Aurora has always enjoyed her simple life. She loves to explore the beautiful woods surrounding her quaint cottage. She even likes living with her bumbling yet well-meaning aunts. But when Aurora discovers a dark secret about her past, her whole world turns upside down. Will she be able to save herself from an imminent curse? This beautiful novel filled with whimsical illustrations tells Aurora's story in the upcoming Disney film, Maleficent . Review: Not your typical Sleeping Beauty story - The Curse of Maleficent: The Tale of a Sleeping Beauty is a wonderful story and fast, fun read for the whole family to enjoy. However, this is not your typically Sleeping Beauty tale and do not expect it to be based on Disney's animated film Sleeping Beauty. This story is a far cry from the animated feature that most know and love. This is the story of Maleficent and how she came to be, why she did what she did and how her interactions with Aurora changed her destiny. I want to make perfectly clear that The Curse of Maleficent and Maleficent are two different books. The Curse of Maleficent is written in the vibe of a fairy tale from different perspectives for families to enjoy . Maleficent is based off the live action movie and has a much darker theme than this book. So be warn when choosing which one to read to your children as The Curse of Maleficent is for younger readers while Maleficent is gear more towards an older audience of children. The Curse of Maleficent is written in third person and from three different view points; Robin (a fairy), Knotgrass (also a fairy) and Aurora. I will not go into specifics so as not to ruin the story but these three characters' view the story of Maleficent from an outside perspective and show how Maleficent's actions effect them. The story is beautifully told from these three characters who are well-rounded characters. The story is fast pace and fill of fantasy. The illustrations of the book will delight any child or fan of Disney's new take on the story of Sleeping Beauty. Do not expect it to be like the animated film. I will hope anyone who reads this story will enjoy it as much as I have. Review: Brilliant! - A fantastic story, reimagining the Sleeping Beauty story from Maleficent's point of view. Adds a whole new depth and background to familiar but largely unknown character. We always knew what she did, but never why. Now this story explores a possible reason for Maleficent's actions. I love the accompanying artwork.

I LOVE BOTH BOOKS!
I LOVE IT! BOTH THE NOVEL FROM THE LIVE ACTION FILM AND THIS BOOK HERE-THE CURSE OF MALEFICENT; THEY ARE KIND OF DIFFERENT, BUT, YET, THE SAME. BUT FUNNY THING THOUGH, IN THIS BOOK THAT I DID NOT FIND IN THE OTHER NOVEL FROM THE LIVE ACTION, ONE OF THE 3 PIXIES TELLS AURORA, "THE HELL YOU ARE!" NOW WHY DO THEY PUT THAT IN A CHILDREN'S NOVEL? IT SHOCKED ME TO FIND THAT IN THERE. I DON'T REMEMBER THE PIXIE SAYING THAT IN THE LIVE ACTION NOVEL. BUT, NONE THE LESS, I LIKE THEM BOTH, AND THE LIVE ACTION FILM AS WELL; I CAN REALLY RELATE TO MALEFICENT HERSELF AND I FEEL JUST LIKE HER SOMETIMES; I SEE MYSELF IN HER-(MALEFICENT). NOW THAT MALEFICENT IS THE HERO, THEN PERHAPS HER NAME SHOULD BE CHANGED TO SOMETHING ELSE SINCE MALEFICENT MEANS TO BRING HARM AND EVIL; DON'T YOU THINK? MAY GOD BLESS EVERYBODY! I CAN ALSO ACT OUT HER CHARACTER REAL GOOD AS WELL-MALEFICENT.

The artwork is excellent!
I bought this for the illustrations :). What can I say? I'm an illustrator and I like pictures! Nicholas Kole is really amazing and each picture in the book is really excellent. If you like them too you should look for his blog online because I think you will get a better idea of how amazing those illustrations really are! The printing leaves a little to be desired though. The pictures are all printed slightly dark but I blame that on the paper. And, because the book is hard bound and thick the illustrations get lost in the gutter a bit. I hope Disney uses Nicholas for other stuff and I hope they feature his work better in the future!

I love this book
When I first watched sleeping beauty I knew that there was so much potential for a deeper story I mean what kind of dad sends there kid away for 16 years and showing up uninvited to a christening and cursing a child is not just a random act of evil it is a calculated act of revenge and true loves kiss doesn’t come from a guy you just met and barely know plus why doesn’t Maleficent have wings she is a faerie I mean there are probably some faeries don’t have wings but most do and in common lore powerful faeries like Maleficent ( she did place a curse that couldn’t be reversed on a princess) had wings.

Marvelous art by Nicholas Kole!
This book is published by Disney Editions. It's the adaptation from the recent Disney movie "Maleficent" and it presents us with marvelous art by Nicholas Kole. If you have enjoyed the film, inside this book there's a kind of a light version of the story being presented with some cool and appealing illustrations. And for the price of the book as of this time, it surely is highly recommendable to be on a collection.
