Straight hair for a fraction of the price!
Used this product for years. Don’t pay high price in salon to straighten your hair. I do it myself without help. Simple directions, easy to use. Make sure room is well ventilated though, strong smell during application. My hair is stronger, shinier and so soft. Stays straight for about 6 months! Get the clarifying shampoo too. Use before straightening. Takes all the products you might use out of your hair so you get great results.

Takes some doing but saves me beauoup dollars! Well worth the time and effort.
Oh happy day! Why? Because I'm never paying $200-400 to get my hair done ever ever again. Ever. I don't have any "before" pics, and really if I did, they'd be pointless. My hair's been processed to hell and back for years. I was born with 3a,3b,and 3c-type curls all over my head at once. Soft curls at the front, tighter squiggles in the back, shrubby underneath. It's finely textured but there's a lot of it, giving the illusion that it's thick. I began doing Brazilian Blow Outs five years ago when I moved from the cool northeast to Southern Louisiana - home of the sort of humidity they write books about. New Orleans is a great city, but it's a total hair nightmare nine months of the year. Brazilian blow outs changed my life but they left me chained to a very expensive hair routine. Although an involved, lengthy procedure, the blow outs didn't seem *hard* and I often wondered whether I could do them at home. TURNS OUT I CAN! I was worried about messing it up terribly so I enlisted my husband to help with the back. "Hey honey, can you help me with my hair tomorrow? I'm gonna do the keratin at home." "The what? Well, okay, sure." "We'll need to do it outside." "Whatever." "And we should have a fan." "Mmmmhmmm." "For the burning and the runny eyes." "Sure...wait - what? Burning? What is this stuff?" After calming him down and assuring him it was perfectly safe (the jury is still out on that, though) we set up shop in the yard with a mirror, a fan, a blow dryer, a tail comb, a dye brush, a plastic straightening comb and my trusty Babyliss Nano Titanium 1.75" iron (git you one o'these because they are amazing). The clarifying shampoo might make you nervous because all signs of life and health WILL be sucked out of your hair as if by vacuum. Worry not. This is normal. Application was simple, but I do think he used too much. Aim for saturating each and every hair, but not for making your whole head drippy-wet with the stuff. Apply it in small sections, comb it through with the tail comb, and whatever comes off the comb, wipe it off. No need to completely panic if you over apply: in the end, over-applying only made Day 1 & 2 gummy and strange. Past that it was fine. You're going to want to be in a VERY well ventilated area during the blow dry/flat ironing stage. Even outdoors with a fan it was hard on the eyes and mucus membranes. If you HAVE to do this in an apartment, I suggest doing it in a room other than the bathroom because unless you have an exhaust fan it just might be the last act of your life. Set yourself up someplace where you can open a real window. If you've enlisted the help of a partner, you may have to endure listening to "OHMIGOD WHAT IS THAT SMELL?" and "There is no way that's okay. Please think of your brain cells." and "No, seriously, stop this now or I'm going inside." for however long it takes to dry your hair. The ironing was easy - I used large, wide clips to section parts off, then used the straightening comb to comb through and "hold" sections of the sections (very small sections, mind you; my sections were thin, but wide, because my iron is wide. Make section width based on whatever flatiron you have, but make 'em thin.). At first I thought the comb was unnecessary, but when you're passing a 400F iron over a small section of hair 7-9 times? It's HOT and you do not want to be guiding that hair through the iron with your hand. Buy a spring-loaded straightening comb. Worth the $5. This was stinky, eye-watering business. The fan helped. Ironing the product in was very simple with a mirror. My husband stuck around (ten feet away) but I didn't need help by that point, anyhow. The finished product this first go-round was verrrry disappointing at first. Very gummy, not slick and smooth. Very coated-feeling. I attribute this to over-application. My husband noticed, too. He kept apologizing and said "That is NOT how you look when you come home from that salon.". But after two more days of light ironing before going out - presto: it was perfect. I washed & conditioned it with the stuff that came in the box a week later and it dried super quick and ironed like a breeze. It's got great body, too. I would recommend this product to anyone who has already experienced a professional keratin/Brazilian Blow Out treatment at some point. At least that way you'll know how your hair will behave and you'll have an idea of what to expect. Anyone going into this expecting to have pin-straight hair after washing without having to either blow-dry, flat iron or both should turn right around and buy a traditional straightening product. That's not what this is. You still have to put some work into getting your hair straight, just *a lot* less work than without the treatment at all. This stuff will knock out frizz and leave your hair smooth and silky. It will loosen curls considerably for the first couple of weeks, but as the products wears off, your curls will return. TLDR: Even with our mistake of over-applying I'll still likely get two more applications out of this $79 bottle. Three trips to the salon for the same treatment would cost between $600-800. Absolutely worth a few hours of my time and effort, and worth a little eye-burning. ;)

