Casio Exilim EX-ZR100 Digital Camera - Black (12.1MP, 12.5x Optical Zoom) 3 inch LCD

I have previously owned two different Casio Exilim cameras (an EX-S3 (3MP) and an EX-S600 (6MP), and reading reviews of various cameras in this resolution and price range the only negative review I could find was about the interface; I can safely say the interface is pretty much the same. That said, I do like the interface (I'm familiar with it I guess) but I do occasionally find it hard to find the exact menu item required; given the number of functions the camera supports I guess it just takes a little getting used to.In terms of functions, the camera takes some excellent photos in various modes and in a variety of lighting settings. The HDR mode has made a colleague jealous when compared to his high-end Canon SLR! Okay, I'm sure the Canon will beat it in almost all other regards, but the Exilim EX-ZR1000 camera costs 1/6th that of the Canon...For those wanting the convenience of a small camera (i.e. no lugging around of big body cameras and/or SLR lenses), packed full of functionality, the ability to record movies (in full 1080p HD, although I have yet to do that) and spend under £250, then this camera is definitely the answer for you.One last item to note is that, as with all high-speed / high-resolution cameras, a fast memory card is ESSENTIAL (and especially when using the Exilim's HDR and CS modes), and only a decent Class 10 SDHC (or better) memory card will do - anything less will not give you the best from this camera...

This is a fabulous cutting-edge digital camera great for taking pictures, but not so good for taking video clips (particularly slow motion). The 12.5x optical zoom is exceptional and coupled with this the Multi Frame SR Zoom (separate to the digital zoom) makes the overall zoom 25x with clarity. The new panorama function is quick and accurate.The brilliant new HDR ART function is very addictive. It produces vibrant art-like photos of scenery and objects, often more interesting to look at when compared to the same shot taken in normal mode.However the video-side of this new camera has some ups and downs. Casio have take a some steps forward and some back!On the upside:-1) In normal mode, you can take video clips AND zoom in at the same time whilst keeping focus. Previous cameras taking video clips forced you to choose the zoom level before starting the clip.2) Also you can take multiple high-speed pictures whilst actually filming a video clip at the same time! I have had mixed success with this feature so far. For people situations (e.g. person receiving a birthday cake) the video and pictures were great. For fast moving situations (e.g. sport) the video was fine but the pictures were blurred.On the downside:-1) The video clips are now in MOV format rather than the better AVI format. Playback quality and editing, particular on a Windows PC, suffers as a result.2) The slow motion video capability has been carelessly ruined. The most widely-used slow-motion toggle mode was 30-120 at 640x480 full screen size. This mode is MISSING from this new camera, which instead only has 30-240 at 432x320 available postage stamp size i.e. quality no good. What this means is that this camera is effectively useless if you want to film sport and toggle between normal motion and slow motion during the clip. The other modes are only useful if you want to take slow motion for the complete duration of the clip. Furthermore Casio tell me that they won't be releasing a patch to fix this.3) Even worse, the little switch at the back of the camera which toggles between slow motion (HS = High Speed) and normal motion modes has been removed! This means cannot switch out of taking slow motion video without going through the menus. The other day I ended up using two different cameras - one for slow motion, one for normal motion!In summary, I highly recommend this camera if you want a small powerful camera for taking great pictures. But if you are into slow motion video like me (e.g. sport) then the previous model Casio EX-FH100 which I own takes far better video clips.

I use it since 2010.Pros:- VERY FAST (pictures at 30fps, movies at 210, 480 and 1000fps). You can get details which are hidden usualy.- good performances in low light (for a compact camera with a small senzor). High speed night picture mode is very efficient.- Panorama and HDR function works great- high optical zoom at a small size (12x).- SR zoom is an interesting and usefull. You get ~25X at an acceptable quality (for me) - it is very usefull when you look for wildlife.Cons:- fisheye efect at 24mm (perhaps it is normal for a small lens with a high zoom)- after ~1 year of use I have got an annoyng spot on the images when I use zoom. I guess it is just bad luck and it is not a common bug but... it happened to me.Overall it is a good compact camera with a lot of interesting features in a small size body.

