Great for butchering/dressing large animals. Glad there's two!
I'm a homestead type who butchers a half-dozen large animals a year - pigs, goats, sheep and deer. Usually by the end of the day I've got a nice collection of micro cuts all over the fingers of my left hand. I just finished butchering my first deer with these gloves and they did the job - not a single cut. I discovered a nice bonus, too: the gloves give you a great grip for yanking on the hide of the animal. As other reviewers have said, they can collect blood and bits of meat over time, in which case they get pretty slick. You can rinse them under the sink and get a lot of that off, as long as you don't mind wearing wet gloves afterwords. I can work faster and with more confidence knowing one small slip won't matter. For $12 and change that's less than I would be spending on bandaids, vinyl gloves and antibiotic cream for all those small cuts. Also, though the image doesn't make it clear, these are not a pair of L/R gloves; both gloves are exactly the same, so I can use the second glove as a replacement when the first glove gets too slick. The large fit my hands (about 8" from wrist to tip of middle finger) perfectly, and I never got that glove annoyance where I was frustrated that they were in the way. I'm ordering a second pair. Mine went into the laundry pile after the job was done, where the family dog sniffed them out. While they are slash proof, they definitely are not chew proof, so I need to replace them.

Saved my fingers many times!
I have cut my fingers with kitchen knives so many times, the last time I had to go to the ER. So I bought these gloves. They are great! I use them daily with knives or mandoline and all my digits are still intact. I have felt the glove on the blade of my mandoline and I don't see any cut in the fabric of the glove. (The ove-glove I was using got cut up and frayed) They are really nice for use when cutting bagels! I have large hands (I wear a women's large glove or a men's small to medium) and the medium size fits me well, but I don't think a larger size would be too big. I have machine washed them and air-dried and they still seem to be holding up well. The nice thing about having two gloves is that you can use them both if you need to, or have one to use while washing one. The second glove is slippery on a knife handle, though - careful! Update 2/10/2012: I am still using these and haven't had another cut finger (and believe me, it was a common occurrence around here!) They have been through the washer AND dryer about once a week (the washer on the "sanitizing" cycle - where the water gets to like 300 degrees) (just exaggerating a little there) and the gloves look as good as new, aren't falling apart, and still protect my hands.

These gloves work well
I like these gloves. They are light, they breathe well, they grip well and most important, they do a nice job of protecting my fingers as I slice vegetables with the slicer I reviewed yesterday. These are MUST have, MUST use for the vegetable slicers which are very sharp and will easily take off the tip of your finger unless you wear these gloves. Even though the gloves themselves have been hit with the slicing blade, my fingers so far have been fine. The gloves wash well. The only negative comment I would have is they tend to be a wee bit tight for a large size glove. However, having said that, I find them very comfortable and easy to wear. Another great use for these gloves is for fishermen/women when cleaning fish. They grip the slippery fish well, and will do a great job protecting your hands if you fa-lay (sp?) fish. These would make a great belated father's day or birthday gift for anyone that fishes and cleans their own fish. The gloves also wash well, although I have only tried washing them by hand, not yet into the washing machine as I did not want to get a fish smell into the washer. :-) Hope this was helpful. Tom W.

They get the job done but would be amazing if they were dishwasher safe.
I received a pair of these gloves for free, to provide my honest review. I was actually excited to receive these gloves because my wife accidentally cut her finger on a cheese grater a couple of years ago and since then, it's been my job to grate blocks of cheese. I ordered their largest size which actually ended up being a bit tight for me but I probably won't be the one to use them so it's not a big deal. The gloves came in a plastic bag within an envelope. They're made with a tough fibrous material somewhat resembling steel wool but you can feel through them and they don't irritate your skin. I took a knife to my hand while wearing the gloves and didn't feel any pain. I wasn't trying to cut my hand off or anything but I wanted to see if I could cut the gloves themselves. I took the gloves off for my second test which was trying to puncture the gloves with a knife. What I found was the tip of the knife wouldn't go through the gloves -- even though I was putting a good amount of pressure into it. I'd imagine that the gloves wouldn't shield you from pain, but they'd keep the blade from entering your skin. As far as using the gloves with food, I'm happy to see they're machine washable. But at the same time, it would be even better if they were dishwasher safe. Putting them in with laundry is sort of a big deal since people don't generally do a load of dish towels every day. With them being used and not specifically stated as being safe to wash in the dishwasher, I'd recommend using them with foods that won't get the gloves too "saturated", if you will. Another great use of the gloves is when cutting very spicy peppers -- keeps you from getting the pepper juice on your fingers -- which inevitably makes its way to eyes.

