire customer support via e-mail, and they're insisting that I need to call customer support to troubleshoot. I've been troubleshooting to kingdom come for some time now. They claim that this is the only way for me to utilize the warranty, but I hate this stupid thing so much, I'd honestly rather trash it and buy something else than waste any time with their warranty process. I'm sure I'd have to zip tie, tape, and generally rig the replacement as well. Look at the reviews that correlate with the issues I've had regarding constantly replacing belts, loose screws, and overall failure of this unit. Don't buy it. I wish I didn't.ORIGINAL REVIEW: I've had this vacuum for a couple of months now, so I feel like I can write a solid review based on general daily use (housekeeping). I'll update when it breaks or goes out.I'm happy with this vacuum overall. I work for an eco friendly cleaning service, and I buy most of my own supplies and equipment. I use a canister vac for hardwoods and other non carpeted flooring, but it just doesn't cut it when it comes to rugs and carpets with imbedded pet hair and such. My previous residential hoover with all the newfangled attachments broke within six months of daily use. Enter the Sanitaire!I wanted to keep my costs down, and this unit fit the bill and has a shake out bag to boot. Putting it together wasn't too difficult. It's definitely not a complicated design. A bit awkward at first, in figuring out how to empty, and in general feel, but you get used to it. The metal bar actually slides off the top of the bag, and the whole bag opens up to be shaken out! Pretty cool, and effective.My first problem, which was really my fault.. I could easily go a month without emptying it, and I use it about five days a week. The bag is huge. I thought that was pretty dope and tra la la'd on. Before too long, it hit.. The stink. There's no filter that I'm aware of, and since I use it mostly for animal hair and funky rugs, it got raunchy pretty quickly. I'm talking RAUNCHY. The air passes through the bag, so it just blew that hot garbage smell all over client's houses. Easily remedied.. Empty it out fairly often, and it's fine. I throw a few dryer sheets in to combat my laziness, and it's no longer an issue. Just a warning in case you're in my line of work!Now, for the biggest gripe. The gripe to end all gripes.. the freaking screws that hold the handle together. Only one side can be screwed on with a philips, and the other is smooth. So, nearly impossible to grip to screw in properly, and either way, this baby is powerful. It roars. So, the kind of wibbly wobbly screws tend to just fall out with all of the vibration. This has happened three times.. despite me checking and attempting to tighten them regularly. I always managed to find them, but no less infuriating when you're in the middle of a job and your vacuum handle starts acting like a limp noodle. This was actually an easy fix at the end of the day. I finally went out, spent two bucks on some zip ties and threaded two through each hole. Much sturdier than before. Threw the stupid screws in the trash.Should you have to zip tie it together? Probably not. That part is just shoddy design, as far as I'm concerned. But I'm still happy I bought it, and feel it was worth the money I spent. My only other complaint is that there's no swivel hook/easy release for the cord, so I have to stand there and unwrap the cord everytime.. which takes all of thirty seconds. But still.. thirty seconds every time I use it that I stand there and wish that it had an easy release for the cord!

Good Value for money, simple to use, simple to empty bag, sturdy but light weight. Powerful suction and makes ur job lottt easier and quicker. Overall satisfied with the design and quality of the product and its good value for money.

It is a strong vacuum the only problem I found it’s the cable holder, it’s gets broken so easy, other than that it’s a really good product.
