Best invention for tofu ever!
I was recently told by my doctor that I should adopt a vegan diet to make things easier for my heart. Tough news for a guy who likes to smoke a beef brisket for 16 hours. It looked like tofu would be an important part of my diet, so I had to learn how to make it taste good. Up to now, tofu played a very minor role due to its bland and slightly funky taste. I started looking at recipes and finally found a comment on pressing tofu to improve it's ability to absorb a marinade. The article also said removing excess water would also make it taste better. I searched Amazon for a tofu press to read the reviews. The EZ Tofu Press looked like the best tool out there, and it also had a cool industrial vibe that I liked. The press was delivered quickly, with no postage, thanks to Amazon Prime. I always like sellers who use this feature. It makes them seem more friendly to me. They care about their customers. When I unwrapped it, I immediately liked the quality of the components. Two hefty slabs of food safe plastic, with good quality stainless steel hardware. Plastic. It was not as fancy as some of the other options, but I liked the simplicity of the design. I'm a designer myself, and we call this an elegant design, with "good bones". It does what it's designed to do, and nothing else. It works simply with no fuss. The EZ Tofu Press is easy to use and clean, and there are no parts to wear out. I put a block of firm tofu between the plastic slabs and tightened the wing-nuts until water started to drain out into the sink. I waited a few minutes and tightened it up a bit more while I made a sugar free sweet and sour marinade. After about 30 minutes, the tofu was about half its original thickness. I unscrewed the screws and sliced the tofu into strips, and put them in a ziplock bag with the marinade for an overnight soak in the fridge. The next day I put the tofu strips on a Silpat silicone baking sheet in a 425 degree oven for 20 minutes, turning them over half way through. The marinade made a shiny glaze on the tofu, and the inside was creamy!! It was like a hot custard, nicely infused with the flavors of the marinade. This was a big surprise for me. I didn't know tofu could do this. I do recommend eating them while they are hot. The texture changes a bit when cooled. Still nice, but not as good as fresh-out-of-the-oven. I am still experimenting with techniques, and the EZ Tofu Press is now my favorite tool. Highly Recommended!

Game changer for tofu lovers!
As someone who eats plant-based (no animal products), tofu is a staple in my kitchen. For years, I’ve been using all sorts of contraptions to press the liquid out of tofu—stacking plates, using heavy cans, and even balancing books precariously. It was messy, time-consuming, and never effective. I finally decided to invest in the EZ Tofu Press, and I couldn’t be happier! This tool is an absolute game-changer. It’s incredibly easy to use and gets the job done quickly. In just a few minutes, it removes a significant amount of liquid, allowing the tofu to soak up marinades and flavors beautifully. The result? Firm, flavorful tofu every time! If you’ve been struggling with DIY methods like I was, do yourself a favor and get this press. It’s worth every penny and has made cooking with tofu so much more enjoyable. Highly recommend!

Simple and effective device
I bought my first block of tofu a few weeks ago. I had researched what firmness to get, but I failed to notice that it also needs to be pressed until I brought it home. Tofu is stored in brine that needs to be squeezed out so the tofu can soak up the liquids of whatever you cook it with. I checked amazon for presses and noticed that this was one of the cheaper ones with good ratings. At first it looked like I could make one of these myself, but I decided it'd be quicker and easier not to get into a DIY project while I had tofu waiting on me. After using the EZ-Tofu Press 3 or 4 times, I have come to appreciate what a good value it actually is. The design is incredibly simple, but the whole thing was assembled by someone who obviously knew what they were doing. The craftsmanship is solid. The whole thing is easy to clean and the screws move smoothly. I am finding this device as invaluable as my rice cooker when it comes to preparing Indian food. Like most specialty kitchen devices, its value depends on how much it's used. If you are only buying tofu for a single occasion, it may not be worth it to get a press. If you know you like tofu and would like to incorporate it into your diet occasionally, this is a very handy piece of equipment to have around. Saves a lot of time, effort, and messes.

Works great!
I've kept our tofu away from the springs since reading other reviews about how hard it is to clean that area so I haven't had that problem. I do wish I could take it apart to clean it though. It's a little tough to get a handled sponge in there. As for performance and ease of use, it's great. We've been able to get much more liquid out of our tofu than we thought possible. Instead of leaving it on a plate, we prop it over a cereal bowl, make sure the tofu is positioned correctly so it all falls into the bowl, and leave it for 3-5 mins, checking on it periodically to squeeze it down a bit more. I've seen other reviewers' press bend but we haven't had that problem. I do use my hands to help flatten the tofu between the boards before screwing it into place though so maybe that's a simple fix? In any case, I'd buy it again if need be or give it as a gift.

