2-1/2 stars -- If I looked "weak" up in the dictionary...
Down A.K.A Kilo is another rapper that has been making his rounds on the mixtape circuit. I got his hands on his latest release, The Definition of an Ese, and I really wasn't impressed. For one thing, this album has more guests than a block party. Kilo is only alone on one song, "Lean Like a Cholo" (which sort of contradicts the previous song, "Don't Be Jealous"). And many of the songs are honey-sings-the-chorus tracks courtesy of songstress Nikki Diaz, and although SHE sounds fine, Kilo's flow is pretty weak, as evidenced by "G's Need Love Too" and the dated "Be About It". Even the necessary Latin collabo "Just Like You" only features B-Real during the chorus (although it actually isn't a bad song). But I can't say the same for the rest of these tracks. "Got to Hustle" doesn't go anywhere, and "You Ain't Gettin' Nothing" is a gold-diggin' anthem gone wrong. Other songs that failed to hold my interest were the necessary songs for the ladies: "Everlasting Nights" and "I'm Coming Home to You" (featuring the DEY and Nate Dogg, respectively). Kilo has potential but his flow just isn't interesting enough, so don't bother with the album because it's really not a defining moment.Anthony Rupert
