Crucial Technology 16GB kit (8GBx2), 204-pin SODIMM, DDR3 PC3-10600,

I got this to upgrade my late 2011 15" MBP (2.2g i7). I originally had 4GB, but it wasn't enough when I'm working on a lot of things have multiple Chrome tabs open, Word, Acrobat Pro, Photoshop, Illustrator, Spotify, and Evernote occasionally. I still had Mountain Lion and wanted to upgrade to Mavericks. Plus, a friend gave me ProTools 10 since I wanted to experiment with recording and editing some music. So, I definitely could use a memory upgrade... Apple said that that my machine can only only be upgraded up to 8GB, until I read from others that a 16GB works. Then I went to the Crucial site, ran their memory advisor, and this kit came up on top of the result. Before purchasing, I've read some opinions that the difference between a 16GB and an 8GB is hardly noticeable. However, since I plan on eventually replacing my HD with a SSD, and just for about $60 more, I just went for this 16GB kit. Much cheaper and less hassle in the long run if you plan on upgrading to 16GB later. I don't know about you, but I prefer to have same size ram for each of the slots, which is also recommended anyway... And did I mention it was SUPER easy to install? Just follow the instructions on the Apple site and make sure everything's properly inserted as there's kind of a trick to it (you'll hear a click/snap that tells you it's in). I guess my only advice is to be gentle from when you open the case to removing the old memory, especially on the first time. There are times when it feels like something won't budge. Instead of going full force, just gradually increase pressure and you might have to wiggle some stuff a bit. It also helps to have the right tools, especially if you don't want to void your warranty... So, with the 16GB memory and a clean install of OS X Mavericks, my MBP runs 3/4 times faster. Adobe CS apps load within 3 seconds and there's no lag when switching in between apps. I've had the memory kit installed for about 3 months now, and I never had any problems, nor have my machine get really loud (and sometimes hot) when running intensive applications. I'm a happy panda so far!

Jumping from the factory original skimpy 4GB of RAM memory all the way up to 32GB of memory with two of these 2X8GB Crucial memory kits was incredibly beneficial for my 27" mid-2011 iMac which I use many hours each and every day and rely upon for both work and fun. I did the upgrade several weeks ago and have never looked back. Now, I have no more pinwheels or spinning beach balls. No more cherry red moving blocks in the "memory" section of Activity Monitor -- just a skinny green line near the bottom of the box. No more buffering for videos. No more nagging error messages with browsers. No more required "force quit" actions. No more unwanted restarts. No more waiting and waiting and waiting for files to load. No more sluggish Time Machine backups. No more annoying crashes or freezes. I can (and do) use two different memory-hungry browsers at the same time with more than 20+ tabs open in each one with absolutely no diminution in performance and huge chunks of memory available to spare. And opening three or four other memory-heavy programs at the same time the browsers are open makes no difference at all to the operation of the iMac. This was an easy fix and an easy task to complete for someone who is usually not comfortable doing these kinds of things with electronic devices. The process takes about five minutes and is carefully explained in full detail in manufacturer's pages and in helpful YouTube videos available everywhere. Everything worked exactly as prescribed without any glitches or unexpected problems. So, again, "do it now" if you are having problems with your computer and have only the minimum memory supplied by the manufacturer. That's not enough for today's programs, apps and operating systems, and this fix really works.