These gloves are AMAZING, and definitely a necessity if you are using a mandonline slicer!
I ordered these right along with my new mandonline slicer (which I LOVE and also wrote a review for): http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002DTDMY2/ and I am SOOoo glad I did! The safety-holder that comes with this mandoline is excellent, but there are definitely times when I need to cut things that I have to hold in my hand (such as multiple celery or carrots, which the food-holder really can't hold adequately). When I hold these things in my fist, I'm absolutely positive that I would slice the bottom side of my hand right off (remember I'm holding the pieces in my fist, not fingers). Before I used these, I literally TRIED to cut them on the mandoline blades, and wasn't able to, with normal speed and pressure. (I'm sure if I tried REALLY hard, I'd be able to cut them, but I only needed to make sure that they wouldn't get sliced through with normal mandoline speed/pressure/use, so I didn't push super hard or saw them back-and-forth, which may have eventually cut through them). I was very surprised at how flexible and well-fitting they are - they really don't feel much different than a normal pair of light-to-medium-weight knit gloves. I have a medium-sized female hand with slightly shorter-than-average fingers, and the medium gloves are perfect for me. Just a tiny bit of extra space at the finger-tips, but it's easy to pull them down snug. And they do not limit my finger motion nor dexterity one bit - I honestly didn't expect that! I thought they would feel stiff and confining, but they do not, at all. They are super-easy to clean after using - I simply wash them in the soapy dish-water that I wash the mandoline in, and then rinse and squeeze the extra water out, and hang over a towel-bar to dry. You can also throw them in your regular washing machine, but do NOT put them in the dryer! (I read that on the package). They don't take long to dry anyway, being a somewhat loose knit. If you have something like soft cheese that gets pushed into the gloves, just use a small scrub-brush on them, gently scrubbing in little circles - that worked well for me. I will NEVER be using my mandoline without these gloves - I love my fingers just the way they are and can't afford to lose any fingertips as they're short enough already! LOL! (and I'm a musician!) ;) Highly recommended!

Nice Protection for Beginning Wood Carving
I bought these gloves for wood carving/whittling with a pocket knife. From what I've seen, people who do this type of carving don't normally use gloves but I wanted to be on the safe side. I researched a few different cut resistant gloves before deciding on these and so far I've not been disappointed. Since getting them I've had a few slip-ups and nothing has punctured the gloves or made contact with my skin. I'm petite so I would have preferred a size Small, but the Medium fits okay. I looked at protective work gloves at a few hardware stores as well but they only carried size Large... I wish the gloves had a bit more grip to them. My knife has a smooth handle, so when I wear these gloves it sometimes slips around... Originally I was just going to wear one glove to protect the hand that holds the piece I'm carving, but I found that it's nice to have both gloves on to keep my fingers from getting blistered from applying pressure to the knife. Overall I'd definitely recommend them if you're starting out in wood carving and are worried about slicing up your hands. Even if you end up not carving much it seems like they would have lots of other uses for protecting your hands as well... I wouldn't use them with any kind of power carving tools though because they would probably shred on contact.

Wonderful-but size matters!
I am a home cook. Every meal- and cut up poultry, large fish, and full bone lamb and other cuts of meat on a weekly basis., as well a vegs as soft as tomatoes or a dense as large acorn squash . I am "thin-skinned" ,bleed easily, and even peeling potatoes from my youth 60 years ago was "a bloody mess". 12 years ago I started using the CutShield gloves. I sold my stock in Band-Aid/Johnson&Johnsons corporation (>sarc alert <).To the point- these cutshield gloves are fantastic- quality/durability, and fufills its stated purpose. HOWEVER- you need to know that these are essentially fabric gloves. IF you are chopping up splatchoking chickens, boning beef/lamb/pork shoulders- these gloves REQUIRE an over-covering glove. Whether you want heavy gloves that decrease your "hand-feel", nitrile gloves, or the methods of covering "armored gloves", you need to realize - you are dealing with "finger safety" as well as NOT allowing porous gloves to cross-contaminate everything. I just love to cook... I have been cooking about 8 years after I was born in 1953.

This product gave me a THAC0 of 19 (slashing damage)
These +4 Gloves of Blade Resistance virtually negate the hitpoint drain associated with mandoline, julienne, and benriner weapons. While they offer little piercing or crushing resistance (I did manage to inflict a Bleeding condition on myself during a Catastrophic Failure with my Knife of Paring), they lack the Dex and spellcasting penalties of sturdier armor, and are invaluable to characters wishing to avoid the level-hungry Knife Skills feat line. I have a measly two feats in Knife Skills and, with this product, easily survived a high-level julienne encounter with multiple enemies including daikon radishes, three different elemental alignments of bell pepper (red, orange, and yellow), and a dire carrot. The BladeX5 armor piece is less suited for halflings, wood elves, and other smaller characters, since they come in one size only and cannot be altered without an extremely high rating in Light Armor Repair. The pinky tip flaps around a bit. Also please note that these gloves are not water resistant and, while taking no rust damage from natural sources (have not tested them against rust monsters or disenchanters), they may acquire a Waterlogged debuff during extended use with juicy or recently-washed enemies. This debuff may be removed by wringing the gloves in a dry towel, though this requires the character to unequip for one round of combat (I suggest using this round for heals and other buffs as mandoline warfare is notoriously tricky and the Bleeding condition WILL persist after the gloves are re-equipped).

Happy with those Protective Gloves
I'm still careful while cutting up veggies, but feel much more confident with those gloves. So far so good. They fit well and seem robust.
