Q: Is there a side zipper?

No, there isn't. I like that because zippers can break. We had a big storm this weekend, over 10 inches. I wore these for my two hours of shovelng and my feet were dry and warm.

Q: Are these actually water proof?

Yes and no. Mine got wet, and although my feet didn’t get wet, the outside material cracked the following day.

Q: I wear a 8.5 and all they come in are whole numbers, would i order the 9 instead?

I also wear an 8.5 and I ordered the 9. They fit pretty well. I usually wear them with 2 pairs of socks for extra warmth, so the added room is good

Q: How close to the top is the tongue attached?

It attaches by the 3rd shoe string loop. I love these boots very comfortable!
