Multiple uses!
I originally purchased Mystery Oil for my new maple butcher block countertop, after doing due-diligence research and reading extensive reviews. It does what it's supposed to do on butcher block: moisturizes. However, I probably don't oil it as frequently as I should (maybe once per month?) and it gets a lot of (ab)use as a cutting board, so I think it could use a thicker and more protective product. I'm going to try Boos Block Board Cream with Beeswax (and since I'm an experimenter, I've also ordered Howard Butcher Block Conditioner as a comparison). HOWEVER, what I wasn't expecting is that Mystery Oil works amazingly well in two other applications: wood furniture and soapstone! It is fantastic on my antique maple, pine, and cherry furniture--much better than lemon oil. It penetrates and moisturizes better, leaving a beautiful semi-glossy finish that lasts longer than a lemon oil application. On my soapstone kitchen countertops it's perfect: during application it seems silkier than straight mineral oil. I simply smooth on a thin layer of the oil with a microfiber cloth (dedicated to Mystery Oil application and never washed), allow it to soak in for a few hours, and then rub down the countertops with a clean cloth to remove any excess, leaving a soft, non-oily glow. As anyone who has soapstone countertops knows, they can dry out and appear dull (which is not a bad look, actually), and soapstone is also soft and scratches easily. An application of Mystery Oil and all scratches and marks disappear, while water beads up and is easily wiped away.

Revives and beautified
Ive never really used a wood oil so I wasn’t sure what to expect, however this product is great. I bought some wooden bowls and trays at an estate sale and once I sanded them a little, I used the oil, wow they shined. The bowls and trays looked almost brand new. I’ve also used this on my wood cutting boards as well.

Time Alone Will Tell...
After doing far to much research on cutting boards, I dropped a hefty chunk of change of what may turn out to be the best cutting board in the known universe...I bought myself a Proteak 20" x 15" x 1-1/2" Rectangular Edge Grain Cutting Board, and I want to keep it looking as beautiful as it is right now, for a long long, long time, Hence, my purchase of this product. You see, not only did I try to find the best board, I also tried to find the best oil to protect it with, and based on user reviews, I went with the John Boos Mystery Butcher Block Oil. What makes it so special must be the "mystery", because as far as I can tell, It hasn't done much more to the surface of the wood than my one dollar bottle of food quality mineral oil that I got at my local dollar store...but...time will tell. I use my cutting board nearly every day, and it has fast become a member of the family, joining us at the dining room table more times than any other board that I have ever owned (and I am an old lady who had been cooking since 1970, so I have had a LOT of cutting boards over the years), so I figured that the best cutting board ever certainly deserved something better to wear than dollar store mineral oil. Since my board arrived with an amazingly satin smooth finish, coating it with this oil did not show any instant improvement, but I am hopeful that over the years, the Mystery Oil will work wonders, and help me to keep my cutting board surface looking as nice as it looks now...give or take its battle scars, of course. Although I can't see any instant results produces by the use of this product, I gave it a four star rating because I am optimistic that it will eventually prove itself to be worth the cost. After all, a top rated cutting board deserves to be treated with top rated products. Time alone will tell...

John Boos Block Board Cream , along with John Boos Mystery Oil, is all I've ever used on my John Boos Butcher block work table. It ‘s recommended by John Boos Butcher Block Manufacturers and works extremely well. It keeps my butcher block surface like new. Keep it well sealed against moisture and makes it easy to clean between applications. I recommend it for any butcher block. It's easy to use. Just follow recommended instructions.

Consistency and Elbow Grease get you great results with this oil
I have tried a variety of products to protect my wood items and find this product to be one of the best. There really isn't a short cut to protecting chopping blocks, boards, islands or wooden utensils. It takes your elbow grease plus consistency. My husband enjoys eating his breakfast while reading the newspaper every morning at our kitchen island. Needless to say, paper ink is left behind on the island. Know the problem? Well, I now have a towel my husband puts down on the island and that does help. What helps even more is regular cleaning and application of this oil. The elbow grease Specifically, I pour a good amount into a small glass bowl and warm in the microwave after I've cleaned the island top. Next I take a soft cloth and, dipping the cloth in the warmed oil, generously spread the oil evenly around the entire top a well as the sides in circular motion. I usually do this at the end of the day and at this point leave everything to soak as long as reasonably possible. This is usually when I also take the time to wipe down chopping boards, cooking utensils, etc., since my hands are oily anyway. By the way, as a bonus - I find the oil to be very kind to my cuticles and hands, too! If you don't like that oily feeling, gloves are great to use! Next comes the elbow grease. Using a clean cloth I rub the oil into the wood following the grain. This takes time to do. This is also when you begin to see the beauty of your work. I've found this particular brand excellent at soaking in and then providing a nice protection without sticky residue as well as leaving no oily smell behind. Two qualities I have not found using other similar products. Bottom Line: If you are looking for an oil that provides protection and delivers nice results, this is the product to try!

Wonderful product!
So good!! We generally maintain our butcher block well, but recently ran out of the beeswax we were using. This stuff combined with the cream did a really nice job of bringing up the shine on it. Have since used it on my wooden cutting boards, utensils, and even our kitchen table. 10/10!

Expensive but does it's job.
Excellent product, wish there were Indian makes to choose from but if you need food grade mineral oil this seems to be the only item available. If someone reading this knows of an Indian outlet that sells food grade mineral oil please leave a reply.

Ottimo olio per taglieri
Olio inodore e facile da stendere. Dopo l’applicazione il tagliere appare subito più bello, con venature e colore più pieni. Mantiene il legno in buono stato e lo protegge dall’acqua e dagli odori. Ottimo prodotto, consigliato. Lo ricomprerò sicuramente.
