works well
Purchased this pump after Sandy to replace a damaged pump in my sister's house in Long Beach, NY. Float switch is adjustable. I made and installed a bracket to prevent the whole pump from twisting slightly when it started. Pump is in a salty environment and so far ( 4 months) has been resisting corrosion. The house is a about a 100 yards from the ocean. Fairly quiet, my sister says she does not hear it come on. Consider using a backflow preventer valve if your lifting the water more than a few feet. Check your local plumbing code. The backflow valve will help stop rapid cycling of the pump when water drains back into the pit from the discharge pipe. Drill a 1/8 inch vent hole on a 45 degree angle down as recommended 3-4 inches over the base of the pump in the discharge pvc pipe (you provide) to prevent air locks. This is often overlooked and if not done can cause premature failure of the pump and the pump from not pumping because it is air locked, that is air that gets trapped around the pump vanes . Yes, some water will discharge back into the pit from the vent hole but a negligible amount. Use a dedicated GFI electrical outlet and/or breaker. The install I did has the pump lifting the water 4 foot up vertical and 20 foot horizontal out to the front yard of the house using pvc pipe.

this thing is a fockin trooper bud..
my basement floods periodically... thing this was under water ( def not meant to be submerged.) for over 4 hours on one occasion and never quit pumping..second time it flooded same deal. except i caught it quick. and got my other pump going to help.but it still had water spewing from every orfice on this thing and still pumped over 1k gallons of water and kept right on goin.. the only reason i ordered a new one is because its starting to get loud and annoying.but i want you all to know.. it still works perfectly fine.if yall need a pump that take a severe beating and keeps on ticking ... this thing is for you.

Amazing pump, amazing price
Update: This pump has now been in use for almost 2 years and still runs just as strong and just as well as the day it came out of the box. So far so good and still highly recommend it!I chose this pump because I had done quite a bit of research on various sump pumps. I had been looking at the big box department stores and came to find that their brands are simply re-brands of others that aren't made of quite the quality that this pump is. Furthermore, after reading the reviews of this pump I had to buy it. Putting it together takes just a couple of minutes and of course installing the pipe out of it is pretty easy as well. When running this pump is rather quiet. I am comparing that to the pump that my parents have that is at least 20 years old. This pump will pump a ton of water and fast! Like I said, runs quiet as well. Amazing item at an amazing price!

Good sump pump!
We purchased this as a back-up to have available if necessary. We have one that we are using currently that we are very happy with.

Poor materials, poor construction
Purchased as a backup several months ago, the primary pump failed a couple weeks ago & this one was installed. At first the pump vibrated loudly, but water flowed. Fair enough--if it gets the job done then fine. After about a week, the pump spins and nothing happens. Replaced it today with yet another ped pump & put this one on the bench to see what's up.1. Main shaft is visibly warped.2. Main shaft was installed backwards; this is why it stopped:Both the motor and the impeller have flats on their respective shafts, which engage with flats on the main. The impeller shaft only protrudes a couple inches and half past the bushing in the volute and the motor shaft has a good 3-4" exposed. The main shaft has flats installed, on one end the flat starts at the end; on the other end the flat starts about an inch and a half in.So, as shipped the main shaft has the wrong end towards the impeller and it slips. After taking it apart, it's fairly easy to hold the impeller steady while in its volute & turn the main shaft with the other hand. slipslipslip....Flip the main shaft over & reassemble it engages robustly on both ends.3. Float retainer is lightweight stamped steel. Other pumps use plastic; this will rust quickly in a humid environment.

Just the right pump!
I needed a pedestal pump to empty my sump about once every day or so. This was the ideal pump; easy to install and does the job perfectly. Only time will tell its reliability and lifespan. I plan on "testing" it once a month to make sure it does not seize up due to sitting without use (should that ever occur). I am totally satisfied with this purchase.