I was initially going to spend about $20 less and purchase the 16 GB RAM offered by Corsair; but I decided to pony up the extra cash and go for Crucial based on their reputation. I understand that Corsair has a good reputation, as well; but I decided to give Crucial RAM a try this time. I upgraded from 8 GB of Corsair RAM that I've had in this machine for almost two years now. The results? Well, it's only been a couple of hours, but they're pretty much what you'd expect when going from 8 GB to 16 GB of RAM. Upon booting up my laptop, I immediately went to "About This Mac" and saw that this Crucial RAM correctly registered in my early-2011 MacBook Pro as 16 GB of DDR3 running at 1333 MHz. I upped the RAM allocated to my Windows 7 x64 virtual machine running in VMware Fusion from 4 GB to 8 GB. The Mac side of things didn't hesitate at all after I powered on the Windows 7 VM with 8 GB of RAM. I also simultaneously booted a Windows XP virtual machine that has 3 GB of RAM allocated to it and both VMs and OS X ran well together. I used to see the spinning beach ball when I'd right-click on the desktop to create a new folder in OS X or when I'd launch iTunes. Like I said, it's a little early in my testing; but so far, the only spinning beach ball I've seen so far was when I launched VMware Fusion for the first time after installing the new RAM. My applications in OS X are launching more quickly, and of course I'm able to keep more applications running simultaneously now without slowing down the system. I think this was a great purchase. Maybe once the prices come down some more, I'll consider putting an SSD in to speed up my system even more. Until then, I'm very pleased with the results after upgrading from 8 GB to 16 GB of RAM.

Recently my MacBook Pro 17" had an issue with the Processor that caused the video card to burn out. It seems that Apple had a known issue with the Radeon Chips causing problems and they fixed it for me at no charge. However, they did do a DX check in the repair shop and it seems that one or two of my RAM sticks were having issues. AND - much to my dismay, they made the choice of replacing my 16gb of RAM with FOUR gb of RAM!!! The 'genius bar worker' even told me that they put in a new kind of RAM, and that my machine would be up and running like a new MacBook Pro. NOPE that was not the case! They replaced 16gb of 1333htz DDR3 RAM - with the EXACT specs of mine with only 4gb of the exact RAM but in a different non known brand name (I was told in the store that it was Apple Ram memory) there was no such thing in my machine. The choice that I now had for my slow as molasses machine was to order new NAME BRAND memory. And, Crucial is the ONLY name as far as we're concerned in our home. (the RAM that had a couple of sections blow out, that was in my machine was NOT crucial, it was also a generic brand that I got when I first started to upgrade my machine, and at that time, NO Crucial was available to me as there was a wait list, and they had no idea how long it would take. And in their defense, it did last for almost 4 years! But, Crucial is STILL our go to name brand RAM choice, and I am super pleased that they have dropped prices, and upped manufacturing to assure that there is no back ups for RAM needs. My MacBook Pro is up and running like a fantastic NEW machine out of the box - I know that I now have at least four or five years on my rebuilt machine - and that makes me a happy person for sure!

I just installed this 16 GB upgrade(up from the std 8MB)in my late 2011 MBP. So far, it seems to be working fine, but I did have a little difficulty installing it. Removing the existing memory was tricky, but once I figured out how to hold both plastic retaining clips back on each side(takes 2 hands), the modules popped out ok, and the new ones installed pretty easy too(I thought). My main issue happened when I screwed the back cover on and powered my MBP up. It didn't recognize the new memory... it continued to show the old (2) 4MG modules(8 MB total). Next, I shut down completely and when I powered it up again, this time, it showed no memory in slot 1 and the new 8GB memory in slot 2. to see if I had a bad module, I opened the computer back up and switched the position of the 2 new 8GB modules. Then whenI powered it back up, I was pleased it recognized both of the new 8GB modules. I supose I didn't get one of them fully installed the first time. The only thing I noticed was that you can't just snap the new modules down into the slot where they go, but you need to push the modules further toward the connector pins to make sure they're in all the way

Hi , 13" MBP early 2011 . Just received this yesterday and installed them . I have so much extra memory to use ( great ) . Installation was easy , And my macbook pro recognized the memory right away w/no problem . It is working faster and better no lag time . When i contacted Crucial they said ( if the computer does not recognize the upgrade when you start your computer wait then when your computer starts wait until you here a chime then press , command + option + p + r , All 4 At the same time . Then when you hear the 2nd chime let the keys go and the computer should recognize the upgraded new memory ) . Check w/them just to be sure . I had no such problem it recognized it right away . And when i open iPhoto i used to have to wait for the pic to upload no more their there . I went from 4gb to 16gb of memory and now i have on the average 75% of the 16gb memory available . I'll keep you informed . Thanks. I now have 6 tabs open and i'm at 61% memory available on ( 16gb ) , I could have never done that w/just 4gb of memory . Keeping you informed . Thanks . ( 8-6-16 ) Still no problem i have noticed that the more memory that you have , The more that your app's and other things try to use the memory . That's why i went with 16gb over 8gb upgrade , I'm glad i did ( 8gb upgrade $45 - 16gb upgrade $60 , $15 more for twice the memory . In my option a no brainer . ) Thanks .

