good read
I really got a lot out of this book. Liz is well researched, well intentioned and writes in a way that makes it easily digestible and enjoyable. As a man on his own healing journey, Liz left me with a lot to think about. It’s a difficult subject to cover and I applaud Liz for her efforts.

Enjoy the deep dive!
I’m enjoying the deep dive into how, as a society, we aren’t supporting men! Great read for anyone

Great for all genders
If you’re someone that can’t stand toxic masculinity, or a person that doesn’t even agree that masculinity can be toxic, or you’re somewhere in between this is a great book for you. Liz Plank offers a nuanced and insightful look at how the rigid gender roles in society are affecting men and why gender equality benefits everyone.

If you are new to this subject read
This is a great start to the conversation but there were too many places where I was wanting more information. Having worked in social justice for the last four (4) years I can say that this is part of the conversation society is missing.

Easier said than done
That this book was recommended to my book club by the one non-educator (dentist) in our group is, to me, remarkable. I had so many revelations in relation to my profession (helping raise young men - elementary teacher) and to my relationship with my husband. Definitely worth the time to read and written in plain, relatable language.

Amazing
This book was mandatory to have in my sex and gender class taught at my community college. At first I was a bit skeptical because of the name but there’s much more than the cover to this book. I taught me many things and explained how sex and gender competes in every day society without you even knowing. I would definitely say that I enjoyed this book to its fullest!

Insightful, empathic, well-researched
A fantastic book on "the other side of gender equality" - how patriarchy and rigid gender norms impact men in myriad ways, and what true equality means for them. Liz Plank writes with humor, warmth, and plenty of data about men's relation with health, work, love, and success in life, intertwining research-heavy chapters with short personal stories of men "outside the norm" (e.g. men with a disability, men of color, trans men, gay football players). Thus, she creates a multifaceted spectrum of perspectives on top of the research base, making a compelling case for men's right to be, in essence, fully human. This book is for anyone who ever wondered (or had to argue the case about) how feminism and gender equity liberate everyone, and what real freedom and self-determination look like.

This book is for everyone
I tell everyone (male or female) to read this book. I've actually read the book and I had an open dialogue with my partner after each chapter to get his take on topics in the book. To clarify, nothing in this book says women are great and men aren't. These reviews clearly have not read the book because the there are no sides in this book. Each chapter is kicked off with a man's story and it should be noted that not only is research a huge foundation in this book but real life stories from the male perspective are as well. This book shows how we can all create a safe space for men to define their own version of mindful masculinity by better understanding learned toxic culture, habits, and verbiage. I boil this down to one simple idea - Women are taught their needs don't matter and men are taught they don't have any. I know I'm walking away having learned a lot.

Obsessed with this book
Liz Plank's focus on masculinity is the most proactive form of feminism. An exceptionally well researched and written book. Would encourage all men and women to read it