IT WORKS!
Background Story: I never write reviews but felt obligated to write one for this product because I was skeptical of trusting the other reviewers (not that there's anything wrong with their posts, I'm just a naturally skeptical person especially when trusting online reviewers). I'm not going to lie, I was very nervous to try this when I first ordered it. I spent endless amount of time looking up reviews outside of Amazon, watching youtube videos and trying to find blogs specifically reviewing Keratin Research. As a child, I had naturally thick curly hair...Shirley Temple type hair. But as I got older, plus years of color treatment and frying with hair iron/blowdryer, my hair became extremely frizzy, puffy and wavy. My hair is deceivingly thick and course. On average, it takes me about an hour to (messy) blow dry plus 35 min to flat iron. I used to get the Keratin treatment done at a salon when I lived in Miami because the stylist only charged $150 for my thick head and was referred to me by a close friend who had done the treatment several times with the same lady and has gorgeous hair. I now live in LA and have been struggling for a year to find a salon that would charge me under $250. The most inexpensive price I heard was treatment starts at $200 and goes up from there pending on length and thickness. My hair is up to my shoulders but extremely thick so I was quoted $275 with a 10% first time discount. I decided after price searching to take a leap of faith and see if I could do it myself. For the record, I HAVE NEVER DONE ANYTHING MYSELF TO MY HAIR. I figured I had done the treatment enough times to know the steps, plus with today's digital age, there's plenty of tutorials online. When I received the package, I freaked myself out and decided not to do it so the bottles hung out under my sink for a month until I worked up the courage to try it. What I used: Keratin Research Clarifying Shampoo Keratin Research Keratin Bottle A fine tooth comb ($2 from target) Hair color mixing bowl and application brush ($5 from Sallys beauty supply) A large ceramic round brush (one i stole from my mom years ago, don't know where she got it) 8 duck teeth hair clips Baby bliss pro blow dryer Conair tourmaline hair iron ($65 from target) Hair straightening hair clamp comb ($6 sallys) Regular wet brush (normal prong brush from CVS, i think brand is revlon?) Face Mask and gloves (my husband works in a hospital so he brought those home for me) Application: I started the process at 7pm with the clarifying shampoo. My hair was pretty dirty so I washed it 3x using the clarifying shampoo to make sure all the oil was out. After the 2nd wash, my hair texture felt tougher then usual which is expected of the clarifying shampoo. It was hard to detangle and brush, just as my experiences in the past with salon treatment. My hair took about 40 minutes to blow dry using WARM setting instead of HOT setting on blow dryer. After, i sectioned my hair into 3 pieces and began (heart racing) applying the treatment. I used the application brush and applied the product about an inch away from scalp and half way down my hair on both sides, then used the fine tooth comb to remove excess. As i got closer to the front of my head, i began to smell the fumes but it was manageable (way better then the salon i used to go to in my opinion). After waiting the 20 minutes, i began to blow dry using WARM heat setting (not HOT setting). This process took me the longest because I have very a lot of hair. I used a combination between the round ceramic brush and regular wet brush because i became impatient. This process took about an hour and 15min, I did it outside on the balcony of my apartment with a fan blowing the fumes away. Once hair was completely dry, I began to iron. I went over each piece around 4-5x. This is where you really feel the fumes, however in my personal opinion the fumes were way worse in the salon. When the ironing was over, my hair was very straight, almost too straight for my personal style but thats what the process entails in order to seal the treatment. I left the treatment in for 3 days and ironed my hair (lightly, like 1x each strand) each of those days. I made sure not to put my hair up and just let it stay flat. Results: This product really does work. Same result as salon for half the price. I only used about a third of the bottle so this should last me another 2 treatments. My hair now dries some what acceptable, blow drying and styling time is cut substaintially (it takes me about 25-30 min to blowdry and iron my entire hair), my hair doesn't frizz in the rain, humidity, or with sweat AND most importantly, my hair did not burn off, fall out, or any other the problems. I am really pleased with this product and glad i decided to trust the other reviewers.