In its 1,000 frames per second mode it is rather limited. The quality is poor and you view a strip of pictures a few pixels wide. Much better at 480 frames per second or anything approaching more normal recording speeds for videos. I wanted to record high speed water droplets to study their behaviour. I think this sort of study requires a much bigger investments, but in other respects the camera is very useable.

this is a a good solid compact.hdr and hdr art are brilliant features to have on a compact.my family and friends think i am brilliant with photoshop but i will tell them the truth one day.one thing not mentioned in reviews is that you can control the flash intensity which can be very handy when you want to just give something close a blip of flash.there is no such thing as the perfect camera but this comes pretty close.isent back a canon powershot sx40 bridge camera to buy this and i'm glad i did no contest.i have no idea how reliable the camera will be; how long is a piece of string!.video is very good aslong as you don't record at 1000fps and slow it down.i have no regrets buying this camera.

We needed a compact camera to take on holiday which would produce good, clear pictures. We photograph a lot of birds and wildlife and needed an efficient zoom function. This camera certainly lives up to expectations and we are impressed with the quality. We have had no hesitation in recommending it to friends and family.

Love this camera. Nothing matches the ultra fast focus and high speed picture taking. The high speed video is amazing, even though it's not full high def, it works great for sharing videos on FB or YouTube. For the price, nothing comes close to the features.

Utilizzo da tempo macchine fotografiche CASIO per lavoro (non sono però un fotografo), e nonostante siano poco pubblicizzate le trovo di buona qualità e affidabilità sopratutto per un neofita. Devo dire che prima di acquistarne una ci ho pensato un pò, perchè ho sempre pensato che la CASIO facesse gli orologi e basta, invece mi sono dovuto ampiamente ricredere.Faccio presente che hanno una batteria che dura a lungo e anche se maltrattate (se sbattute o fatte cadere) sono molto robuste.

