Kenneth Jay Lane: Faking It

This book is invaluable for the vintage jewelry aficionado or dealer.Gorgeous images!A bonus for me... This edition was SIGNED BY Mr. Lane!!! There was no mention of this, when I purchased it (used, great condition)... but upon opening the cover...lo and behold...the signature! Swoon.Many thanks for that bonus.

I really like many of the designs that Kenneth J. Lane has produced over the years and loved having a reference book of all his different styles and periods. The prose is of a chatty style that I usually am not too fond of but Mr. Lane is so upbeat and aware of the good fortune that has blessed him that you can't help but like him. The photography is wonderful and it is fun to see photos of celebrities wearing his jewels. The book could have been stronger if it has an addendix of technical information about the creation of costume jewelry or had a reference as to current pricing of some of Mr. Lane's vintage pieces. But I had many a fun evening looking and reading and will definately keep this book available for several more readings.

A hand-signed edition, this book came in gently used shape at a reasonable price. It's a fun look at the a career of fashion Jewelry maker (using paste rather than real jewels, but still bought up by the likes of Jackie O and others of her ilk) Kenneth Jay Lane, whose fab fakes could cost more than many of the Real Thing, due to his opulent style of craftsmanship and attention to detail. A fun read and a nice book for conversation.

KJL stated on a certain shopping network channel "In after thought, he disliked the title of the book." insofar as he went on about "there is nothing fake or faux about the material or workmanship I use in creating pieces. How the book was mis-interpreted on the word "fake." How he loathe the word "Rhinestones"... as has always used the finest quality CZ made by man. Good lord..between that chronic coughing and him going on abt. title and insulted by other publications when they describe his items (remember... this shopping channels claim to fame is they make the world's finiest CZ. Hence; Crystal infused as oppose to simple glass. This poor host, trying to sell his pieces, looked like she wanted to put a sock in his mouth. I've always collected his pieces; whether estate, flea-market, shopping channel networks. Book didn't interest me. Browsing through, I can upon this book at nice discount/used. The title was the least of his problem. Pictorials are not the best. It was more a book about "The elites that wore his pieces." Disorganized in text/confusing. No year he produced piece. Huge disappointement! This is no reflection on seller as luckily they offered at great price. Had I paid full price, even to return would have been too much to pay for it. Ironically, thought to turn over to local library, but book already states/stamped w. library.

Much better condition than I thought it would be in. Very, very pleased.

This gorgeously photographed book is a collector's item in itself. Told from Mr. Lane's point of view, we are privy to his creative process, inside circles and spheres of influence. The Jewelry covered is from 1960s to the mid-1980s. A must for collectors and hopefuls. Within 2 weeks I was able to pick up a very early Kenneth Lane piece by recognizing it from this book, and at a fantastic price! I have seen this book offered for a variety of prices and was thrilled to find it on Amazon for a reasonable price for a good, signed copy.

just what I was looking for and put to good use in looking up pieces from the 70s - found one that I once owned and was able to learn the proper description in currently looking for it - found it and 100% delighted to have used the book for that purpose. The book is in beautiful used condition and with compliments to the seller.
