When Oliver Speaks

"When Oliver Speaks" is an adorable, heartwarming story with a positive message about self acceptance and pride. From the very beginning of the story, kids can see themselves in Oliver, a regular kid who does regular kid things. Surely every child has felt insecure about themselves for some reason, and can relate to Oliver's attempts at hiding what he's ashamed of. Whether it be speech, looks, clothes, reading, math, height, or weight, everyone has wanted to hide at some point. The lesson we learn from Oliver's mother is relevant to all readers, and the joy I felt when Oliver accepted his stutter brought tears to my eyes. This is a wonderful, positive, and real story that should be shared!!

Delightful story of a boy who stutters.My father was a man who stuttered. As a child growing up, I didn't know he was different until one day I witnessed a group of children laughing at him. I now know why he was considered a "quiet man"."When Oliver Speaks" is a lovely story of acceptance and support. The authors created an engaging and endearing character in Oliver who learns to accept the way he speaks without shame or embarrassment.This book should be on the shelves of every elementary school library.

This is the perfect book for children to learn what's special about them. Children can see their differences and embrace them; something most children have difficulty with. Oliver is the perfect character for children to relate to and he remains truly inspirational.My sister (also 7 years old) found a connection with Oliver and even wanted to know how his speech turned out. She said "that's it? What happens next? Why do all the good books end at the good parts?!" If she felt this way, I'm sure other children will as well 👍🏾

"When Oliver Speaks" is a true story that informs readers about a disability that is not often talked about let alone put into words and published for society to read about. The story depicts a normal kid who others with this disability can relate to as themselves. The read portrays a kid who excels in most things that he does except for when he speaks. Oliver tries to mask this disability from society. This is a true story about a young man who is normal in every other facet of life except for when he speaks!! I am sure there are millions of people in the world from the very young to the elderly that have been dealing with Oliver's situation for many years. Oliver's mom has done a great job in telling his story to the world which will hopefully inspire others who walk the same path as Oliver in this life's journey. I highly recommend buying this book and recommend it to others that are in the same situation. I salute Oliver and his mom for wanting to share their story with the world.

The ending was abrupt and we were expecting more but overall still a good book!

I'm an elementary school speech therapist and I bought this book to read with my students. My students loved this one and all found something they had in common with Oliver. Even a student who denies he stutters loved the book. It was great to have a way to talk about stuttering that didn't feel personal to my student.

This is THE story. Everything from the message to the illustrations. Finally a story that depicts real people with real circumstances. As an adult, I learned so much about others and myself, so I can only imagine what my children will take away from the story as well. This story can be used to inspire yourself and others of nothing but greatness!