Would I buy and do it again?
Some background: My hair is VERY heat damaged. Due to thyroid ussues, it is also VERY dry, brittle and falling. I have THICK wavy hair yet the strands are not thick. Doing this was a last option before chopping my long hair (mid back lenght). I'm also challenged in all thing beauty (don't know how to apply makeup, do my eyebrows or different hairstyles if you get my drift.) I have had 2 professional keratins before and loved the result but don't have that kind of money anymore. Here is how it went for me: First of all it took me a good 3.5 hours (did I mention I was all-things-beauty challenged?) But I didn't want to rush and loose my money or worse, end up bald. The claryfying shampoo left me looking like a tumbleweed. My hair was so dry after that shampoo it was rough to the touch. I almost shaved my head at the point. I blow dried, detangled and got to it. I did wear gloves but didn't have a "coloring brush thingy". I went to my backdoor porch. I was expecting to suffocate and my eyes to burn. My experience was the it actually smells good (like coconut vanilla yogurt). I had done the back part of my hair with no smell. However, the closer I got to my face was when I felt the fumes people speak of on the reviews but since I was outside at 8 am, it was bearable and it didn't take me long to finish at that point since it was only the sides and top of my hair. While straightening, the smell got better. There was a lot of smoke coming out of my hair and by now I was doubting if I was doing all of this right and if it was worth it. When I finished my hair felt a bit "waxy" but also soft and was pin straight and shiny. I was beyond happy with the results. I hadnt been that hapoy with my hair in a long time. I'm on day 2. I will update on what happens after I wash. Would I buy again? Probably. The results are great, my hair is not frizzy or looks dry anymore and it's not even falling off. And I still have a half bottle even with my thick hair!!! I'm expecting it won't last me the full 4-6 months I get out of the salon version because my hair wasn't as bad as it was at this point. But if I can get at least 2 months out of it, it's worth the time and "trouble". I did end up with some aching arms and shoulders but if I did this successfully, anyone (and I do mean ANYONE) can do this! Hope this helps someone.

Love love love
I typically never leave a review but I do read them quiet often when I am looking for something I don't know enough about. I bought this online and it came with in days. I was excited because I had been conemplainting going to the salon but after looking into it they wanted to start 350 dollars and my hair is pretty long so I would imagine it would have been closer to 450. I am overall very satisfied with this product. Based in the reviews there were good and bad. I followed directions washing my hair 3 times with the clarifying shampoo and then blow dryed. When putting on the actual keratin lotion it actually made it feel like I was doing a conditioning treatment. Yes the fumes got to me a little bit. My eyes watered and my throat burned a little bit but I just walked away for a minute and then went back. I was very unsure if I used enough product I didn't want to over saturate or under saturate. As the directions stated I did just comb it through with a fine tooth comb so I was hopefully I had enough in. While waiting the 20 mins my hair started drying and I didn't read that in reviews so I didn't know if I didn't have enough product it. I decided to comb it with 5 mins left just to assure the parts drying had enough solution. Once I started blow drying I did use a comb to blow dry you could smell the fumes again I did have to stop a few times to take a break. Once it was all dry my hair looked like it always did after blow drying. A big frizz ball. When I straighten my hair I normally go from bottom up doing a row at a time so I am used to having to straighten every strand. I did use 2 straighteners my chi is 2" and I have a 1/2 inch one that goes up to 450 degrees. After straightening every strand over and over again I was finally done. My hair did feel greesy which I am not used too. The next day when I woke up still pin straight. I did run my straightener over it a few times just incase. Lasted all day straight. Day 2 woke up still straight. Started going about my day and since it is summer and hot out I had to shower after I was done working. I washed and conditioned my hair with the set that came in this kit and then let it air dry naturally. I can honestly say that my hair has never looked so good after drying naturally. There was still some wave and body on the under neath part of my hair because that's where I had tight curls. My hair typically is very coarse frizz the underneath is very Curley and the top is a mix of wave. I could never leave it Curley because I didn't have nice curls and straightening it takes forever. I am so pleased with how this product transformed my hair. And the best part is it doesn't feel dead or damaged. I would recommend this product. And I will use proberly for life!

