Disappointing
Takes a long time to reach temperature and barely melts solder. The torch bit takes about 45-60 seconds to start shrinking the heat shrink tube. Wish I could return and get a refund

Best in the business
I have been using this model for 30 years. I wear them out about every 4 or 5 years, so I have bought quite a few. They never disappoint and work better than any other butane or electric unit I have tried, period. The one stipulation that is necessary to keep them working properly is do not use any other butane but the Master Appliance brand. Theirs is ultra filtered and it makes a difference in reliability. I know this because a used an over the counter brand and it didn't take long for the unit to start having problems.

The best for us
We bought this so we could solder the wires for our low voltage landscape lights without having to drag an extension cord along. We have a lot of modifications we are doing to our outdoor lighting. The battery operated one I had was just not strong enough to even heat up the heavy gage wire, not to mention the corrosion on the old wire in the ground was a big hinderance. We used a solder torch for a short while but they are so freaky hot and hard to use without accidently burning the wire coating or the area around where your working. We had reservations (due to the high price) but took a chance and bought this one. It is a great solder iron. We don't even bother with any other soldering irons we have and we have a variety. Read and follow the instructions and it will always work. I have read reviews where people have trouble and it almost always sounds like they didn't fully read the instuctions for lighting and using this iron. So easy and so hot when you need it. We swear by it and would advise even people who don't need a wirerless solder iron. If you buy it you will find yourself grabbing it instead of the plug in one, no matter what the job.

Great tool for the mobile tech.
This tool has been great so far, I've used both the soldering and heat gun function both a handful of times and am impressed with both. Tip heats up super fast and and seems to be quality made, the tools it's self is of great quality. The tool is a little bulky compared to my electrical soldering wand (metcal) but it's not too much heavier either. The heat gun sheild does seem a little weird when trying to attach it to the heating tip, it falls off but I really wouldn't use it anyway but it woul be nice if it were a better fit. Another thing they could improve on is the case, maybe make it slightly bigger and have multiple holding slots for additional tips that people will eventually buy. The additional tips is another reason I chose this over the other brands, just so many options! I really appreciate that.

Made with qulity materials
I have been soldering for 40 yrs, from electric soldering stations in bench work, to butane iron soldering in the field. My 30 yr old Portasol broke. I looked at Portasol and Weller to replace it, but found some disturbing reviews. After reading reviews I decided on this iron. It is a real quality piece of merchandise. Very easy to fill with fuel, easy to light , easy to change tips. The controls for turning iron on/off and regulating gas are precision made. Heats up from cold to soldering in about 30 seconds. I was repairing a wiring harness and turned iron on/off about 10 times, no problem restarting. used iron for about an hour full open gas and had about 1/3 left in tank. Tank viewing window is very easy to check fuel amount .The only and I mean the only thing I can say negative is the case is extremely hard to open and close .If you solder for a living, give this iron a try, I think you'll like it.

Very happy customer
I had one of these over 20 years ago when i was 18 and i broke it a few days after i got it because i didnt know how to light it and didnt read the instructions so i took it apart.... i seriously have wished i didnt for the past 20 years and finally found out what it was called and bought it a month ago... Wicked Awesome soldering iron for electronics. I use it daily building custom racing quadcopters along with my hobby microcontrolled led lighting effects. It runs about an hour on a fillup, i use it on the lowest setting and fine solder for through hole components. Heats up in like 15 seconds, it says 30, but its 15... i dont even touch my corded soldering station ive used for 20 years anymore. Takes a while to cool down and ive never put the top back on while it was still hot so i dont know what would happen, the top would probably get pretty warm I'd bet. Super happy and its worth the cost.

Very well made tool - Wish I had read "Flameless" before I bought it
This tool has the feel of a solid, well made tool. I am sure it is perfect for electronics. I will keep it for that reason.I bought it for my girlfriend, who is learning to make and repair jewelry. Sadly, it is not a torch. The catalytic element is always part of the flow and It puts out heated air, not a torch flame.Perfect for heating tubing and soldering. Not so useful for jewelry....

Easy and Portable
I had a job that was no where near power I bought this product because of the portability. It was perfect and it worked flawlessly. It is better than my electric soldering iron so I am now using this for all of my needs. I would recommend this product to anyone who does a lot of soldering in places far from power. It was a bit pricey in my opinion, but I have a friend who has had one for two years and uses it regularly. It has survived even with a full tank of butane at all times. That would usually ruin the seals of most products.