I am a music producer, and recently started to work on a project where I have to sync and edit music with video (post-production). I have a mid 2011 iMac that came with 4GB of factory RAM, and it has been working perfectly trough these years. The problem raised when I had to load video sessions on Pro Tools 12, because it says 8GB minimum requirements for video. Still, my iMac handled the sessions, but I got constant problems when I tried to add plugins or even import the video files (and don't get me started with the final export). So I decided to upgrade the RAM. I got this kit, I installed the RAM in approximately 10 minutes and now I have a whooping 20GB of RAM. Now, every video session runs like a dream, and I can put as many plugins as I want. I've been checking the Activity Monitor constantly and the kernel keeps a lot of ram in use, so now I understand why I had RAM problems before. (And that Avid Application manager is a RAM hoarder too, poor design there from AVID). But now I have only 7GB used constantly, and have free RAM whenever I need to load a session, even if I have a whole orchestra of AAX, plugins galore and everything I can ever need. Overall, they work perfectly and have improved my workflow in a major way. Would absolutely recommend this upgrade to any iMac owner, specially when it is this cheap compared to a factory RAM upgrade and the installation process is so straightforward.

I began taking computer classes at my local community college, and I was suddenly faced with downloading huge programs and running them simultaneously on my 2011 Macbook. Yes, my early model 2011 laptop that is nearly 9 years old at this point. Needless to say that it was running SLOW. Even before downloading and running these new programs my laptop was crawling along. I was frustrated and very seriously considering purchasing a brand new Macbook for upwards of $2000. But my professor suggested simply replacing the RAM in my old computer. I never, ever thought that such an easy and simple solution would breath new life into my laptop, but I can honestly say that my laptop runs like brand new! I was incredibly nervous to open up my macbook, but installing the RAM was so easy and simple. I did a LOT of research before purchasing my RAM, and I found that Crucial was a highly recommended brand. While Apple is an American company, most of the parts that make up their computers are foreign made, so don't be too worried that your RAM is made in China - they all are. I replaced the RAM over 2 months ago, and my computer has had absolutely no issues since. It runs as well, if not better, than a brand new Macbook - I believe that brand new 2017 Macbooks only have 8GB of RAM, so my old lady actually runs faster. I can now run tons of programs at once with no issues whatsoever. I cannot recommend this RAM enough!

Upgraded my late 2011 15" MBP from 8GB to this 16GB RAM (together with an internal upgrade to SSD), and it's working well. RAM was easy to remove and easy to install — just have to get the angle right when slotting it in.

Update voor 11 jaar oude laptop. Werkt perfect streamen gaat sneller buffers zijn groter.

Compré esta memoria para llevar mi Macbook Pro de 15" Early 2011 de 4GB a 16 GB. La memoria es 100% compatible (a pesar de que Apple dice que ese modelo sólo acepta 8GB) y funciona perfectamente, se instalan de forma muy sencilla en los dos slots de memoria. Por supuesto ponerle toda esta memoria a la máquina la hizo más rápida y le agregó unos años más de vida, la diferencia en velocidad y desempeño es enorme. El único pero es que el precio en Amazon México es sensiblemente más alto que en Amazon USA, terminé comprándola en Mëxico por la premura de tenerla.

Our MacBook Pro 13" Late 2011 and 15" Early 2011 are more responsive than ever before... even with all our apps open at the same time. This is a really good upgrade.