MY HAIR IS FALLING OUT LIKE CRAZY!!!!
I was really nervous about trying this. I was afraid it would dry my hair out and make it frizzy, but it hasn’t done that at all! (SEE UPDATE BELOW) I have been straightening my hair by blowing drying it and using a straightening iron for over two years now. After the 2nd day it would start getting frizzy and wavy on me. I have never gotten a straightening treatment at a hair salon being as I cannot afford that. I read the reviews on this and figured I would try it. I just was worried it might ruin my hair. After using this a couple weeks ago….Wow, I am really impressed!! It worked!! Usually when I let my hair air dry I look like a cave woman, but it air dries pretty straight. Now I don’t let it air dry completely. I just let it dry naturally a little before I used the blow dryer, and it didn’t have any frizziness. Then when I blow dried it, it was not frizzy either. It took half the time to do my hair than use to before I used this treatment on it! Now I still have to use a straightening iron, but it doesn’t take hardly any time to do it, and it stays straight longer than it used to. It doesn’t get frizzy either!! I love this!! I will definitely use this again once this starts to wear out of my hair. Glad I tried it, and I will recommend this to my friends that have curly hair and are straightening it. I was worried I would mess it up when I was putting it in my hair, but it wasn’t all that hard to use either. I actually had my husband help me. No, he is not a hair stylist or anything close to that. I figured if anyone can paint a house, they can help put this in someone’s hair. I just made sure I could see what he was doing in a mirror. UPDATE: THIS HAD TOTALLY DESTROYED MY HAIR!! After the second was my hair has started to fall out. It has to be from this treatment being as this was the only thing different I have done to my hair, and it started to fall out after the second time I washed after I used this this! I has dried my hair up horribly!! In the pictured attached you can see exactly how much hair comes out of my head during one wash. The hair is dry in this picture, but this is the amount of hair that came out when I was conditioning my hair. It is horrible, and it makes me scared to death to wash my hair. Even when I am brushing my hair, it comes out pretty bad. I can run my fingers through my hair, and hair will come out easily. What has this done to me hair??? This is exactly what I was afraid was going to happen, but everyone gave such great reviews that I thought it was safe to use. I am worried that my hair is going to end up being see-thru now!!! I am using hair vitamins with biotin, but is this going to save my hair? I knew this was not safe!! I have never done anything like this before because of the chemicals in hair treatments like this, so I should not have trusted this just because of the reviews that others were giving. Now my hair may be totally destroyed!!!! Don't go by the other reviews on here if you value your hair! Yes, it straightened my hair, but I may not have much hair left if it keeps coming out like it is!!!!

UPDATED: the product has changed.
Update March 2020: so the product clearly changed. The fumes were much worse and the burn was much worse this time as well. Look at the label and low and behold their new formulation contains formaldehyde. I did get similar results so I’m not totally displeased but it is false advertising. So looking at what my hair was like in September to now (2 treatments & 6 months later) there is a dramatic difference in the health of my hair. Of course I also stopped bleaching it and went back to my natural color but I still dye it professionally regularly. There is a huge difference in just 6 months. I also take biotin so it’s hard to tell what caused the growth (2 haircuts since beginning) and thickness. Because of this I’m changing my review back to 5 stars. The formadelhude clearly works so I guess it’s not that bad. Just do it in a very open room. September 2019: Wow! I’m blown away by these results. I’m so glad I listened to the reviews. Pls read. I have fine, short, damaged hair. Bleached & toned & colored a million times over the past 8 years off and on. (I do use tons of products to keep my hair safe so it could be worse- just haven’t had a haircut in several months). I also use hair extensions (tape in 100% human hair) which can wreak havoc on hair as well. I haven’t ever had a natural shape to my hair (to straights to be wavy, too wavy to be straight) & now I finally have truly straight hair. After shampooing the treatment out (I waited 17 hours) & blow drying, it was instantly straight and super soft and silky! Still need a haircut so it didn’t “repair” my ends but it definitely didn’t do any further damage!! HOWEVER this is insanely fumey. It didn’t “smell” as much as it did BURN. My throat, eyes, nose. But it was worth it. Work in a well ventilated area with fans on and you’ll be fine. I’m recommending this to all my friends & purchasing another for my mom!