How did I ever live without this tofu press?
Love, love, love this gadget! I cringe when I think of all the paper towels I've wasted over the years. I actually bought 2 of these presses so I could squeeze two blocks of tofu at the same time...they came in so handy this past Thanksgiving when I made a tofu loaf. I actually use my EZ Tofu Presses at least 3 times per week...and I discovered a great way to catch the water without taking up a lot of countertop space with plates or bowls. I use the (House brand) plastic containers that the tofu is packaged in! The presses balance perfectly upright in the containers (see photo) and I don't have to wash any plates or bowls afterward...just dump the containers in the recycling bin! I've also tried all types of (House brand) tofu with this press (soft, medium, firm and extra firm) and it works like a charm. Obviously, you have to be careful with the softer stuff since you could easily squish it into a mess, but if you want to remove a bit of the water from the soft or medium, it can be done with this press. It does work best with firm and extra firm though. If you eat tofu, you simply must have one of these presses...but I recommend buying two! Update: I wrapped a block of House soft tofu in a couple of layers of cheese cloth and placed it in the EZ Tofu Press. It worked like a charm! I was able to remove nearly all of the liquid from the tofu without it turning into a huge squashed mess inside the press. The texture became a lot more firm as well. So if your favorite tofu is on the soft side, wrap it entirely in at least 2 layers of cheese cloth before using the press!

Must-have doe tofu fans! Quick, easy, and sturdy.
I ordered this 2 1/2 years ago and tried to make tofu once. I didn’t know how to properly cook it, so I abandoned it. Six months ago I cut meat out of my diet and found a ton of tips and recipes for tofu and this thing is amazing. I freeze firm tofu and slice it in half horizontally and this thing will get an insane amount of water out. My tofu pieces are firm enough to be handled roughly. I can screw it almost entirely shut and the tofu just bounces back up. I can use less marinade because it soaks it up so well - you can really tell when you have a dark marinade. It also takes no time at all vs loading towels and pans and books on your tofu and waiting. This is a great gift for anyone you know who eats tofu - I love it. It is sturdy as heck and has screws and bolts that look nothing like what normally comes on a kitchen gadget. I’m pretty sure they’re bigger and stronger and better quality than the ones holding my refrigerator and oven together.

Change Your Life with This.
I can’t believe I went so long putting tofu straight in the pan. I saw Jenna Marbles and her boy Julien cooking some good food and that video convinced me that I needed to try pressing the liquid out of my tofu first for optimal texture. Like the peasant I am, I used a textbook and a bunch of paper towels my first time around and kind of tore up the whole brick. It improved the tofu’s pan fry quality substantially. I then decided it was time to get the real deal and live like royalty. I bought this, received it, read the directions, and used it as intended. Best overly specific kitchen gadget I own. The boards are cutting board material making cleaning a breeze. Dish soap and water. Dishwasher safe if you feel obligated. Never have issues with the tightening fixtures. I personally center the tofu between the boards and tighten until the tofu is secure. Then I flip it on the side because I don’t have a container big enough to fit it flat to catch the drippings. Side note my cat LOVES to drink the water from the tray I drain it in to. Haha Good simple product. Recommend to every friend.

If you must press your tofu, this is a great choice
Let me start off my saying that you don't need a tofu press to make delicious tofu. Patting it as dry as much as you can is sufficient, as most of the water content is cooked off anyway. A tofu press is great if you're pressed for time (pun intended) and want your tofu to cook faster, or if a specific recipe calls for it and swears by it. That being said, this makes the process of pressing tofu so much easier, cleaner and hassle free. No more occupying a large pot filled with water, or a stack of pots, or books, or whatever your go to pressing method is. No more using ridiculous amounts of paper towels or dish towels. You just shove your block of tofu in here, tighten the screws, lay it in a plate, tray or directly in the sink on its side, and boom, you have pressed tofu. Since you gradually tighten the screws every few minutes, it's way more gentle or the tofu than a stack of heavy things piled on it, and much easier to drain. It's easy to use, easy to clean and doesn't take up that much room in the kitchen cabinet. If you must press your tofu, this is a great choice and I would recommend using this.

Works great
I had a tofu press that was the box type with a snap-on lid. Almost impossible to make it work! Lid never snapped on properly. Then I looked at a $120.00 press. Nice, but pricey. Then I thought that I would try this one. Still pricey, but on quarter the price of the other one. Works great, fast, and neat. The only issue is that you have to put it in a container, or the sink, to drain the water. It is fantastic! Well worth the money.

If you love tofu you need one of these...
I bought this because I was sick of using up heaps of kitchen paper and then having to wring it out and dispose of it. I also got rather fed up with trying to find sufficiently heavy things the right size to use on top of a block of tofu. This is a very simple design that is easy to clean. You can see what is going on whilst you press the tofu and get the consistency you prefer by tightening or loosening the wing nuts. I like to make crispy tofu with a satay peanut sauce and can now get my tofu sufficiently crispy on the outside. The taste it also richer. I also use it for fajitas and a very cynical carnivore friend (I am vegan) ate them and said they were absolutely delicious. Much less messing around than trying to do it without this gadget and much quicker, too. Although I'd rather it were a little cheaper it is well-made and sturdy. Can't imagine being without it now.
