A classic!
Jules Verne's "The Mysterious Island" is widely regarded as his masterpiece, and I wholeheartedly agree. Although written in French in the 1800s and later translated into English, the book's classical language pattern adds to its charm and distinction. The novel's intricate details, from the scientific names of the wildlife to the mysterious events on the island, require readers to pay close attention. The plot follows four men, a boy, and a dog who escape Richmond during the Civil War's final months in a hot-air balloon. Caught in a nor'easter, they drift to a deserted island in the south Pacific that is absent from all maps, and find themselves stranded with almost no resources. Strange occurrences begin to unfold. The castaways use their ingenuity to construct all the necessary items, from smelting iron to making pottery. Although the creation of a 35-foot sailing vessel is theoretically plausible, the manufacturing of nitroglycerin and gunpowder in the book does stretch believability. Nonetheless, Verne provides detailed procedures and chemical formulas, adding to the novel's sense of realism. As with any science fiction book, accepting the descriptions at face value adds to the enjoyment of the story. As an engineer, I found the technical descriptions particularly fascinating. The conclusion of the book holds a satisfying surprise. I highly recommend this novel to all readers.

Great story, I needed a break from modern “literature”
Wonderfull characters, all of them, the two legged and four legged kind. Loved this beautiful story. Book quality is top notch. (Paper quality, cover, illustrations etc...) Ever read a book, and when finished, you didn’t want to start another book right away because you savored the memory of what you just read and didn’t want to dilute that memory? This is one of those books.......

The best copy of a great book
A phenomenal book if you haven't read it - probably Verne's best, and that's saying a lot. You'll find many editions of it, but from what I can tell, this one is the best. The best translation, and it has all of the illustrations. Only critique is that it is physically large, but what can I say? It's not a short book. A must have for all fans of Verne.Edit: For clarity, I refer to the SeaWolf Press 100th Anniversary Collection

I am a big Jules Verne fan so this was a must have book. The illustrations I wish that there we more, The Print is very nice, the size makes the book very easy to read. The book has 562 pages, divided into three parts. I Took me a few weeks to read, but it was worth it. You really cannot replace the feel of a good book.