This Product Worked Well For My Type of Hair
Complex Brazilian Keratin Hair Blowout Treatment really worked for me. I purchased it several months ago and I was very skeptical to try it. I thought it would not work or that it would be difficult to do the treatment myself. I have fine, wavy hair and because I'm aging (I'm 54), there is less hair on top of my scalp now. I don't get pretty curls or waves when my hair dries naturally. I get thin frizzy waves. Going to the beach, or being in humid weather is awful. It curls up in weird ways. So, I decided to try this since I tend to do the Brazilian Blow Outs pretty regularly. I wanted to see if I could save some cash with something that worked for others. I'm really glad I tried it as it did soften and relax my hair to the point where it did not curl up weird. This product will not leave your hair stick straight though. It also contains formaldehyde which some people are concerned about. The amounts are not high enough to deregulate though. Here's what I did: I washed my hair twice with the clarifying shampoo and followed the instructions. I wore a disposable face mask and gloves. I used a brush and worked the product through my hair, one small piece at a time from root through ends (do not apply to the point where it is dripping as it will coat the hair heavily and you'll end up with oily looking hair). I followed as instructed and left it on the required length of time. IMPORTANT: Because this product contains formaldehyde and other chemicals (any liquid that straightens hair is a chemical) you will need to heat your hair in an area that is well ventilated. I used a fan to blow the fumes out of my slider window. Do this when you begin to blow-dry the hair and flat iron it. The fumes are strong and burn your eyes. Also, you will need a second mirror to see the back of your heat to ensure you are taking the bend out of the hair there (cow licks) appropriately and uniformly around that part of your head. This is very important because you do not want some of your hair flat and other parts wavy when this dries. Flat iron in the direction that you normally style and give yourself a little gentle curve where you think you normally like so it's not sticking straight at the ends. I did not flat iron the top of my hair as many times as I did the back because I have less hair there and I did want to leave some body on the top. Leave the product in once you're done. I left it in about two hours before washing because I was going out that night. I think next time I use this I will leave it on a lot longer. They recommend at least three hours or even overnight. Nice results. Not stick straight but not wavy. It's been about a month since I used it and my hair is still manageable, noticeably flatter, but there is a bit of body too. It dries much quicker too and even though I still have to flat iron a bit, it's not at the higher temperature setting. I find that 360 degrees does the trick where before it was at 400 degrees. Not good to do that high ever. I would say this product worked very well for me. It's not as strong as the Brazilian Blowout but I also don't feel that it was not effective. It was effective, and it only cost a fraction of what the Brazilian Blowout costs me. I would buy this again.

Terrible product
Never but this product, it smells like hell, and certainly has strong chemical good enough to cause cancer or other issues. I couldn't keep this product on my scalp for more than 2 hours and its been 2 months now, that I have lost half of my hairs. I never had a hair loss problem, prior to using this product. Absolutely, bad choice and terrible product for hair.

game changer
I just did this treatment a few days ago and washed it out last night. I can't say how good this product is long term because this is my first time using it but I am soooo happy with how it worked. It is crazy how straight it made my hair!! There is still a bit of wave but it changed my hair soooo much. For the better! It is so cheap for how much you get as well. I think I could get two or more treatments out of it and I will continue to be buying to (forever maybe). My hair is 1000 times more manageable. I totally recommend this to anyone else who has curly frizzy hair that wants it more manageable too. When you are blow dryer your hair with the product in it, it is really hard to breathe and will burn your eyes and throat at points. That sucks. But for me, it was worth it!