In diversen Foren und anderen Bewertungen ist an sich schon alles mehrfach (gut) beschrieben worden. Man sollte sich klar vor Augen halten, das es sich um eine Kompaktkamera handelt, sie kann nicht immer zaubern, manchmal, was die Geschwindigkeiten betrifft (Einschaltzeit, Serienbilder usw.) kann man schon an Zauberei glauben, das ist einfach so, wie vom Hersteller versprochen. Auch die Bildqualität ist meinem Eindruck nach richtig gut - bei ausreichend und oder viel Licht. Sobald es in Richtung Dämerung oder ungünstige Lichtverhältnisse geht, zieht die Automatik den ISO - Wert schnell in Richtung 800 und das sieht man dann schon. Aber das ist in der Regel denjenigen bekannt, die unter solchen Bedingungen bewußt fotografieren und eine gute Bildqualität erreichen wollen.Ich würde nachfolgendes als positiv und gut bewerten:Optik, Haptik, Materialanmutung und Handling der Kamera.Bildstabilisator ist sehr wirkungsvoll, immer unter der Voraussetzung möglichst guter Lichtverhältnisse.Sehr großer ausdauernder Akku, man scheint tatsächlich den ganzen Tag mehrere 100 Bilder machen zu können und kommt lange ohne Ersatzakku aus.Videofunktion ohne Fehl und Tadel.Neutral, nicht wirklich schlecht ist eben die Bildqualität bei ungünstigen Lichtverhältnissen, wenn man nicht mit Blitz arbeiten will oder kann, selbst die Bilder mit Blitz sind deutlich neutraler als mit manch anderer zugegeben auch preiswerteren Kamera.In Richtung negativ würde ich mein Programmeinstellrad an der Oberseite bezeichnen, das schlappert und wackelt ganz schön, hat sich auch schon mal unbeabsichtigt von selbst verstellt, ob das so gewollt ist oder ein kleiner Fertigungsmangel - wir werden sehen.Insgesamt würde ich so urteilen: Gute Kamera, sehr gutes Preis - Leistungsverhältnis, immer unter der Maßgabe, das Fotografieren irgendwie von Ab(LICHT)en kommt.Ergänzung am 07.10.2012Nachdem ich eher vermutet hatte, mit dem oberen Einstellrad Probleme zu bekommen, kommt der Ärger nun aus einer völlig anderen Richtung. Eher zufällig stellte ich fest, das der Objektivverschluss selten bis nie die gesamte Linse freigab, ich hatte mich schon auf den Bildern über diverse Schatten gewundert. Da auch ein zweiter Fehler vorlag, nach Nutzung der Serienbildfunktion schaltete sich die Kamera immer selbst ab, entschloss ich mich, die Kamera zwecks Reparatur einzusenden. Die Abwicklung, Ausdrucken der Lieferadresse usw. verliefen zunächst perfekt, wie immer bei Amazon. Dann tat sich aber nichts mehr. Am 07.09.201 wurde die Kamera verschickt, am 18.09.201 meldete sich ein Dienstleister, er benötige zu der Garantiebescheinigung (alles sollte mit eingeschickt werden) zusätzlich eine Rechnungskopie von Amazon. Dort um Rückruf gebeten, sofort erfolgte der auch und ebenso schnell die Zusicherung, die Rechnungskopie mit der Post zu versenden, Fax oder Mail würden wohl nicht möglich sein. Dann war wieder Ruhe, nach 6 weiteren Tagen rief ich wiederum bei Amazon an, dann erklärte man mir, die Versendung der Rechnungskopie dauert 5 bis 10 Tage. Ist schon komisch. Am nächsten Tag kam dann das erwartete Dokument, wurde umgehend per Mail und Fax zum Dienstleister geschickt, seitdem ist wieder große Ruhe. Exakt ein Monat ist vergangen, Kamera ist nicht nutzbar, Abwicklung irgendwie sehr zweifelhaft und langatmig, irgendwie bin ich besseres von Amazon gewöhnt. Ich werde berichten, ob das Ganze (hoffentlich) ein gutes Ende nimmt.Ergänzung am 08.10.2012Eine vom Dienstleister eigerichtete Seite, wo man sich zum aktuellen Stand der Bearbeitung der Reaparatur kundig machen kann funktionierte nicht. Danach versuchte ich per Mail eine Auskunft zu erhalten. Erste Mailadresse - geht nicht, zweite Maiadresse - geht nicht, aber Hinweis auf eine weite Mailadresse. Von der dritten kam dann eine Antwort, Kamera konnte erst am 27.09.2012 in Reparatur genommen werden, ist nun in Arbeit und wird in der nächsten Woche verschickt, hoffentlich ist die nächste Woche nicht die 41.KW, dann wäre die Kamera bereits 5 Wochen unterwegs, tolle Dienstleistung.Ergänzung am 15.10.2012Nach einer Mail am 08.10.2012, wonach die Reparatur des Gerätes sich um 5 Tage verzögern wird, kam am 12.10.2012 eine weitere Mail, wonach die Kamera nun an meine Adresse zurückgeschickt wurde. Heute, am 15.10.2012 konnte ich sie in Empfang nehmen. Unmittelbar ausprobiert große Freude, Fehler ist beseitigt - aber was nun, nun schließt der Objektivverschluß nicht mehr beim ausschalten. Wenn man ca. 5 Sekunden Geduld übt, geht er dann doch noch zu. Ich werde das beobachten, eventuell gibt es sich bzw. ich kann damit leben, wenn man es weiß sicher nicht so dramatisch. Ansonsten war die Kamera 5 Wochen unterwegs, selbst mit viel Verständnis denke ich, das ist zu viel für die Abwicklung einer solchen Dienstleistung.Ergänzung am 21.10.2012Es war irgendwie nur eine Frage der Zeit, das neben dem nun neuen Fehler auch der alte Fehler wieder auftreten würde und so war es auch. Ich hatte gehofft, mich daran zu gewöhnen und darauf zu achten, das nach dem Einschalten das komplette Objektiv freigegeben wird, leider habe ich inzwischen mehrmals diese Kontrolle verpasst und das negative Ergebniss (Schatten) erst wieder am Bildschirm bemerkt. Ich habe bei Amazon angerufen, wollte an sich bitten, die Rücknahme der Kamera zu prüfen, man war aber sofort zur Rücknahme bereit und hat mir die erforderlichen Aufkleber und Unterlagen zur Rücksendung zugemailt. Das ist eben ein Topservice. Muß mich kurzfristig zu einer neuen Kamera entscheiden - Urlaub steht vor der Tür. Werde mal eine Nacht drüber schlafen, mal sehen ob es noch einmal eine Casio wird, Kamera ist und dazu stehe ich gut bei einem sehr guten Preis-Leistungsverhältnis. Kundendienst ist aber leider unterirdisch.
