Satechi Desk Mat & Mate 24" x 14" Desk Pad & Protector Mouse Pad - Compatible with Desktops and Laptops (Black)

If you haven't previously used a desk pad, it sounds like an unnecessary luxury. Once you get one, you won't want to work on a desk without one. Makes it much easier to write, and (at least for me) seems to provide a deterrent to desk clutter.I've owned this particular product for nearly four years - purchased in January 2015. I'm a student who uses my desk daily for hours on end, so this thing has seen some abuse from food, coffee rings, heavy books, errant pen marks, etc. I have the black version on a white desk, and use it as a giant keyboard/mouse pad. I don't do anything special to care for it, beyond wiping my desk down every week with one of those disposable cleaning wipes.I have been pleasantly surprised with how well this desk mat has held up, especially for the price. If you didn't closely inspect it, you would have no idea that the pad wasn't brand new. I use my mouse on the right-hand side of this pad constantly, and there is absolutely no uneven wear or worn finish.I do have a few very small dimples on the left hand side, caused by a heavy stack of papers that had a staple in them. Entirely my fault - if not for this pad the staples would have probably dented or scratched my desk. You can see them in the photo attached to this review - they look far worse in the photo than they do in real life. You should also be careful of anything gritty or sharp getting underneath the pad, as it could cause scratches to the surface of your desk underneath. Again, not the fault of this product, but something to be aware of.In sum - great product. Very happy with how well it's held up, and the synthetic surface looks great and takes much more abuse than leather.

I was excited and this looked nice but it began to flake within the first year of owning it. I got another six months by flipping it around and using it upside down but with normal wear and tear while working from home it lasted around eight months before it started looking shabby.I switched to a mouse pad and have been hesitant to buy another desk mat since. If it's just there to lay the computer on not a bad purchase but I used it daily and the grind got to it pretty quick al things considered.

Let me start out by saying that this item is fantastic quality. I would have given it 5 stars based on that. It seems like it's very well built and will last a long time. However, I am giving it two starts for two main reasons.1) This item does not have any anti-slip material on the bottom. This causes it to side around my wood desk when using it! It takes barely any effort to move it around. I know that I can probably purchase very inexpensive anti-slip material for the bottom, but I have decided to return it for reason #22) I have a reclaimed wood desk, so the top surface is pretty rough. This causes writing on paper a little difficult. I purchased this item in hopes of utilizing it on my desk for when I needed to write. The surface seemed nice and smooth from the pictures and description. However, this item is somewhat soft and "squishy", and when you try to write on paper on this item, it cases the paper to have impressions on the other side. Now, I personally might have a heavy hand and press pretty hard, but even for those who write lightly would have this same issue.

I like the general look and feel of the Mat but have 2 concerns. The first is that it slides around and thus requires continual readjustment on the desk. The second is the Satechi logo is imprinted in white on the black mat. I don't think it promotes further sales of the product. A stamp on the back would provide the info to anyone who needed to know.

I likely should have left a review earlier, but I suppose it's good to have waited 8 months to give an opinion about it. I normally would have considered a mat like this unnecessary, but I bought an excellent white IKEA corner desk for $75. The finish is great, but the desk is also $75, so I knew it would not hold up to a lot of abuse. I was hesitant to drop this amount of cash on a simple desk mat, but I was lured by the good reviews. I can say now that they're completely justified. I primarily keep my keyboard and mouse on this, but I also do homework on it. It saves my desk from pencil marks and scratches. I also usually put a cup of tea on it too; it's very roomy. I've even (not so sensibly) put very hot cups of tea on it, and even though I'm convinced it will leave a ring on the mat later, I'll clean it and somehow find that it hasn't left a mark at all. The mat still looks fairly new after all this time, and the finish of my desk underneath is pristine.I haven't found that it slides around a lot, but my wood desk doesn't have a very slippery surface, and I'm not drawing on it; mainly just writing. I can't speak for how it'll do on a glass desk, for example. However, for your typical wood desk, it should be just fine. It has better grip than other cheap mats I've found. It also looks sleek and professional.Essentially, if you're concerned about ruining your desk, this mat will not be a disappointment. You can go with a cheap desk mat, but you will get quality with this one.

Excellent product great if you want a smaller desk mat just the right size

This desk mat was just what I was looking for. It looks really classy (even though I bought the pink one!) and protects my dining room table from any marks.

Absolutely love it. Colour is perfect; quality is excellent and size is brilliant - fits both laptop and mouse. Perfect finishing touch for my study!
